My family has trusted Poinsett Animal Hospital with our pets for over 30 years. Before the practice…read morewas renovated and the staff changed, the office was warm, gracious, compassionate, and genuinely caring. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience in recent years. On multiple visits, I encountered front desk staff who were dismissive and rude. Last fall, a veterinary technician cut my dog's nails so short that most of them bled. I lightly complained then but should've taken my complaint directly to Dr. Marshall. Soon afterward, my pup contracted a bacterial infection that ultimately led to her death. I have no idea if they were connected - but it apparently is possible -- and losing her was beyond devastating. She was a 5+ year rescue who had survived epilepsy, tick fever, allergy to spay stitches, flipped stomach, and several other random sicknesses as a puppy - after having been rescued from a compost pile in Costa Rica at two weeks old with her eyes still closed, weighing half a pound. Many months after her passing, I was finally ready to adopt another dog. Before applying through a rescue, I called Poinsett to confirm my records were complete and available for a veterinary reference. I was assured they were. Instead, the rescue was told there was no record of me or my dog and that my dog had never received rabies vaccinations or heartworm medication there. (!) When I went to the office to address the mistake, I was again met with a dismissive attitude from Lisa. Rather than helping resolve the issue, she interrupted a conversation I was having, made an unnecessary comment, and walked away. Mistakes happen. What has been most disappointing is the repeated lack of accountability, empathy, and professionalism. After more than 30 years as a client, it's heartbreaking to see how much this practice has changed. I want more for Dr. Marshall's legacy - and after her lengthy recovery - more confidence in the team's customer service skills.

I went in at 8a-11a under the pretense that I would be working and completing tasks the staff would normally do for compensation. When I got to the facility, the staff told me I would not be doing any work and would overall be observing. Even still, I tried to make myself useful and do things in order to feel like my time was well-spent. Despite me performing duties the staff would certainly do (cleaning the lobby, handling cats and dogs, and ushering animals to kennels and holders), I was denied the position, and the payment I should have received from the work I did. I was told that I hadn't done "any of the work they do" and that I "don't work for the county". All in all, I was lied to and my time was wasted during this "working interview". The staff was very unprofessional, and I would not recommend this job to anyone if you value honesty, integrity, and a workplace suitable for animal lovers. I cannot speak for the adoption side of things, however.

I had a very heartbreaking experience here... I was traveling through Greenville on a cross country…read moreroadtrip when I stumbled upon a beautiful dog running around on a very busy street in a commercial area. The dog was clearly a stray, it was dirty, malnourished, and was full of ticks. I managed to get the dog into my car and drove to Greenville County Animal Care for help. I was very rudely rejected by the staff there. They claimed they can't help me because they're full and can't take in any more dogs. I understand that but when I asked for them to advise me on what to do next they said they don't know and that I should probably just go knocking on doors to see if anyone has lost their dog... ARE YOU SERIOUS??? I tried to explain that I'm not from around here and was simply just passing through but the workers were very passive aggressive and rude. They offered no help and seemed very indifferent about the fate of the dog I found. I went back in my car and broke down because of how awful I felt after this interaction. It's concerning how people working at an "animal care" shelter and be heartless... I understand they are probably very full and busy but all I wanted was to be pointed in the right direction. I went out of my way to rescue an animal in need and just wanted some help. I'm VERY saddened about this situation.

Marlee hates grooming/baths like most cats. I already had her in a large carrier. Totally prepared my bathroom for grooming by 12:18 pm. I was blindsided when she said she was waiting on a delivery of fish and started suggesting alternative times she could come. She will never touch a hair on my cat(s) again. Beware: the lady is all about SELF, not customers.

I came across JJ's card at Bex coffee shop downtown and gave her a ring. Grooming delivered is absolutely worth the extra $10-15 bucks for Fitch to be comfortable and for my peace of mind for him to not potentially catch the dog flu or kennel cough that is popping up even though he is current on all of his vaccinations, including dog flu. This also saved me an hour worth of drive time to drop off and pick up! JJ was right on time, friendly, and great with Fitch. She asked me a few questions about what kind of hair cut we wanted and let me know all of the services that were included, then she set up shop and got right to it. Fitch liked her from the beginning and even let her pick him up. After grooming, JJ took a few minutes for play and treats... she understands and obliges the extra exhilaration after getting your hair done, lol. Check out our pics of a happy dog that just stepped out of the salon;) After referring JJ to my apartment community, I hope we have monthly grooming service opps for the building... how awesome would that be! Happy dog, happy mom!
