This was my second time playing paintball ever, and my first time playing outside. Let me tell you - IT. WAS. AWESOME! I had such an amazing time. I went with a group of about 8 friends. We all got the deal on Trubates and wound up paying like $29 for a full day of paintball in the woods. Actually, we all paid the $5 for the cheap camo jumpsuits they had there, and later on we bought a case of more paint because we wanted to keep playing. What I loved was that they had so many different scenario games. The fact that they had a ton of room and had different sets all over the place meant that every game was completely new and different. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The other people there were cool, even the people who are really into paintball were friendly and didn't get bothered when I asked random stupid questions (and later shot them). We had a gorgeous day for it, but there was a lot of mud to stomp around in, and expect your inner ninja/commando skills to surface because in this setting it's really not possible to suppress them. I wound up with more than a few bruises and scrapes, but I didn't even really notice them until I got home and was scrubbing the paint out of my hair (really wasn't difficult). Overall, an absolutely freakin' awesome time. I definitely recommend checking this place out. Grab a group of friends, bring them to the woods in Upton, and shoot them - a lot. - Actually that's not really accurate because they were team games and my group wound up being on the same team for every game except the last one....when they all shot me....a lot...but i still won the objective and won the game for my team, so it was worth it :) read more

The staff was friendly and professional. They stressed the importance of safety a lot of times. There are many wood fields with different objectives for the game to not be bored. There are two speedball fields that seemed fun but didn't get a chance to play. There is a food stand on the properties in case you get hungry if you didn't bring any. The shop has friendly staff. The owner of the place was frequently walking around and helping the refs out. Even he stressed safety. There are a lot of hard core players to find it intimidating but don't worry. The staff is very good at splitting the teams up with a mix of experienced and newbies on each team. If you have a large party, making it private would help reduce the fear of being pummeled by paintball. read more

A first-rate operation for players from the newbie to the pro. For those just trying out the game, there's a huge wooded area with forts and bunkers with a professional referees staffing the field and staging area. The games are fun and last twenty to thirty minutes. The play area varies during the day, so there are never any stalemates between teams, Friends arriving as a group are encouraged to "tape up" together. A very thorough orientation is given throughout the day to stress safety and fair play. Staff is VERY strict when it comes to safety! The markers themselves are safe when handled properly, and the refs keep a watchful eye on players both on and off the field. Games are decided by the staff and are of the "Capture the Flag" type with interesting variations. It's possible to play seven or eight different variations in the course of a six hour day, but that's quite a workout in the woods... I like to take a game off mid-day or so. The staging area is large, but mostly uncovered from the elements. A cheap pop-up would be a good idea for an outing to provide shade on a hot day. The staging are provides a great view of all the Speedball fields for Moms bringing the kids for a birthday gathering, and there is a shaded pavilion for those groups. Nice! Cold drinks, icecream, and sandwiches are available at a snack shop, and available all day. A short wait in line and you can rejoin the action in short order. This month three artificial turf netted speedball fields were completed for the three and five man events. Events are staged monthly and have attracted hundreds of players every season. Store on site offers cheap paint pricing and a good selection of markers and accessories. The store is open for information and bookings during the week, as well. This is the place to play competition speedball in upton. Having attended the summer camps and playing here as a kid, they were always known as a more snobby and higher end super competitive place to play. Which was fine by me since I love competitive paintball. The speedball courses here are top notch, the woods leaves something to be desired. Decent pro shop. read more

Best price for self equipped of any public paintball field in Massachusetts ($55 self equipped includes 1 case). Field paint is $60/case thereafter. The absolute best speedball field around. The woodsball courses are good, but nothing super special. The referees are friendly and helpful. The only deficit I found was that there are a LOT of really good players here which can make it a bit harder for a new player. read more

A great overall spot for paintball. A good variety of wooded and speed fields with many different features. The staff was professional and friendly. The marker I had kept jamming and had a problematic safety so I had a number of technical equipment issues. I do agree that there are plenty of skilled players so I probably wouldn't recommend open play for newbies. The cost for our larger group was $30 for rental, 2 hours of play and 500 paintballs. Just got back from my 11 year old son's birthday party here. Everything about this place was great! From dealing with Dave and Curt before the event to the employees they had once we arrived (the girl at the registration booth, they guy who got us our equipment and of course our referree). This was my first time and although I did not plan to play with the boys and the couple of male chaperones we had, after watching the first game I decided to gear up myself! Here's what made it so great: 1. We had a private group - absolutely the only way to do it with kids and newbies. 2. The weather was perfect - 48 degrees - allowed for extra layers for protection. 3. Our turf was the woods - way better than any "courts". There was a huge area for us to play - multiple fields which allowed for different scenarios. i.e. capture the flag, hoist the flag, some tower game and a defend the tank game, etc. The kids NEVER got bored with the setting as we were given such a variety. 4. Our Referee was really enthusiastic and patient. He gave the birthday boy special attention by giving him the opportunity to choose which of the many games to play. My only suggestion for improvement would be to really OVERstress gun safety. He did mention safety measures, but didn't mention the "never point a gun at a person" when not involved in a game. 5. We were given an entire covered section for our group which allowed us plenty of room to regroup and reload, along with having some snacks and drinks when we were done. 6. My sons who have been paintballing before commented that the equipment (masks and guns) were better than those of other places. The guns were more accurate and the masks, although they did fog up somewhat, were not as bad as elsewhere. 7. Their pricing was reasonable and although it was more money than we have ever spent on a birthday party, I felt we got our money's worth. Each player got 500 paintballs which was enough to last for a full 2 hours of playtime. read more

i go there constantly never played woodsball there but their misim ops which are carried out 4 times a year are really fun especially op ice station zebra where u play paintball in the snow. it has a snack place which has good prices and the food to back em up. the refs will watch u like a hawk so obey the rules. and their pro shop is alright in a pinch but a little $$$. overall a decent field have very few bad things to say a bout it read more

O.K. but not great. Although I am not an expert I have played a fair amount of paintball. I have been playing since paintball markers were pump action and paintballs came in tubes of 10 balls for a buck (yes OLD school) I have played in several location in Washington state, California and Massachusetts. Some bigger fields and some smaller fields. Fox 4 does have quite a few fields and various scenarios (some I had never experienced before) and if you really want to see some paint fly, check out the guys that play on the speedball fields (easily visible from the staging area) truly an impressive site. Over all I would say the refs control the fields fairly well (not sure if any of them were even old enough to drive). But the orientation was sparse, ( a couple refs walked up to our table and explained the basics) yes they did cover the safety stuff but that was about it. When I checked with a ref about getting involved with the "general" play he explained it to me like I was a moron and then when I asked (this same ref) if the 3 other guys I came with and I could be on the same team his response was "We'll see" . At that point there were 19 guys standing in line waiting to be "taped up"! His response should have been "sure not a problem" (yeah he was kind of a dick) As most people know your first impression will set the tone for the rest of your encounter. And mine wasn't starting out well. The rental equipment was adequate. (Paintball marker, Mask, web belt with 2 canisters for extra paint) The problem wasn't so much the rental equipment but putting up the rental equipment against the privately owned equipment. When we were there, there were at least 2 teams there. These guys weren't pros but they were all VERY experienced. In all the fields I have EVER played at I have NEVER seen where they put so many experienced plays on the filed with newbies and general players. (It must have been like shooting fish in a barrel for them) and that was the main problem for most of the day. These "team players" would just unload on people. And being team players they would practice their "tactics" on the newbies...So if you like being cannon fodder for "team players" then go out here and play. But if you would prefer a more level playing field either find a different field or get a bunch of friends and play a private game. read more

Safe and professional setup. If you want to play, whether you play all the time or never been, this is by far your best bet around the Boston area for outdoor paintball. They have a good owner with very well ran setup. Good fields and decent pro shop on site. Food from a kichen, covered picnik tables and mostly excellant refs. I've played paintball for more than 20 years and this has been the most consistantly ran and managed place I've been to. P&L, Adventure Games, Boston Paintball, Canobie Lake, Ballz to the Wallz, Cousins Paintball, Friendly Fire,Apache, Plymouth, I've played them all. The people at Fox 4 run a great business. It was the first time our family (along with several friends) tried paintball. Everyone had a great time. One thing I was surprised about was the camaraderie between all the experienced players and staff. It seemed everyone did what ever they could to ensure a good experience for people like us who were completely new to the game (sport?). While waiting for a new game to start, two men came over to our table and sat down (like they were part of our family) and start chatting with us. And then one asked, "Do you mind if we sit here? My buddy here just got attacked by bees and he needs to relax a little." Of course we didn't mind...the poor guy fell into a newly discovered ground hive and had stings on his arms. I introduced myself and the first guy said, "Nice to meet you..my name is Dave. And this is....actually, dude, I didn't get your name?". Dude says, "Oh, my name is Tim." And they shook hands. How cool is that? The story of the bee sting kinda shook me up a little because my son was out there and he has allergies to everything. Dave says, "You should tell the people who work here about it because your son is out in nature and if he gets stung, they'll know how to react quickly." So, Dave tells someone who tells someone who tells the manager and I get schooled by the manager for not telling them my son has allergies. He tells me, "You should have told us about your son. We have employees eating peanut butter crackers and peanut M&M's here....and we sell peanut products. If you told me, I wouldn't have sold anything with peanuts and told my employees to not eat anything with peanuts. Next time, please let us know ahead of time and. I'll go tell my guys to keep off the nuts.". I didn't even think to say anything to anyone because we weren't planning on eating there (they don't sell food, just snacks and drinks) and they were out in nature all day. But he was right. Shame on me! Every time our players came in from a game, they would be covered in sweat and smiling from ear to ear. Fox 4 had great props, great equipment, the refs really knew their stuff and made sure everyone was having a great time. Our kids had a couple of welts on them but they didn't notice those until today. Everyone had a great time and are already talking about our return trip. A couple of our kids did paintball in Boston but they said that was nothing compared to Fox 4. The only complaint is the helmets. Smelly...blah...but, once you get going, you don't notice it. You can also buy a new one from their shop. We'll be doing that next time we play. All in all - it was a great experience. read more

Good place to play at lots of space. Only thing is be careful of how much paint balls you buy. Unopened cases can not be returned.
