To start with a positive, my kid and his friends ended up having a blast. However, the negative to being family ran is the fact that this mouthy girl is the fore front of the business. It was an extreme turn off. I let her know me and my 13 yr old and his friends were here for the first time and needed guidance and she was extremely arrogant. My questions along with the other parents and children, were met with " its common sense, doesn't take a rocket scientist, we know who isn't the brightest bulb in the bunch" super distasteful. No need for It. I was embarrassed for choosing this place when the other parents were disgusted by the lack of professionalism. Atleast the kids ended up having funbut this wouldn't be my first choice if you are bringing young kids for their first experience. Was not welcoming at all and it was pulling teeth to find out how to navigate as a first timer,met with disrespect. Should probably pick someone else to be the face. Experienced painball for the first time over the summer and I am glad that I did it at Matt's Outback Painball. After traveling down a long and dusty dirt and gravel road, the trees parted and gave way to a very hodgepodge parking lot as well as several playing fields that were both wooded or were out in the open with only barriers to hide behind. We went and got suited up by the friendly staff behind the counter who gave us a brief toutorial on how to use the guns as well as provided us with safety equipment - a helmet which is mandatory and a chest protector (which I highly recommend). For a Saturday afternoon, they were quite busy with players of a variety of ages and although the majoirty of them were male - I never felt that my gender put me at a disadvantage. Most if not all of the "experts" were very helpful explaining the various games - from capture the flag to breach to reconn - I tried all of them - and by the end of the afternoon capture the flag was my favorite. Surprisingly there is a lot more stragegy involved then I though - it's more then just point and shoot. A couple of recommendations - wear old clothes. The paint is waterbased but I am not going to lie - it hurts when you get hit. Jeans and long sleeve shirts help minimize the pain. You will get dirty (which is why you should wear old clothes) rolling around the woods to hide from your "enemies". If you have a question - ask. There were many experiences players there (as could tell when looking around the store and seeing guns that were as expensive as $1,500) but all were friendly and helpful. By the end of the afternoon, I was dirty, bruised, and sweaty but I had a great time and although I probably won't make paintball as part of activities I regularly participate in if you ever thought about playing paintball I recommend coming here. read more

I have played paintball at Matt's Outback Paintball twice and had a blast both times. They offer three different types of play, speedball for quick rapid fire games with blow up barriers, woodsball for more strategy out in a wooded area with towers and defensive barriers made out of wood, and I believe they call it "tires" which is like speedball, but using car tires and more stable barriers to hide behind. All three require very different strategies and have completely different feel of play to them. I personally liked tires the best, as the games were shorter than woodsball, but allowed for some strategy that speedball seems to lack. Either way, the place is very large, as I only had a chance to play just a small portion of the woodsball area, but am looking forward to trying the rest soon. The employees were extremely helpful, as I went with some friends and family, with the majority of them never having played before. I had played at other places before, and brought my own gear, but it was good to get a refresher on the basics. The employees went over the basics of how to play and explained the pricing very well. They all seemed very knowledgeable, which makes it much easier for the people who haven't played before. Pricing seemed pretty standard, though they do require you to use their paintballs to play, which wasn't an issue. The rental guns and other equipment were a little beat up from use, but I didn't see any issues with performance, and that's what really matters. The layout of the different games was very well done and offered different strategies which to me are the most fun. The last time we went on a Saturday so it was pretty busy, but most of the players seemed to be playing speedball, so we had almost no wait for tires and woodsball. There was one employee who was playing in the games who was also extremely helpful giving us a layout of the course, giving us pointers, and even letting some of us use his very expensive gun. Whether beginner to weekend warrior- This is easily the best field in the surrounding area. You can't beat the prices or the atmosphere. From recreational woods ball to tournament play they have it all. The staff is very helpful. 22 of us, fathers and sons (ages 12-14), had a blast at Matt's Outback. The reservation process through Tom and Rebecca was seamless from the get-go. Very easy going and great to work with. Our group had our own space and the refs/staff were awesome. The courses offered ample space, obstacles and plenty of fun. The free hot dogs were definitely a PLUS. It was a BLAST for all of us - both grown-ups and kids. Memories of a lifetime for sure. All of us have decided to make this at least an annual event if not semi-annual. Many of us had paintballed throughout CT and all agreed Matt's Outback was the BEST. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this place. read more

I've brought my son and his friends to Matt's Outback many, many times. The prices are reasonable (we also got the season pass a couple of times). The staff was friendly and helpful if we had an equipment problem (usually with our own stuff) and we would sometimes rent equipment for the friends. This place is LARGE and as other reviewers have mentioned you usually have the choice of woodsball, speedball, and the 'tires'. There is also a shooting range to get you gun working correctly. Rules are enforced (a good thing) and there is usually a mix of experienced and newbie players. The kids were never bored even after many hours of playing. At the end of the day they were tired, exhausted, and dirty and had fun comparing their war wounds on the way home. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I haven't been to any other paintball facilities. read more
