Sherman's Catering

We used Sherman's Catering Co. for our wedding this year. They were suggested to us by our venue…read more The food was delicious, the dinner staff was BEYOND exceptional for the price and they were truly so kind. It pains me that I can't give a 5 star review despite my actual "day of" going perfectly. That being said, my "day of" was the only enjoyable interaction we had with Sherman's. We only corresponded with the owner, Duane, via email. We met twice to discuss things in person at the office and NEVER throughout my entire wedding planning journey have I feel more like an inconvenience to someone. I will note that we did decline to rent linens and cutlery from Sherman's, and though that seems like a reasonable request to me it seemed to throw Duane for an absolute loop. I also asked that they not arrive DURING our ceremony due to the fact that we were having an outdoor wedding and it would be disruptive. I do not know if this was the reason that he treated us with such hostility but planning with him was an absolute nightmare. During our second meeting I asked him to walk me through their process for the day of, such as arrival times and the set up schedule. He only answered my questions with one word answers and scoffed at me if I asked him to elaborate on any of his answers. We drove over 35 minutes to get there and this meeting lasted for MAYBE 8 minutes. I have never written a yelp review before. I like to think that I'm a pretty easy-going person and that it takes a lot to upset me to the point of complaining about it on the internet. However, after having to interact with the owner of this business I could not wait for my wedding day to pass so I could write this. He was so incredibly rude and hostile during our last meeting that if it had not been the week of the wedding, I would have pulled the plug on this and paid the cancellation fee. I unfortunately could never give Duane a piece of my mind about his customer service skills prior to our wedding because I was too nervous about what could happen to the food being served at our wedding. I know they're reasonably priced, but we still deserved respect as paying customers and as simple humans interacting with one another. BRIDES TO BE: beware! They serve delicious food and the service the day of was phenomenal. Dealing with the owner of this business will only increase your pre-wedding stress and add difficulties to your planning. Up to you, if you can handle inconsiderate, childish behavior, go for it. If not, save yourself the trouble.

I had to arrange all this from out of town being away unexpectedly for a month until literally the night before my event and had no worries whatsoever. We just held it last weekend and it was a smash. Mitchie and Wan were so accessible and had great suggestions for the menu within my budget, for timing and with all details. Raphael and Isidoro, who were on site the whole event, were fantastic from set up to tear down, keeping things full and fresh, including presentation with tablecloths and flowers on the buffet, and even helping to wrap things and relocate food indoors when the rain started later. We had many, many compliments on the quality and flavor of the food from the main courses to the potato salad and corn sides, cookies and even the trimmings--cherry tomatoes so sweet, pepperoncinis with right bite, and, oh, the pork! Yum. I will now always mix horseradish with my BBQ sauce. Happy to support a family run business who puts people and quality first! Looking forward to using them again for future events.

Their team was responsive, helpful and flexible in helping us achieve what we wanted for the event. We had some request that seemed like a big deal, but Sazs event planner Michelle said "no problem!" as she helped develop our menu and overall timeline for the evening. Something I appreciated was their willingness and focus on taking care of our guests with allergies/dietary restrictions. While planning was truly a breeze, the service the day of was impeccable. The staff was helpful, professional and very efficient throughout the entire evening. We had so much positive feedback on the food that evening- everyone loved the apple cider glaced short ribs, blackened swordfish and the supper club style relish trays. The bartenders were friendly and knowledgable, ensuring our guest were provided well-crafted speciality cocktails and efficient service.

Katie coordinated both events for us and made the overwhelming process of wedding planning easy and seamless. Saz's facilitated all communication in a timely manner regarding our tasting, final decisions, and timeline for the events. They were also very accommodating with phone calls instead of in-person meetings with us not living in the same city. For the rehearsal dinner we set up a buffet and the food was great! Many of our guests were going up for seconds and told us how good the food was. We went with their burger and chicken bar and there was not only plenty of food but the set up and takedown process after the event was handled with great professionalism and timeliness. For our wedding reception we could not be happier with Saz's as well! All the staff were professional and the food was amazing. We decided to go with hand passed apps for cocktail hour, family style dinner, and then a late night nacho bar. Our family and friends were going on about how great the food was and how many options they had to choose from. We would definitely recommend Saz's for anyone with either small group catering needs or a larger event/wedding reception! Thank you Katie and the Saz's team!

Two adjoining rooms house a bar and a service area where the buffet is set up (the main room is two steps down from the buffet - be careful!). The cushionless wooden chairs are not at all fanny-friendly, especially after 2+ hours. My group was here for a weekday lunch-and-entertainment event. The meal, served buffet-style, included a salad of seasonal mixed greens, rolls, mashed potatoes, mostaciolli sautéed in olive oil & garlic, chicken piccata, roasted vegetables (served cold), and chef-carved roast sirloin. Plated brownies were brought out for dessert. As far as banquet hall food goes, the quality was exceptional. The entertainer on this day, John Ludy Puleo, is a gifted vocalist who emulates the styles of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Tom Jones, Bobby Darin, and other Las Vegas greats of the '50s-'80s. Following lunch, his nostalgic 90-minute show delighted the audience. I was underwhelmed by the service at this event. If you wanted a beverage other than water, you had to go and get it yourself. When I pointed out a soiled half-filled water glass to a server, he actually picked it up, examined it, gave me a ridiculous "explanation," and set it back down on the table! The guy carving the sirloin whittled off a tiny piece; when I asked for more, he made a face. Finally, it seemed rather odd that the restroom doors were propped wide open the entire time.

Paisano's on Broadway occupies a unique--and important--place in Richmond's dining landscape…read more Credit where it's due: Phil and Karen Gilardi were instrumental in elevating the town beyond pure fast-food dependence. They recognized early that Richmond sits on a corridor of movement--Chicago flowing north toward Lake Geneva, that Midwestern analogue to the Riviera--and made a legitimate attempt to create a stop where people could sit down, slow down, and share a meal. I still remember my first visit, back when Paisano's had maybe five tables. I was seated next to none other than Dan Rostenkowski, then Speaker of the House. That moment captured something about the place: it aspired to be part of a broader, more connected world than Richmond typically experiences. The concept has always been clear--family-style, approachable Italian, positioned as a step above casual dining. And to their credit, they've maintained consistency over the years. That said, the food itself lands squarely in the "acceptable" category. Not offensive, not memorable--reliably mediocre. It satisfies the requirement of a meal without ever quite justifying a detour. Yet here's the reality: within a five-mile radius, Paisano's remains the only place where you can reasonably take someone on a sit-down date without apology. That alone gives it staying power. Paisano's isn't trying to be extraordinary--and it doesn't quite get there. But it filled a vacuum when it arrived, and in many ways, it still does.
