    Cherry Tree Inn
    Ryan H.

What a perfect, cozy BnB! I decided to do a solo trip up to Woodstock from Chicago for the weekend and stumbled upon The Cherry Tree Inn while searching for lodging (purposefully avoiding hotels or motels). I'd never been up to Woodstock before and, although I have seen Groundhog's Day once, it was not the impetuous behind my trip. I wanted to find a historic, cozy, unique town, and didn't want to have to travel far to get there - thus, Woodstock. In fact, if you're commuting from the city, Woodstock has a Metra station, making traveling there easy, cheap, and convenient. The Cherry Tree Inn itself is magically perfect. Lori and George were A+, superstar hosts. They are easy to talk to, fun and kind, knowledgeable and helpful. They make each of their guests feel comfortable and at home and, importantly, are highly communicative (need recommendations for food or drinks or coffee or shopping, they are no more than a quick text away). Arriving to Woodstock with virtually no plans, I used Lori and George's recommendations and ended up having a wonderful weekend. The Bed and Breakfast itself is breathtaking. Located in a historic Victorian mansion, Lori and George clearly put a lot of love and care into keeping the home up. It's big and warm, but cozy and private. My room was comfortable, warm, and spacious. I had my own full bathroom and there were extra blankets, towels, etc, if I needed them. There is a big living room that is open to all guests and its stocked with books, Groundhog Day memorabilia, and a giant TV for everyone to enjoy. There are snacks and drinks available at all times, and Lori and George make (literally, bake from scratch) delicious breakfasts. Additionally, location wise, you are never more than a quick 7-10 minute walk from the historic town square, making getting around incredibly easy. I cannot say thank you enough to Lori and George - I'll definitely be back!

Have you seen Groundhog Day? I first watched it shortly after it came out in 1993. It's always been one of my favorite movies. A few years back I discovered that the movie was filmed, not in Pennsylvania, but in Woodstock, IL and that the town still has many landmarks from the movie that are part of a walking tour. When I decided to take a road trip as my vacation, I knew I had to make Woodstock, IL one of my stops. My first night in town I stayed at a local chain motel. That night I drove to the downtown area, parked, and walked around. Everything I wanted to see was within walking distance, including the bed and breakfast Bill Murray stays in in the movie. The Cherry Tree Inn Bed & Breakfast looked so familiar, even in the dark, as I've possibly seen Groundhog Day more times than any other movie. I took a bunch of pictures and selfies in front of the house and fully expected to hit the road the next morning. However, the next morning, I realized I had not taken my most recent auto insurance card with me, and my policy expired THAT DAY. In order to be in compliance, I realized I would need to stay in town long enough to call my insurance provider, have them email my insurance card, then hit the library in order to print it out. Fate. While waiting for the library to open, I was poking around on the Cherry Tree Inn's website and happened upon the cell phone number of the owners and a note that said "Call or text us." I texted them, fully expecting they would not respond or have no vacancies, or both. To my shock, I received a reply within 20 minutes. Within a couple hours, I had gotten breakfast in town, printed up my insurance card, and walked down to the Cherry Tree to check in. Lori and George were amazing, and we had quite the conversation while I checked in, complete with George playing music from the Groundhog Day soundtrack to really set the mood. I stayed in the Magnolia Suite, which sports the same view from the movie whenever Bill Murray's character looks out the window. That same iconic view I had seen...how many times throughout my life? We had another long chat that night, with Lori and George offering to make me breakfast in the morning. I thanked them but told them I would have to pass on breakfast, as I needed to hit the road early. 6:00am my alarm went off. I bet they would have arranged to play "I Got You Babe" as my alarm song if I had requested it. Within an hour, I was packed up and ready to go. I took a nice, long look through the window, seeing again the same view from the movie. I wanted to burn that image in my brain. I wrote a long note, thanking Lori and George, and then I hit the road, wondering if I'd ever find a better place during my travels.

I know this place already has amazing reviews but i had to add another one! We traveled all the way from SoCal, and Lori & George made our stay excellent! They were so friendly, showed us around the whole place and told us all about its history, got to check out the amazing Groundhog Day shrine and all the really cool items they had with it, and Lori even made us the most delicious breakfast ever! They literally made us feel like we were part of their family. Our experience was unforgettable.. we'll definitely be back again!!

NOTHING BUT FIRST CLASS: We visited the city of Woodstock strictly for the groundhog festivities.  The Cherry Tree Inn had a cancellation on the day we'd called and fortunately we landed the Magnolia Suite.  It's the same room that provided Bill Murray's view in the movie "Groundhog Day".  To land THIS room, much less a stay at this B&B on the Groundhog Day holiday weekend is like acquiring season tickets at the storied Lambeau Field.  Everyone who learned we were staying there thought we'd won the lottery, or that we had called years in advance.  We arrived Thursday evening from LA via Chicago in a blizzard and -30 wind chill temps.  WOW!!! It literally hurt to breathe.  We were met graciously by their son Payton, who offered to help with luggage and ultimately gave us the tour of the historic mansion. Gorgeous, and they'd clearly kept the original Victorian ambiance as much as possible. Owners Lori and George take very good care of the place, and we'd often seen them cleaning in our time there (including washing windows - it's immaculate). Friday morning, special guest Stephen Tobolowsky (aka Ned Ryerson of "Groundhog Day" fame) was downstairs telling stories before breakfast. He was there to partake in several Groundhog Day festivities, including signing autographs and taking pictures at the library, the Groundhog Day prognostication reading, and ultimately receiving a key to the city. Upon returning to our room, we found a gift bag full of goodies, including a Woodstock sweatshirt I'd been asking about sitting at our door! Saturday morning by 630a they'd once again sent us off to the groundhog festivities with a nice warm breakfast.  They'd also given FREE tours of the B&B that day. Over 600 visitors walked through their home.  And I believe they had another 200+ visitors the following day!  They'd provided amazingly soft and tasty cookies and nice warm apple cider on both days (I'm not usually a fan of the drink, but Lori's mix tastes amazing)!  All donations from the free tours go to charity (Rotary Club's Christmas Clearing House). Breakfast was served every morning, and it was never the same exact breakfast twice.  On our last day, they'd asked us what time we wanted OUR breakfast to be made...  Literally tailor made, and always delicious!!! I could honestly go on and on with tall tales of warmth and hospitality from Lori, George and their children, but I strongly urge you to find out for yourself.  Did you read what they did for those who were affected by the government shutdown?  Charitable, giving human beings! You won't find this kind of eloquence or over the top accommodations in many 5 star hotels.  A must see/stay while in Woodstock!!! John & Violet Brault Los Angeles, CA

We love the Cherry Tree Inn. It's a beautiful, quaint, warm and comfortable atmosphere. Hosts George and Lori are very knowledgeable about the town and helpful in their recommendations. Wonderful, big, delicious breakfast! The location is a short walk to the town square. Don't miss the Groundhog Day movie walking tour!

My family and I just had an AMAZING stay with Lori and George. We were celebrating my dad's 60th birthday and he's a huge fan of Groundhog Day. Lori worked with my mom and set up so many awesome treats. They rearranged the living room so we could watch the movie as a family and provided treat buckets for us to snack on while watching, ordered my dad a groundhog cake from a local bakery, made us dinner reservations and took us on a movie location tour of the town. The home itself is absolutely beautiful and cozy. The bathrooms are luxurious and the bedrooms comfortable. Lori and George were so friendly and provided a delicious brunch for us and pumpkin bread to take home. We had a wonderful experience and I would recommend a stay here to anyone. We can't wait to come back!

He has owned it for 19 years and now it is strictly for weddings. No store ~ nothing to buy. Lovely grounds, plants, ponds, waterfalls, gazebo, arbor, water fountain, and twinkling lights in the trees. There is a lovely outdoor area set up for the ceremony and then we moved indoors for the cocktail hour. It is open and bright. However, one toilet for about 100 people was interesting. There is a tent, that is airconditioned and probably heated based on the season and weather. Plenty of room to move about so moving around the tables was easy. Just a heads up: they lock the doors for the indoors after everyone has moved to the tent. That means, you must use the toilet facilities attached to the tent. Better than a port-a-potty, but . . . Currently, Swanson is blocked off so you have to drive around the road block.

We loved EVERYTHING about The Gardens. The property is dreamy and beyond well-kept. The flowers, fairy lights and small waterfalls and creek winding through the gardens just give you total serenity and joy. We could not have made a better choice for such a beautiful place to start our new lives together as a married couple. Even all our friends and family could not stop gushing about how stunning the whole place was! Honestly, I hope someone we know gets married here soon because I want to go back and relive those special moments we had from our own wedding. Ladies, when you found your hunny and you just knew that was it, they were the one...well that's how this place made us feel. It was absolutely perfect and am so happy we found it. You can tell Concorde center takes great care of the land. I will say this venue would be best for weddings under 100-110 people max. It's the not biggest. We had 95 people and it was perfect with enough space for a dance floor and photobooth. A few downsides that could be worked on is you have to choose their preferred caterers. They give you only 3 options. First option never got back to me. I called and emailed them multiple times and never heard a word back. I would advise Concorde to take them completely off their list. Second place was pricey and out of our budget. The woman who owns it was very busy and seemed uninterested in our event. The last place I had no choice but to go with was 31 North. Which we were dissatisfied with their food. I also wish they would allow you to go into the homes a little earlier than 10 am. Considering it can take hours for a bridal party to get ready the day of. Other than that everything went very smoothly and I'm glad I choose this venue close to home.

It was a little confusing at first, since when we walked in, there were tables throughout the room. However, once we got our bearings around the event, we had a great time. We started shopping the makers market, which didn't have a lot of vendors, but had enough of different things to make it interesting. Then we had charcuterie cups filled with crackers, nuts, chocolate, fruit, salami, and cheese. A bit overpriced for what they were but glad to have something snackie.
