I personally planned and Booked my Church Ladies Spring Luncheon at "31 North Banquets" on May 4, 2025; it was "Exceptional!" The room was beautifully set-up for 64 guests. The "Staff was amazing and attentive" in serving our delicious "Family Style" Luncheon. I was please they could work within our "Budget" to alllow us to have this Luncheon in their beautiful Banquet Room. In addition there was space for our "Entertainer." Went to an event that was catered. We had beef with mashed potatoes. Green beans, salad and mostaccioli, it was all good but the pasta was not hot it was warm. The staff was great flavors were good and was an amazing meal. Would use this service again to busy eating to take pictures lol. read more

Recently attended a wedding that was catered by this company. Service was poor. Most people at my table ended up not being served food or cake. I was one of the few that did and let me tell you, the quality was cheap and honestly gross. I've had better food in a college cafeteria. Also I noticed they never served the bride and groom any cake which was weird. The next day I came down with really bad food poisoning which makes me severely question the handling of the food. All in all I know I won't be using this catering company and will only recommend it to my most vile of enemies. Thanks for ruining my cousins wedding and making half the guest list sick. My daughters 8th grade banquet was hosted here. Everything was super bland, no seasoning on top of not enough food was provided for the number of guests. We were served over cooked pasta, under seasoned baked chicken, frozen chicken tenders and salad that was not provided enough dressing. The bread & butter were fresh. I mostly worked with Antonio through this process, Bernice only through emails. When we went to our tasting we specifically asked if the food quality would be the same the day of the wedding and they assured us it would be. We ordered appetizers, 2 entrees, sides and had their byob package. Appetizers were great. The servers and captain did an amazing job. Loved their service. However the food quality was not there. The chicken piccata was really dry there was no sauce. The beef fajitas were just okay. The only good part of all our food was the appetizers and pasta side. This place catered my wedding on 5/20/23. Highly would not recommend this place. Outrageous price for sub par food. I've been to alot of weddings in my life and have always had exceptional food. Fast forward to my own wedding and we book this company and honestly was some of the WORST wedding food I've ever had. PLEASE don't ever give this company a dime of your money. I wish I could give 0 stars. I recently went to my nieces wedding that was catered by 31 N and was very upset to find out how this company has screwed over the bride and groom. The food was tasteless, no seasoning, very bland. I know at least 2 people so far that attended the wedding and they got food poisoning. The servers were incompetent and rude to the bride. It was a family style meal and yet they were not refilling the dishes saying there was none but they had a ton of leftovers to bring home. They brought a plate of 4 bland watery steaks when there were 8 people to a table. The cake was not served to everyone, not even the bride and groom. Overall this catering company was a complete rip off and they've been very rude to the bride and groom giving all sorts of BS excuses. Bernice, Jim, and their crew at 31 North made our wedding day amazing! The crew came to the reception venue the Friday before to set up the tables, the bar, etc. which was very helpful for us to see the dinner and cocktail hour areas all set up before the big day. On the big day, the staff was very attentive to us (the bride and groom) as well as all of the guests, ensuring timely passing of appetizers and fast serving of the dinner courses. Also, the dinner was nice and hot, showing that the final stages of cooking were completed at the reception venue just prior to serving. All of the staff were so kind. During the year leading up to the wedding, Bernice was very responsive via email, answering all of my questions and adjusting our proposal countless times with any additions or subtractions. She was also very accommodating when we wanted to add a few extra desserts, plate some of the dinner courses separately, etc. Overall, we'd highly recommend 31 North for any of your catering needs in the McHenry, Hebron, Woodstock areas of IL! HORRIBLE experiences with 31 North for my wedding this October. Two of the girl caterers had stolen one of our guests medical marijuana joints that had been left on his table outside the tent and then were smoking them out in the front of the house during their shift which was beyond unprofessional! Our guest had spent time looking around thinking he had just misplaced them and nobody knew until the caterers had finished delivering food to the tent, then the two girls went to the front of the house and thought nobody would notice them indulging during the job. Many guests made jokes about seeing our caterers smoking out in the front and it was extremely embarrassing. With how expensive 31 North was, we thought we had hired a high end and elegant catering company but it was not. At the end of the night 0 leftovers were saved and a ton of food was taken off of the tables before dancing even started. We had done family style meals and we were under the assumption that whatever food was left in the middle of the table would be saved since we paid for it. Multiple guests couldn't make it to our reception last minute and we already had provided the final head count to the caterers so it is impossible that there was no leftovers from appetizers or the meals based on less people showing up the day of. Bernice informed me that the captain of the night made the executive call to dispose of all our food due to covid precautions. This made no sense to us because it was family style with serving spoons so nothing was contaminated and this policy was never discussed with us. There was MULTIPLE people from my family helping the caterers that night who the captain could have confirmed with before making such a major decision to throw out the food that we had left over at the end of the night. This even includes all of the full plates and entrees that were already paid for of guests who couldn't show up. We saw how much food was taken out of the tent and it is so wasteful and disgusting that it was completed thrown out. Our wedding was still a great night in all of the other areas and the actual quality of the food was mediocre but the service was just absolutely horrible, including dealing with Bernice and her husband after the fact. My mom and I had dealt with Bernice for the entire planning experience which went smooth but it was the actual day of that turned out very poor, and that was the important part. It may have just been the specific group of servers on staff that night that caused such a bad experience for us, however it reflected badly on the professionalism of 31 North. I contacted Bernice and her husband Jim regarding the issues after the fact and they sounded concerned and apologetic on the phone and then didn't get back to us for a couple weeks after hearing the issues. I have sent multiple emails to Bernice for some sort of reimbursement on what was disposed of without permission and have received no response (great customer service)! 31 North did a very poor job with our wedding and didn't even bother to make it right with us after how disappointed we were with the service. Based on being ignored by Bernice I believe she is as unprofessional as the company they run, which makes sense why they don't care to correct the mistakes made. This is the last place you want to cater any event that is very special to you, especially a wedding. I had heard good things about this place when trying to select our wedding caterer but I will be sure to tell all of my friends and people I know in this area to absolutely AVOID 31 NORTH at all costs if you want a reliable and professional catering crew at your event. read more

We at Tree of Life Ministries International celebrated our 25 Anniversary there recently. I was very impressed with the professionalism, the attention to detail, great communication and not to mention the delicious food served. It was the best. The wonderful menu we chose included lemon chicken, beef with gravy, pasta primavera, mashed potatoes, green beans almondine served family style with plates of desert bars and cookies. I did not hear one complaint, people were raving about the food! The venue was lovely, the servers were the best. Amanda Rose, the Captain , the servers, Kaitlyn and Sofia, were polite, kind and attentive to all our needs. We were kept informed regarding everything going on with the food which was served exactly at the times scheduled. In past years, I have held meetings in large hotels in the Chicago area and I can truly say I never had better service than at "31 North Banquets and Catering." Bernice, one of the owners, communicated very clearly and was quick to respond to telephone calls and was very pleasant and helpful in working with me on dates, etc. Tony, was very helpful in working with me on the details and layout of the room as well as the table runners and center pieces that were available if I chose to use them. Food Poisoning Fiasco If I could give this place a minus 5 stars trust me I would. For starters all you have to do is look at the exterior of the venue... I went to a wedding catered by them last month and let me say if you want to get salmonella, listeria, or possibly e-coli by all means hire them to cater your wedding. The wedding I attended was Sept 28th and more than half of the wedding guest including myself, we all got food poisoning. Absolutely no accountability whatsoever from this establishment. Words to the wise to the owners of this joint; please make sure your employees wash their hands before handling food! Local health authorities have been contacted. read more

We've really searched high and low for a caterer for our upcoming wedding. Some were crazy expensive and all we wanted was some good food for our guests to enjoy. My mom researched and found this place. Low and behold, they used to be the Warsaw Inn which was a place that my grandparents liked to go. We had our tasting and REALLY enjoyed our selections. Antonio was amazing. He explained everything to us and offered up some advice! Bernice has also been great to work with. Super disappointing. Son's wedding. Contract clearly stated they were to provide cups. No cups for the 1st 30 minutes of cocktail hour. Communicated beforehand but proper mixers not brought, hot appetizer not served timely. Was told it was customary to tip 20-30% of total catering bill beforehand. Gave a generous tip beforehand. Apparently not shared with staff because they didn't know they were tipped. I do not recommend. read more

31 north was the caterer for my fiancés and my wedding this year. We were extremely happy with the food that we tasted at our tasting, and happy overall with the staff that day. They made the selection process very easy that day as well. However, come to the day of the wedding, we received the wrong plates, no kids meals (that were ordered), and come to find out from the owner afterwards that the plates we ordered were unavailable for 6 months... yet we were never made aware. On top of that coming out into our reception I come to see 6 pieces of lettuce on a bread plate for our guests. And the plate was a paper chinet plate. How embarrassing. This company puts more work into getting people in the door and booking events that following through and making sure the event was a success for those involved. We had a company party here last weekend and I was pleasantly surprised with the venue! It was very clean and modern and the whole event went really well. They kept the lines moving quickly (bar line and buffet line) and the food was done well. We had stuffed shells, chicken, sliced beef, green beans and salads. Nice work 31 North! read more

Went to this place this morning for breakfast! Was sooo good. Cute little outside area that was perfect. Pretty flowers picnic tables with umbrellas, also shade provided by some large trees. Do not book this place for your wedding! The kitchen blasted ZZ Top through our vows, they made everyone sit down but refused to serve the food for 30 minutes (I would have liked to been socializing with my guests instead of forced to sit), when they did serve the food they gave all the vegans very non-vegan food (it was assigned seating, they knew beforehand), the lady that was helping us day of was an absolute nightmare. It's years later and I am ashamed everytime I think if my wedding because of the terrible way this place handled themselves. Very far from best day of my life. My family had a 'celebration of life' luncheon here for a recently departed family member, and everything seemed to be good. The food was good, the atmosphere was nice -- however, it really got me that they tacked on a 4% fee for using a credit card to pay the bill. They didn't state this up front to my family when they made the arrangements - and when you don't come prepared to pay with another form of payment - you are forced into their ridiculous fee. It's not like this was a $5.00 transaction - we're talking big money. I think if you plan to charge someone to cover the fees you are paying (and I'm sure they pay less than 4% on their swipes) - you need to state this ahead of time so that someone can prepare ahead of time and have their checkbook or the large amount of cash on hand. I also was a big put off by the guy "helping" serving at the buffet line (by handing out one piece of garlic bread). I felt like we were being limited and we all breathed a sigh of relief when he ran back to the kitchen and we could just help ourselves. I can understand wanting to be nearby in case someone does need help - but we were all capable of grabbing and serving our own food. If we could scoop noodles and sauce by ourselves, I think we could handle using tongs to grab a slice of garlic bread. read more

I have gone to some luncheons, and evening party's at 31 North the food was always good, but what I found exceptional was the well trained staff. Every one that ever stepped on to the dining room floor waited on the guests like we were all VIP's it was just amazing! You never had to look for someone, for water, or coffee or anything, they pay attention to detail and comfort for their clients. That is treatment beyond just good service! We used 31 North to cater our daughter's graduation party. All of our guests loved the pulled pork sandwiches so much that they even asked me for the recipe! We celebrated our wedding ceremony and reception at 31 North in May 2015. The planning process upfront was fairly easy - the contract and pricing packages are laid out in a convenient manner. My husband and I live out of state, so they offered for our extended family members in the area to come by for a food tasting, which helped us decide on our menu. Also, our final head count came in under the guaranteed number, so 31 North allowed us to choose an upgrade for free, which was a nice gesture. One thing that could have been better was the communication. They were good about answering emails and returning phone calls; however, the information was not always passed along. For example, my husband and I both have severe food allergies, and though we had decided on the dinner options, the appetizers were to be chosen by the chef based on season and availability. Therefore, I notified 31 North of our allergies. The next four times I spoke with them, no allergies had been recorded, and we were assured each time that they would put it in our file. On the wedding day, not only was there a vegetarian first course containing foods to which my husband is allergic, but the waiter apologized to me in the bridal suite for serving strawberries (I am only allergic to eggplant, so it seems the wrong foods had been written down). No one had an allergic reaction, and the rest of the day was lovely. It concerns me that I had to relay important health condition information several times. Perhaps one of the problems was that I spoke to someone different each time I called. Our day-of wedding coordinator was a woman we had neither met nor heard from in the months leading up to the wedding, which seemed a bit impersonal and risky. When we called to put in our down payment, we were put on hold several times and the woman sounded disinterested or distracted. In all, the wedding was very nice; the ceremony and reception setup looked great, the wait staff was competent, and the food was good. If I booked another event with 31 North, I would make sure to try to speak with the same person every time and request follow-up emails for confirmation and reassurance. read more

The staff aren't professionally trained. They barely know how to throw a party or banquet together and the bosses are rude to their employees. I saw one of the bosses yelling at their employees simply because a table cloth was slightly out of place or if they'd accidentally make a minor mistake like so. I asked Bernice to grab me coffee once when she checked on how my table during brunch and I waited for over 15 minutes until I finally asked my waitress to grab it instead. If you're planning on having a celebration or throwing a party, steer clear of 31 North unless you want your wedding or graduation party to be half-assed at best. read more

I've been impressed with the great service and great food which 31North has always provided for our regular luncheons, but in May, with the sudden and untimely passing of our Luncheon Coordinator, it fell to me on short notice to organize and handle the whole thing. The staff couldn't have been more courteous and helpful to me and my wife in our "debut". I'm really thankful for their understanding and attention to detail as well as easing our transition into the Coordinator's spot, and the cuisine's being excellent was a huge help in making the luncheon a success. Recently attended my niece's wedding at 31 North and I can't say enough about the venue, staff, and food. First there is no other venue like this in McHenry - the chic look, the intimate party (only one party there at a time) and the up lighting made it a wonderful event. Then there is the staff that is both never obtrusive but there when you need them. They are very friendly and very helpful. And finally the food was hot and so very good, I go to a lot of events and the food here is the best tasting. The hors d'oeuvres we also very good with a unique twist to there recipes.
