Just a quick drive from Wolfville - even quicker if you're smart and grab a bite to eat at the Port Pub in Port Williams en route - you'll find a charming farmhouse filled with locally made cheeses, milks, and gelato that you might recognize from their permanent shop at the Halifax Farmers Market. There's not a tremendous amount to see or do in the shop but that's okay since you're much better off just taste-testing some delicious cheeses, or chowing down on a sweet and crispy waffle cone. Still, there is a little window you can peek through to see some of the machines put to use behind the scenes. And the cheeses? Well, take it from me, someone who manages to maintain 80% of his body weight through cheese and cheese alone, are fantastic...and abundant: tons of spiced and smoked goudas (Italian herb, herb and garlic, jalapeno, cumin), fresh curds for homemade poutine (danger...), and even fetas and little known German styles that can act as a substitute for cream cheese! The girlfriend used to work here... and she lives in Canning for the summer, so her and I take every opportunity to visit and try the many delicious variations that they have to offer of Gelato. It's reasonably priced (two waffle cones with a scoop in them will run just just north of 6 bucks..) and delicious every time. The building is the original cheese house with a lot more modern addons to the side. You can even get a glimpse into the cheese making process. I am not a huge fan of cheeses by themselves but have really enjoyed all types that I have tried here. They even have a nice seating area built over looking their pond in the front with plenty of places to sit and enjoy a Valley afternoon. Try the gelato. To die for. read more

My husband and I were touring the area and we stumbled across Foxhill Cheese House, or as my husband called it, Foxhill God House (cheese plays a big role in his life). I loved this place! Cute and clean, friendly service, tons of yummy fresh cheese samples, and friendly staff. Oh, and delicious gelato! My husband particularly enjoyed the fact that it was a Thursday, which meant that there were fresh cheese curds, still warm. Delicious. I also quite enjoyed the small selection of Maritime books. Yes, it's a cheese house even though they seem to be popular for their gelato(ice cream basically). We tried almost all their cheese flavours and it tasted really good. I'm really a cheese lover and this place didn't disappoint. Got a taste of the ice cream and while it's got a distinctive taste, I still prefer that farmer's market ice cream. It's okay , but nothing to write home about. Bought yogurt just to give it a try and it tasted really good! That's definitely why I might go again. It has this "homemade" feeling to it. In terms of entertainment value, I was expecting more. At least some kind of explanation how they make their products or some kind of guided tour. If you just walk in not knowing there's a farm right next to the store you wouldn't even know it. I would definitely go and try something else next time, but not the ice cream. Probably one of the best known Nova Scotian cheese house and definitely an award winner. The specialities of the house include cheddar, gouda and my daughter's favorite - quark. I'm partial to the fresh curds myself. If you're a cheese fiend, you'll love to drive out to Port Williams to watch them make it and enjoy a taste in their lovely shop in the front. They have a good selection of artisan cheeses, milk, clotted cream, eggs, crackers, nice candies and I thought I saw some French bread in the store as well. This is a pleasant store that's in a beautiful farming area outside of Port William. Fox Hill has been in the cheese business for several years. It is a stable enterprise that's sells a good product and is a credit to the community. read more

We always try and stop in here when we take a drive to the Valley. It never seems to be busy when we stop in, which could be partially thanks to the slightly remote location, but the staff is always really helpful and it's always bright, clean and inviting in there. They have their usual cheese and dairy products available for purchase, but also gelato to sample (so. yum.). We picked up a container of peanut butter gelato last time we were there and it was sooooo good - it lasted for months! And they carry products by other farms, so there is a good variety - one of my favs is the Ranchers Acres spreadable goat cheese - I usually pick one of these up every time I visit. There is also a nice place to sit outside in the summer with a nice view of the surrounding farm fields. All in all, a great detour for your next road trip! read more

If you are a cheese head, this place is for you! I'm not but I still enjoy stopping in when I'm in the valley. I love gelato and Fox Hill makes some pretty tasty versions, though I wish they wouldn't use artificial colors in the gelato.. I like that they are branching out and now sell milk and chocolate milk. I also appreciate that they sell freezer packs in case you are from a ways a way so the cheese can stay cold on the ride home. read more

The ice cream (gelato) is beyond ridiculous!! We literally made a u turn on the road and went back for more. Super smooth, a large in a waffle cone for $4.50! The rum raisin, peach and blueberry were bursting with flavor and had a nice slightly cheesy creamy undertone. Don't miss this place. read more

Phenomenal products, absolutely delicious and the quality is always apparent. However, their customer service is and for the past three years that I've been a frequent customer (we order milk from them for our cafe) and the service has been mostly awful. They take zero accountability for mistakes, they are quick to blame me (as a customer), and they lack communication throughout the company, which leads to me (again, as a customer) not getting what I've ordered. If they want customers, they should be treating them well. Period. read more
