They only wanted my insurance info, refused to give cost details, and wouldn't tell me when appointments were available. They even refused to provide their names and hung up on me. First, why are there 2 entries for this business on Yelp? Look at ALL the reviews for both and you'll get a clearer picture. My own experience is that this place is a money grubbing operation filled with the usual incompetent optometry techs that just moved up from their previous fast food job. It was close to my new home, so I figured I'd give them a shot. Mistake. They charged me 20% more than usual for simple CR39 plastic replacement lenses (already had frame) for which I already had a script from another doc in Naperville. Campton Hills is 20% more expensive than Naperville?? Give me a break. Moreover, the process was needlessly time-consuming and actually faulty. My script clearly stated a PD measurement and the incompetent person helping me wanted to remeasure - why? Of course she came up with another number. When I stated that I am sensitive to the PD value, she said "oh well they'll split the difference". Huh, are you nuts? My reaction was to tell her "NO, you'll order the lenses as written in the script - period." What an idiot. Thankfully I received the lenses properly made. She then told me it'll be 10 business days. Are you joking? In decades I have never waited more than 5 days for simple single vision, uncoated CR39 lenses that take about 2 minutes to fit to a frame. When I asked why, she gave me the nonsense COVID supply chain excuse. Baloney, as there's no shortage of CR-39 blanks and my glasses were in 4 business days later. Next time I will make the drive back to my old supplier and spare myself the expense and aggravation here. read more

I went to Fox Valley Ophthalmology because I needed cataract surgery. The contact in the Surgery Scheduling Department, Carrie, is rude, abrupt and unprofessional, not returning calls promptly. Her supervisor, Julie is worse. I had an altercation with Carrie and asked to speak to her supervisor who was Julie. She talked down to me and was very self-righteous. I had a question about their billing practices and the person in billing, Kathy kept interrupting and talking over me. The front office staff in the St. Charles office are rude, unprofessional and impatient. The only people who made my association with them tolerable are Dr. Hefelfinger and Katie, one of the employees in the optical department in the Elgin office. Fox Valley Ophthalmology is a business gem. I saw Dr Halkias and Dr Harvey. Both were friendly, competent, and extremely knowledgeable. Dr Harvey in her retinal analysis noticed my eyes were quite dry and recommended "plugs" that might help. I did not even feel her placing the tiny plugs in my eyes which has miraculously cured my eye fatigue particularly in the evenings. It is amazing what one gets used to without ever knowing there may be a remedy. Thank you so much for taking away the eye fatigue and giving me back the relaxing comfort of well hydrated eyes. read more

I've had three interactions with Fox Valley Ophthalmology. In each case, the lady on the other end of the phone has been absolutely awful to deal with while trying to book our first appointment with them. Due to the COVID-19 issue, we had to have to reschedule our initial eye appointment with them. Well, they called me and said that they were canceling our appointment. I had to beg her to understand why they were canceling it. When she explained why, I asked to reschedule the appointment and rebooked for May 19, 2020. Today, some NASTY lady called and said, "We are canceling your appointment for May 19." Without asking me if I would like to reschedule to a later date or even asking me if I understood why they were canceling it (this time I knew because of current CDC guidelines). At the very least, I'm done dealing with these nasty people with no phone etiquette. They must not need new patients, because treating new patients like the way I have been treated will absolutely result in no new patients. read more

My family and I have been coming here since I can remember and each visit has been great. The staff here is some of the best I have ever dealt with and they go above and beyond to make sure that you are satisfied. Scheduling an appointment here is very easy and the staff does a good job at sending you friendly reminders. They also never forget your birthday! I always buy my yearly supply of contacts here as well because they usually offer a discount off if you purchase during the same visit as your appointment. They always keep the waiting room clean and spacious which is actually very comforting, especially during those cold winter days! read more

The receptionist was very rude when I tried to make an appointment as a new patient. I tried to explain to her the reason for the appointment and she was very impatient and questioned everything I said in a very condecending attitude. I was just trying to tell her how I felt in my eyes and I don't need her to question everything I say which she knew nothing about as a receptionist! All I need is an appointment! Then there came the insurance question. I was using a new private insurance plan issued by an insurance company she probably hasn't worked with before. The moment she heard the company's name, she became so impatient and told me straight in the ears that she knew nothing about this company. Her attitude was unbelievably rude. I have been using this insurance plan with some other doctors and never had an issue. At least they were patient enough to write down the insurance information and made some calls with the insurance company before treating me like this! I had a great experience in the Elgin office. I saw Dr. Hefner for extreme dryness and irritation in both eyes. He explained what he found and what treatment he recommended in clear, simple language. He made sure I had a drug discount card for the medication he prescribed in case my insurance didn't cover it. Everyone in the office was professional, pleasant and helpful. My family and I came here in hopes to find a new eye place. Mine and my dad's glasses prescription along with my mom's contact prescription were all incorrect right off the bat. I went in this afternoon to pick up my hopefully corrected lenses. Due to COVID, there are mandatory questions asked and your temperature taken before you can even walk through the doorway. It was 88° and I was wearing a black jean jacket and leggings. So obviously I clocked in a 101° fever. I am not sick and I have not been around anyone who is sick. The nurse goes to talk to someone behind the counter about having me reschedule and I wasn't even given the chance to explain that I am not sick and that it's hot out and to give me a minute or two to cool off. If I hadn't spoken up that I was there to fix my glasses which takes 5 minutes, I would have had to drive back. I was told to leave, go sit in my car for 4 minutes, and go pick up the glasses downstairs in a basket. Because of all of this, I could not try the new lenses on with a doctor to make sure they were better. When I was in a week ago, another hot day, I had a temperature of 99°. I fully understand that precautions must be taken especially for that one person that does have a fever. However, many people are going to have to reschedule if you're taking their temperatures as soon as they come in from being out in the heat. Maybe let them stand downstairs for 5 minutes before their appointment to cool down? Just a tip because it was aggravating to feel like I was being shoved out the door and allowed 0 explanation. this is a horrible place, I got lost, called got voice mail, kept looking for the place, got there 12 minutes late as she rolled her eyes, the receptionist quickly said, I put you as a no show, OUR PHONES ARE OFF ON SATURDAY, really nowhere on the message did it say leave a message and we will call you back even on a SATURDAY, as a new patient how the heck would I know this, but she asked and said we will put you in the scheduled, I sat for 1.5 more hours to be told 20 more minutes, I left. I had an issue with my eyes and yes it was early Saturday morning, and the Elgin Fox Valley office was closed so I called the St. Charles office and talked to one of the office staff. I gave her my information and she said she would call my Doctor (Dr. Heffelfinger) and get back to me in a little while....Well what does a little while mean to you....the usual 4-6 hour window? No I was called back within ten minutes by the staff telling me that Dr. Heffelfinger wanted to see me in the office within the hour (Dr Heffelfinger wasn't in the office, but came in to see me). I drove down there and was seen by Dr. Heffelfinger within minutes and he checked my eyes and I was consulted as to what to do and when I should return for further checks. I was out of the office within 2 hours of the time I called them to inquire about assistance. I would tell anyone that Dr. Heffelfinger has and will treat you as if you are one of his family members. I have total faith in his abilities and (I might add he does not have your typical EGO issues a majority of Dr's suffer from and will refer you to someone else if the issue is not within his realm of expertise.) and his staff is of the same quality. If you are concerned about your eyes being healthy and functioning properly make an appointment without hesitation or fear. I would also state that a family member had cataract surgery performed by Dr. Heffelfinger last year and she is really, did I say really? I mean Ecstatic about the results of Dr. Heffelfinger's procedure and his suggestion in regards to choices that have to be made in that procedure. She see 20/20 WITHOUT glasses. (They wore glasses since 1st grade). read more

Their prices are very high, and when their "scratch-proof" coating peeled off the lenses, they refused to fix or replace them--they don't honor more than the manufacturer's warranty. I recently had my first appointment at Fox Valley Opthalmology, and was nothing but impressed. The office is beautiful and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Dr. Wendel is my eye doctor. He is a really caring, and intelligent person. I followed him to St. Charles after he changed offices. It's a 45 minute drive, but well worth it. I would encourage any person that has eye disease to visit, because I think they will receive great care. read more
