Exit the highway, drive past the parking garage and turn left onto Blue Hill Drive, and take the left on in where it says "Amtrak/MBTA Pick-up & Drop off". Either entrance at the end will work. While the left side is more direct and closer to the Amtrak counter, the right side will take you past the Dunkin Donuts. There's a waiting area, the bathrooms are by the elevator, and only two tracks. 1 is outbound, and 2 heads into Boston. Simple. Start heading out when they announce that your train is arriving, about 8 min in advance. Head towards the right if you are Coach bound. Take a seat and the conductor will scan your ticket code and tuck a paper ticket above you. Take it with you if you change seats. If you go past NYC, the crew changes, and every passenger gets scanned again. If you are ADA and need access to one of their accessible seats, there's a way to mention it when buying your ticket, so the conductor will save you a seat in advance. Two bathrooms are available at one end of the Coach car. If the light is on, the bathroom is taken and the door locked. These are roomier than those on airplanes. So are the seats, although they otherwise resemble those found in planes with the tables that fold down and seats that recline back. 120 volt plugs are available, but no screens and no headset jacks, so no music. Stops are announced, so it felt that communication was pretty good on the train and at the station. Coming back and arriving on track 2, we had to exit and head up and over the tracks, where we could go straight into the garage, or take the escalator down by Dunkin Donuts. This program was promoted to riders on the Providence Line (Mansfield & Sharon), and the MAJORITY of those riders get off the train at Ruggles and Back Bay. Going to South Station means all of those customers have to back track 20 minutes to get to work. Slow train + extra time on the T to get back to work means less riders.

If they don't do something about making at least ONE express during rush hour I don't think I am going to be able to take the train from here any longer. Norwood Depot is 2 dollars per day parking with about a 35 minute trip into Boston and I have many more train options to get there and back - even with driving I will be home sooner. I agree this service has serious potential. Imagine if they could build some apartments around some of the patriot place lands? The track also connects with the providence line so there would be service to Boston and Providence. But at the moment the MBTA seems to be trying to kill this line.

There is a trash can on the inbound/Boston side, but no trash can on the outbound side. If it's your first time here, give yourself some extra time so you don't end up on the wrong side. Right now the staircase is closed. So if you are on the wrong side of the track, it will take you an extra 5 mins to get on the bridge overpass to get to the right platform. Be careful when you get on and get off the train, the platform/train is tilted so watch your step as always.

There is some parking off of Rte 27 near the underpass under the tracks. The local cops and businesses will tow you if you try to park in a non-commuter rail parking lot. If the the station is open, get your tickets there from the coffee shop inside to avoid a surcharge on the train. Their machine is unreliable sometimes however. Would have more stars if it was open later and had a bit more parking.

Area is well lit and safe at night. There are various times the trains come through here and the schedule works well. No question ever feels like a bad question when you speak with them, and that level of customer service is exactly what travelers need--whether traveling for work or pleasure. The bathrooms are definitely outdated, but they are clean and, importantly, do not smell. That may sound like a small thing, but there are plenty of businesses with much newer restrooms that cannot say the same. But they should have the option of paper towels to dry your hands, in my opinion of course, besides just hand blowers. Also one big note for the men's bathroom!! There are 2 urinals and there is no divider between them. So if you're shy or worried there may be prying eyes, then use the stalls. I've never personally eaten at the deli, but it always seems to have a steady flow of customers, so that's probably a good sign. The convenience store inside is also very useful. Prices are what you would expect at a transportation hub, although I've found them to be slightly less expensive than at some other travel locations. The station interior is currently undergoing renovations, and it appears that some exterior work is planned as well, including improvements to the sidewalk in front of the station. Hopefully, the upgrades will make an already convenient station even better. One of the best things about this station is the location. It's right downtown and very easy to access. Providence Place Mall is only a short walk away, and the park directly outside the station is a great feature that makes the surrounding area feel much more inviting. My only real caveat is access to Tracks 1 and 2. You have to go downstairs to reach them. I have not personally noticed an elevator nearby, although I would expect there is an accessible option somewhere in the station. There are escalators, but the ones I've used only travel upward rather than down toward the tracks. Overall, Providence Train Station is convenient, clean, well located, and supported by a very helpful staff. With the renovations underway, I think it has the potential to become an even better station.

The elevators are not in operation right now, so be ready to haul your bags up and down the stairs ... or... wait for the slow elevator to come up. The remodel has moved many things inside for the time being. They still have large screens for train information. It's an easy station to use since there's only two tracks.
