My father's memorial flag & medals have been in a frame for 35 yrs and I was looking to hang it again but the older frame was too large for my wall space. I found Framing by Fred to help me scale down the frame size. They did an awesome job. We are so pleased. We still needed the wide "shadow box" style because the flag is quite thick when folded. I gave them the "jest" of how I wanted his medals displayed and gave them leeway for spacing them within the frame. We also upgraded with the Museum quality, non-glare glass. Extra cost for that upgrade and so happy we did. We are quite pleased with the quality, workmanship & timing to complete the project. Recently, I made a wonderful find here in Punta Gorda. It is Framing by Fred. They are under NEW professional ownership with regular business hours and they are conveniently locating in the Towles Plaza next to Amimotos restaurant. They do magnificent work! I'm so happy I no longer have to drive to Sarasota to get my framing work done. They are very meticulous and perform all work with attention to detail. I have had seven framing jobs completed by Nikki and Joe to date, and they have performed with creativity, professionalism and timeliness on all my work. I cannot recommend them strongly enough! If you are looking for someone who takes a lot of money from you for sloppy craftsmanship, extreme long production times and overly high prices - Fred Framing is the Place that rips you off perfectly well. Do not expect any professional nice work and craftsmanship ! We spent $5000,00 on so called top level framing for top level Art. All Frames, not even after one year, fall apart and are basically junk. One Painting fell off the wall the hook pulled out and the frame broke The only ones who where framed are we :-( This place can definitely be recommended to be avoided. I have to agree with the consensus of the majority here. After reading the one-star review, I should have asked Fred if he has a dual-personality disorder or an evil twin. NOTHING could be further from this reviewer's experience. One-man operations like Fred's are hard to find and have great value. Fred is knowledgeable, experienced, thoughtful, and meticulous. The man who writes up your job is the man who completes the work, no handoffs to be misunderstood by a different employee, and there's continuity from start to finish. Those who have had professional framing done before knowing the value of that. For those who haven't, it means a great deal knowing your valued piece is NOT being handed off to a trainee or some lackey who just isn't invested. Business owners like Fred are 100% invested. I appreciate Fred's advice and input, and while I requested something out of the ordinary (matted slightly heavy on the bottom) Fred made his recommendation, but in the end, he gave me what I asked for. His sense of color-matching seems intuitive and spot-on. Bottom line: I highly recommend Framing by Fred, and suggest others take that one lone negative review with a grain of salt. I was given a watercolor painting of my dog by a friend and neighbor. It's 12" x 18" and I wanted to get a frame for it. I looked on the internet and found this business. I met Fred, who seems like a nice guy. Very friendly and helpful. The least expensive frame that he could make for me was $300. I didn't want to pay that much for a frame, so I left. I have nothing bad to say about Fred, or his business. It was too expensive for me. He seems to have a thriving business and I wish him well. If I knew how expensive his frames were, I would not have gone there. read more

BEWARE OF FRAMING BY FRED IN PUNTA GORDA, FLORIDA. TOTAL RIPOFF AND SHODDY WORKMANSHIP!!!! Gave my lighthouse print to Fred for a new frame. He ruined the look of my print by using a frame that is garbage. It looks like it was pulled from a dumpster. (See below photos) I would never have agreed to this ugly frame. When I asked to see the sample frame upon which I made my decision Fred claimed he no longer had the sample. How convenient for Fred. Also, I am very unhappy with the lack of quality in his work. I have a portrait of my great grandmother from the early 1900's and the original frame broke. I spent months looking in antique shops for a frame but because of the odd shape nothing worked. I searched online and Fred was my second shop to check (first frame shop wanted to use a shadow box), I was losing hope of finding someone who could frame my portrait. I can probably get a slightly better deal off the internet but when I'm in a hurry to get quality supplies Fred's got them...except for my green watercolor paint. What do you do with a special print that you want to showcase in your home? On a friends recommendation, we went to Framing By Fred in Punta Gorda, Florida. Since we were new to this process, our hope was to make the right decisions on framing and mattings to highlight an outstanding print by Marcus C. Thomas, "Shellbirds." What we didn't expect was to have fun in the process. Fred is very patient and enthusiastic about art. Unlike us, who had trouble visualizing the finished product, he could see it all coming together offering a variety of options to create the right 'feeling' to fit into our home. He was very patient during our indecisions while introducing color combinations and textures that we never would have selected on our own. When he called us a day later to say that it was done, we were shocked! Now, with guarded emotions, we went to the shop where he positioned the print just inside the door. We were amazed. Although we agreed to his recommendations, we couldn't picture the end product. We were thrilled. It was exceptional!
