OMG! What a gold mine. My wife and I were out and about enjoying the Charlton Town Wide Tag Sale and came upon Francesco's Italian Bakery. Don't let the size of the place fool you. This place chock full of delicious goodies. My wife purchased a variety of pastries and cookies, from which we sampled. The chocolate chip cookies were so much like my grandmother's cookies. My wife had to go back in to get some puffs for lunch. These bits of stuffed breads were the perfect bite. The lady working there was kind enough to warm them. They have also have gluten free options. The place is open 7 days a week and judging by the amount of in/out traffic they are a local favorite. We will be back to order more. Particularly excited to try their stuffed shells, ravioli, meatballs and sauce. read more

Small shop with a large selection and nice people. However the baked goods... disappointing to say the least we bought 3 items Cannolis were filled with plain cream. Not the traditional mixture. And it was awful zero flavor Cinnamon bread. Was barely sweet abs had very little Cinnamon Cinnamon macaroon again very little flavor. It's unfortunate but the bakery is just not good. read more

This was an unintended visit as we were heading to Hot Dog Annie's and saw the sign. We took a quick detour and found this place. Very clean on the inside, the female associate working at the time wasn't the most pleasant but could've been a bad day. Grabbed some misc pastures and cannoli's and were pleasantly surprised. They even had some cool mini cannoli that were pumpkin flavor and apple crisp flavor (separate flavors). Very good. If I'm in the area again, I'd stop by for sure. We showed up the morning of... to this....and the girl at the desk actually had the audacity to defend this design and told me the characters we requested "were weird". Wow! I went here when I was traveling between Hyannis and Springfield on Easter Sunday, and like many people, and I needed a last minute pie. For a place that was packed with others like me, the service managed to be incredibly attentive and yet effective. The pies turned out to be delicious. So did the gluten free cookies. Hubby had a half day at work today and we decided to order take away (open during the virus) for lunch. He ordered the House Special which was Veal & eggplant Parmesan along with the cheddar broccoli soup and it came with a hank of fresh bread. He enjoyed it all very much. I completely forgot to take pics of the food until we had gobbled everything up. I ordered the chicken Parmesan with a salad and also a hank of bread. The bread was so soft and seemed freshly made. If not, they have a great vendor. I asked for blu cheese dressing and LORDY!! It was delish! I really thought it would be a Ken's steakhouse sort of bottled dressing. If that was a bottled dressing than again they have an AWESOME vendor. All the veg were crisp and delightfully no hard white inner chunks of lettuce as some take away salads are. Not great, I always get a cannoli, lobster tail pastry, and/or ricotta pie when I go to an Italian bakery, because if they make those well, then chances are that everything else will be tasty as well. I don't care about ambiance because I usually take my Pattie's to go. The pastries that I got were not great. They were ok, but nothing to write home about. Service was fine and the person who helped was nice enough. I was excited to try it, but it was a fail. The cannoli tasted pasty versus creamy and it was too sweet. Like most places, I might give it one more try to see if it was an off day or anything has changed since my visit a while ago, but have not yet. Francesco's is the bakery that made me fall in love with Birthday cake. All my life I passed on birthday cake because I hated frosting. I had gotten a birthday cake for someone at Francesco's and everyone was saying how good it was so I decided to give it a try. It was so good, they immediately made me a cake fan (only from REAL bakeries, not supermarkets). Eventually we needed a wedding cake so we went to Francesco's and had a tasting (oh yes!) and they helped us design a cake for the wedding. I've always been spoiled when it comes to good Italian bakeries. Where I lived for the past decade we had a good bakery down the street and if I wanted the best bakery I could hop on a quick bus and train ride and a small walk to get to the North End in Boston and grab pastries from Mikes Bakery. For this reason I have high expectations when it comes to pastries and such. It's a small place with a decent selection. I got a cupcake, baklava, a cannoli and anise cookies. My wife loved the anise cookies and this is coming from someone who is Italian and makes her own. She was beyond impressed. Her cannoli had good flavor but a clumpy texture from the ricotta cheese. My baklava was good but far from the best. I really loved the fact that the cupcakes were made with whipped frosting...I can never find that anywhere. Usually cupcakes are topped with frosting that is so heavy and sweet you can't even eat half of it. The cake part was okay...could've been a little more moist but overall not bad. This is the only bakery around and now that my wife is hooked on the anise cookies we'll certainly be back! read more

I'm always on the lookout for a great bakery no matter where I go. Little did I know this little jewel was right near my house and I never knew. While I'm kicking myself for not finding them sooner, I'm sure my figure is a little more forgiving. This place is ridiculously awesome. I went in today originally to check out some wedding cake prices, but the amount of delicious baked treats displayed in front of me was so enticing. I ended up buying a few cannoli's, a brownie, and a lemon shortcake thingy and they are all out of this world. The cannoli's are the best I've had yet, and I used to have to go to Hartford for my favorite. The brownie is SO incredible. Like best brownie I've ever had. And the lemon shortcake thing? Oh. My. Gosh. SO GOOD. The girl behind the counter was so super nice and patient and attentive. Frank came out to talk wedding cakes with me and he was very nice and helpful, I made an appointment with him and I look forward to it not only because of how pleasant he was but because of how delicious the food was. They made a devoted customer today. I'm going to shout from the rooftops how amazing they are, and this is my first Yelp review. I love their Italian cookies and pastries. Cakes are good, frosting is an oil- based whip. The staff is usually horrible and frustrating. I've been hung up on. The doors have been locked 5 minutes before closing even though I called and told them I was on my way to buy an order for a gathering. I've had friends told that their paid order of 400 cupcakes wasn't made because the counter boy must have put the wrong name on it and he was fired the day before. Poor response and service recovery from the owner. It is tough to stay as a loyal customer with negative experiences like this. The owner really should hire an adult who he can retain for longer than one season. He really needs someone to be the face and brain of his front counter customer service and marketing. The owner is a great pastry chef, but marketing and management is clearly not his strength. Penny wise and pound foolish. I bet he could double his sales with a skilled, stable, friendly counter manager. I hope this place is able to stay open for more years to come. read more

Just stopped by recently and picked up some cannolis, a couple of brownies, and a single serving of Tiramisu. All pastries were to die for, fresh and delicious. Cannoli shells were crispy with a delicious creamy traditional filling (they also have mini cannolis with a half dozen different flavors!), the chocolate brownies were huge, fudgy and satisfying, and the Tiramisu was perfect. I always try the Tiramisu if a bakery or restaurant has it on the menu, and this is one of the better ones! My sister got her wedding cake from this bakery, and that was phenomenal, both visually and taste-wise. That was how I knew of their quality. It's a small place, but their cases are jammed full of yummy things, and it's going to be difficult not to go there every week for some little treat! They also serve subs and coffee, which I haven't tried yet, but I imagine they'll be just as good! An out of the way gem, but well worth the travel. read more
