I recently visited the Franciscan Emergency Department in Crown Point after falling off my scooter. I want to start by saying that the medical staff who cared for me were excellent. PA Shawn was kind, professional, and did a great job explaining everything and treating my injuries. Liz, the X-ray technician, was also very friendly and made the imaging process easy. The front desk staff were welcoming and helpful from the moment I arrived. The bathroom was also clean. However, I was disappointed with the cleanliness of some parts of the emergency department. I noticed noticeable blood stains on the mayo stand and on the floor in my treatment area, along with visible hair. There was also a bug flying around near the patient rooms. In the waiting area, several chairs had noticeable stains. I also noticed a Chick-fil-A cup in a trash can and full trash bags sitting in the emergency department for the entire time I was there. Seeing food containers and accumulated trash in patient care areas gave the impression that housekeeping could be improved. What a miserable experience. Due to upcoming surgery, I wasn't able to drink water for about 24 hours. After the surgery, I was taken to a room where I asked the RN if I could get some water. Her response stunned me. She very rudely and loudly responded "YOU'RE JUST GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT!" After some time, an aid brought in a cup of water, and it was time to get some rest. They hooked me up to a saline pump. After several minutes, the pump alarm started going off, and wouldn't stop. When no one responded, I used the nurse station call button. An aid came in and told me it was because I wasn't keeping my right arm straight and it was putting a kink in the tube. She left, and 5 minutes later, the alarm started again. No one came in, so I used the call button again. When the aid came in, I explained that I had not bent my arm, and asked her how I could turn the machine off myself. She showed me, and left. This happened again, and again, and again. Probably 30 or 40 times over the next few hours. I finally decided to use the call button once more. The person on the other end let out a big sigh of disgust as if I were disturbing her. Finally, a new RN came in, took a look at the situation and discovered that the tube coming out of the top of the machine was bent. Surgery is stressful enough as it is. But when the employees compound that stress, it's just not acceptable. The hospital should be a place of recovery, calm, kindness and peace. I couldn't wait to get out of there! read more

Nina, Katina & Que are excellent nurses!!! They went above and beyond to help me. I really appreciate them and they are the only reason I gave 2 stars. I was diagnosed with a life threatening condition but their nurse practitioner Daniel Cole discharged me still in pain. He said meds should help me even though I was going to the bathroom every 8 minutes. When I left I felt 5% better and I have Anthem Blue Cross Shield Insurance so I wonder how they treat patients with Medicaid. Overall I do not recommend this hospital patients comfort and pain levels are not a priority. The Food was horrible !!! read more

Clean Facility with Friendly Front Desk, but Limited Staff Interaction The signage leading to the main entrance was very clear, making it easy to navigate. The hospital was incredibly clean, which left a great first impression. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. However, as I walked through the hospital, there wasn't much interaction from other staff members--no one greeted me or checked to make sure I was headed in the right direction, which would have been helpful. While visiting my friend, the nurse on duty was fantastic--very responsive, helpful, and answered all of our questions thoroughly. That level of care really stood out and made the visit much more comfortable. Overall, the hospital is clean and organized, with friendly staff at key points, though more consistent interaction from the rest of the team would improve the experience. read more

Lack of communication between Doctor's has been terrible this week. I'm advocating for my daughter who has had many mini strokes. I'm from out of town and absolutely no accommodations, here for 4 day no way to take shower. I've never experienced this before. Also was told they don't even let patients shower. Why spend millions of dollars for showers in every room knowing they would never use them. read more

This place is one of the worst places to receive healthcare from in the Northwest Indiana area. The quality of patient care is abysmal. There is an extreme level of incompetence at every staff level. There is no genuine concern for patients whatsoever. The culture there is one of complete indifference to patients and their needs. It is sad to see such a glowing mission and value statement on their website, but such poor practices in their hostpital and clinic buildings. read more

May 2024 My husband was rushed via ambulance to Franciscan. The new one that opened in January. My husband arrived non responsive at 2:00am. ER Dr Lombardi saved his life! He was very communicative during the process and keeping me up to date on what was happening. My husband ended up staying 5 nights at the hospital. I cannot say enough nice things about the staff at Franciscan. The nurses and the drs are the kindest most compassionate people I have come across. If I needed something for my husband and his nurse was busy someone else would help. It was a breath of fresh air to see a happy staff of nurses that worked with each other and helped each other. This is not a teeny tiny hospital. This is a hospital that touts itself as being state of the art. Yet I arrive today at 3:25 for an outpatient EKG. I was told that "they turn off the machine at 3 o'clock". They offered that I can come back tomorrow during working hours. I have never experienced a hospital of this size that stops doing routine outpatient EKGs at 3 PM. And then no one tells you when you have an order for any EKG that you need to come before 3 PM. I am consistently overwhelmed by the poor quality of service offered by this hospital. read more

Update on to my previous post from when my father was in on 214 2026 called and spoke with a patient advocate. She was very nice. She was very understanding. She said she would get my complaint to the ED department as of yet I have gotten no response from the ED department considering all things I would think the very very least the manager of the ED could do is call either myself or my mother and say something about the way my father was treated, but to me, obviously if the head of the ED department is not even concerned about the way, my father was treated. I completely understand why the nursing staff treated him the way he did or should I say if the nursing staff never treated him because within five hours of being in DD he was never seen by a nurse. While visiting the birthing floor, I encountered unprofessional behavior and a significant lack of communication skills from about four staff members. When I first approached the back waiting room, the elderly lady at the front desk yelled "no!" I was confused and waited for clarification, and she just stared at me until I asked for an explanation. The whole time she spoke to us, it was as if she did not consider her tone or her choice of words. I responded by saying that she could have kindly let us know. Throughout our visit, the staff frequently changed the rules and failed to provide transparent or confident explanations about protocol. In addition, a blondish lady with glasses continuously stared at my family in the birthing area. When my family member asked if there was a problem, they called security. They are disturbingly comfortable disrespecting visitors. In professional settings, such behavior would typically result in disciplinary action or termination. If you are seeking a positive, caring hospital experience, I would not come here. Patients pay too much money to experience this treatment. read more

Went for myself and was sent home still in extreme pain and a week later had to take my 2 year old for her ear and they sent her home with French fry still in her ear. absolutely terrible experience everytime. there's no empathy or compassion from not one person in that place. read more

Horrible place to go if you do not have time or are in real danger this hospital takes forever to treat you and lies about how long tests will take and will keep you there till they come back they told me my test would take one hour I was there for 3 hours and was put into another room to wait. Quality of care is horrible! They are rude, uncaring, incompetent and neglectful of the patients. They caused many bed sores, didn't find a fracture for three days into the hospital stay. The thing that gets me is how arrogant they are. read more
