On the day I visited they had a sidewalk sale set up in the side alley. Ella's is a Dixie Belle Paint dealer. They are also sell antique, vintage, and shabby chic furniture, wallets, Christmas decorations, plants and pots, decorative bottles, funny signs, ornaments, pottery, bird houses, jewelry, vintage cameras, nuts, chocolate, cups, hats, t shirts, toys, honey, candles, jams, jellies, sauces, and dressings. Items can be custom engraved. I loved the delicate bird ornaments and the gift baskets filled with tasty treats. The owners were friendly and chatting with everyone who came in. My story: I downsized....then I downsized....then I downsized... I met a woman at one of my yard sales who was buying for this thrift store. So we (me and my friends / family at yard sale) filled up her van! That was a few months ago. Then 3 weeks ago I called the store and asked if they could pick up some things. They did - they showed up yesterday with a box van and I did a very good job of almost filling it up! The pick up men were incredibly sweet, nice, respectful and profusely thanked me for the donation. I told my 82 year old mother about it and she was beaming! I could have had another yard sale and maybe got some $ - but I feel much better about donating to them. They are doing an awesome job of helping others! They will continue to receive my donations as long as I live in Lake Wales!

The…read morebuilding appears to be in decent condition but the a/c wasn't working properly and the workers kept grumbling about it. Many, if not most of the items were extremely picked over and in poor condition and over-priced. Then, those exact same items were price-tagged in red and were only 50 cents that day. Was that deliberate to sell them or just a coincidence? Also, certain price tag colors had discounts but it depended upon the cashier to determine if they were going to honor that discount or not. They had appliances in bad shape; broken, rusty, and no price tags. On the other hand, many pieces of furniture on the floor appeared to be right out of a store and priced quite high ($150 for one end table) for a thrift shop. Are they new or used? Some were obviously used, others I just couldn't tell. The clothing section was very large and seemed quite poor. Although, a woman before me found a treasure trove of '80s suits someone donated in excellent shape and she bought them all. I'm not interested in them, but it did get me thinking that if one was hunting for things like that, then this place would be one to keep in mind. There was a media room (electronics?, not sure) and books in another area through a doorway, that I did not check out. Only the cashiers were masked. The workers stocking things were masked when we first arrived but soon took them off, and were grumbling about that as well. They seemed to grumble about a lot of things. The biggest problem with this thrift shop is that the loading of purchases and the unloading of donations happen in the same area: the front doors of the store. People show up in very large pick-up trucks with flat bed trailers and park in front of the store and literally block the doors and make the first row of parking spaces very difficult to pull in and out of. Will we come back here? Maybe. Might wait a few months and check this place out again.

I enjoyed shopping at this wonderful thrift store during a trip to Winter Haven. It is located in a…read morehistoric art deco building that Publix founder George Jenkins opened on November 8, 1940 as the first modern Publix. There are pictures of how the Publix looked in 1940 on the wall opposite the checkout. Proceeds from the sale of items benefits the parish ministries which give food to the hungry, shelter to the homeless, and clothing and financial assistance to those in need. All items are donated to the church and then sold in the store. i was really surprised how large this store is. There were multiple rooms of home goods, books, sports equipment, art, small electronics, holiday decorations, and clothing. They even had wedding dresses. I especially loved the vintage room as soon as you enter where I found the Pyrex casserole dishes I adore. Also in the front of the store is a religious section with new items.
