I had an issue with my car insurance, so I stopped by the office. The blonde lady with the glasses and service dog that helped me was rude, unprofessional, and abrasive. If I acted that way towards a customer at work like how she acted towards me, I would have been written up. The entire experience was bad. Also, I tried posting this on Facebook. State Farm had my car towed without my knowledge or consent to a garage of their choosing. They pressured me to use that garage, which knowingly installed the wrong aftermarket catalytic converter in my car. To his credit, Frank at State Farm and his staff are friendly and professional. However they have been totally ineffective at helping me deal with State Farm claims staff who have been neglectful, abusive, and violated their own policies against pressuring their insureds to use mechanics they favor. In November 2020 thieves stole the catalytic converter from my beater 2006 Honda Accord. It came as a shock when the car sounded like a locomotive when I turned the ignition. I had the car towed to my faithful mechanic since the early 1980's, Berkeley Minicar. State Farm failed to activate a claim when we notified them, then stalled for weeks with Berkeley Minicar. Without my consent or knowledge, State Farm had the car towed to a mechanic of their choice. They pressured me to use that mechanic. Their shop said the state Bureau of Automotive Repair had approved the aftermarket catalytic converter they wanted to install. I was worn down from dealing with rude State Farm claims staff who had hung up on me, kept me on hold for 40+ minutes, and I needed to get the car back after weeks of inaction. I gave up and agreed to having the random shop State Farm picked do the repair. That was a big mistake. A year later, I took my Accord to be smog checked. The aftermarket catalytic converter was different from the one the shop had promised. The smog test station listed the emissions system as "tampered"and failed. State Farm took no responsibility for this, denying that they had the car towed, and blamed me. I asked the owner of the shop State Farm had the car towed to to remedy the situation. He was irate and treated me in an abusive manner. Eventually he swapped out the catalytic converter. As a direct result of State Farm's bullying actions, which violated their own policy, I have spent over 10 hours with the DMV, AAA, the muffler shop, the California Bureau of Automotive Repair, and the smog test station. I have changed insurance carriers and filed a complaint with the California Department of Insurance. read more

Seems to be intentionally misleading, maximizes his commission, gives bad service & poor advice I'm stuck being one of Frank Bliss's customers, against my wishes. I live in a condo association, and we cannot change agents without a consensus. I fear one of my neighbors has some secret arrangement with Frank, for he refuses to change agents despite proof we've paid way too much for policies that left us with far too much risk, due to Frank "innocently" or intentionally giving us inadequate advice for our insurance needs. I'm left wondering whether he is ignorant of State Farm's insurance rules or whether he's a crook. And, I fear his bad service is an indication that my neighbors and I will be chiseled out of fair reimbursement in the event of any claim. Frank Bliss won't answer a direct question if it might diminish his potential commission. Frank won't tell my neighbors and me whether floors and staircases are interior fixtures that are excluded from a master condo policy. He'll only advise us to read the vague policy declarations. It seems he'd prefer we pay twice to assure coverage, via both the master and unit policy! For many years we've greatly overpaid thousands of dollars for unnecessarily high insurance levels due to him conveniently failing to explain his insurance product features. We thought our coverage limit was too low, we hired a contractor to give us an estimate to rebuild in the case of a severe catastrophe, and we met with Frank. While he suggested a lower amount, he failed to explain that the limit is much higher than stated because the policy pays significantly more to cover electrical, plumbing, and other improvements required by city ordinance. It also pays a large conflagration benefit when rebuild costs are higher because the entire region suffered, and fire trucks couldn't deploy. Because he didn't tell us why our contractor's estimate was wrong, we also lived with the risk of a huge out-of-pocket 20% deductible. We discussed our deductible-risk with him extensively, having him explain it in detail; but, he never mentioned the existence or the role of our policy's ordinance or conflagration coverage. Subsequently when we discovered the mistake, we asked for a partial refund of the very expensive & unnecessary premium we had been paying. He correctly proved he had [feebly] advised us to go with a lower limit, claiming that he was blameless for accommodating our request against his [either ignorant or intentionally-poor] advice. read more

We met Frank when we were poised to buy our home in Albany and needed a homeowner's insurance policy to complete the deal.
