As a teenager, Cranbrook was my rival, as I went to Country Day for high school! As an adult, Cranbrook is one of my favorite places to walk with my dog all year round. We love coming here to appreciate the House & Gardens, walk around the lake, soak in the architecture & art, and share it all with our family and friends! Every time we come here, we see photoshoots happening (and maybe I have done a few for my dog too in the past) - whether it be senior photos, weddings, family photos, or what - Cranbrook is the perfect backdrop! It's dog-friendly, if you haven't gathered that yet, and the campus is so big that there is so much to do here. Nowadays, we love parking at the art museum and walking over to the House & Gardens and around the lake to the Japanese Garden and just doing that path regularly! It's a fantastic time every time we come here and I hope we can continue doing it for years on end. Thanks for being you, Cranbrook!

I was lucky that a seat at the bar opened up as I arrived. Jane the bartender was extremely busy making several specialty cocktails and called a number of customers by name which was impressive. Eventually she took my order for a Dark Horse local beer on tap which was enjoyable. I reviewed the menu that was on the counter and I was eventually asked if I would like to order something to eat. I had to order my go to, Bill's burger, which is topped with arugula, gruyere cheese, and a Dijon aioli sauce that was exactly what I was yearning for when I decided I was going out for dinner. The burger is also served with a substantial order of fries and everything was well worth the wait and consistently delivered as with my prior experiences. Although I would say pack your patience as it seemed they were slightly short staffed, or just got slammed that night unexpectedly. The effort of the staff while working at a 150% pace and the friendliness to many customers made this an enjoyable evening and it was nice to chat with a few adjacently seated customers. I always find something new and interesting to look at while waiting that I haven't previously noticed, and on this occasion was a fox with a bow tie on the shelf that seemed to be looking at me which is a nod to the Fox & Hound which was previously on this site and damaged by a fire. It is a non-profit organization, always looking for a helping hand. They were closed the other day when I visited. This location is run solely by volunteers, and had no signs with hours of operation. Ah, but during my visit, a couple of the volunteers happened to stop by and gave me information about the organization. I took a brief walk around the well manicured grounds and found that they have a farm museum, carriage house, root cellar, smoke house, summer kitchen, school house and of course, the Wisner Mansion. While I was there, I shot a picture of the historical marker which is prominently displayed close to the roadway. Their next big event is an Ice Cream Social on 26 JUL 2014 and it promises to be a great time. Hours of operation are 11am - 4pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, library included. As time went by, and fewer people met the eligibility requirements, membership was opened to the descendants of pioneers and other residents of the county. Throughout the 19th and 20th century, the Society collected newspapers, books, photographs, manuscripts, and artifacts relating to Oakland County, and the collections were stored in the county courthouse in downtown Pontiac. In 1945 Pine Grove, the Pontiac homestead of Governor Moses Wisner, was purchased as a headquarters for the Society. In 1962 the organization was renamed the Oakland County Pioneer and Historical Society. As part of our mission, the Society continues to devote itself to the preservation of the history and culture of Oakland County, and to maintaining the Pine Grove estate.

They utilized the hospital in most of the attraction, which made the whole experience even more creepy! I went for a private event, but it opened this weekend. I recommend everyone to go check out this historical site. So much has happened here in the past, you can feel the grounds energy as you pull into the parking lot. Looking up at those old windows, you can just feel someone or something peering from one! Go check out Eloise Asylum! The best haunted attraction in the state of Michigan!

And the Federation is a wonderful organization. It provides all sorts of social services to the elderly (low rent housing), people with special needs, people down on their luck, etc. There are also services for new arrivals to the area, like a trial membership to the JCC, and help in connecting with locals. And there are all sorts of social events, from benefit galas, to young professional bar nights. I've found the social events to be very amusing, but I intend to become involved on the charitable end of things if I ever make a living (if they will take money from a lost soul like me). I just hope that they can weather the flight of young adults from Detroit, and the approaching disappearance of the older generation of stalwarts.
