I just want to update my previous review as I received a phone call from the practice explaining about the fact that the pediatric dentist is out of network and the bill got reduced. However, I still think they should let us know beforehand. ........ I went in for my 2 year old son's checkup twice. I paid $519 for the first visit. That was after asking if my MetLife insurance could be taken and when they confirmed by saying yes. I thought the first checkup payment was ok as it might have x-ray cost and such. I asked again when I walked in for the second time with my son; and they said they still took the insurance. I got billed $490 for my son's ~6minutes dental checkup. This dental practice, not letting their customers whether their insurances are in-network or not, yet, still charging hefty amount, is still not acceptable. read more

I am so disappointed with this dentistry. I had been a very good patient awhile back and now 3 years later I get a letter in the mail saying I owe them $70. I had contacted someone this morning and she had told me that she did not know what I was being charged for and was confused as well as to why I had been charged 3 years later. She told me they would give me a call back, but I had never heard back. After 5 hours later around 5:30pm, I had called back and Viola the office manager had picked up and automatically knew who I was and about the $70 I was charged. Looks like she didn't want to give me a call back to help assist. Viola said that she couldn't help because their office managers and front desk they used to have in 2017 had made mistakes and kept repeating that I did not pay, when In fact I had paid for everything that was due when I was there 3 years ago. Why would they not bill me after I visited the office? But out of no where I receive a bill now out of the blue? Not only this, she started raising her voice on the phone and was extremely disrespectful. I can't believe Frank DePaola hired this type of staff, he was a kind man when I had been his patient and his staff used to be so helpful. What happened to that? As an office manager, Viola was incredibly incompetent. Not only this, she hung up the phone on me twice and kept putting me on hold as I was talking. I am extremely upset with their staff. Dr. Frank is professional and a first-rate dentist. His assiting staff is also very good. The office is lovely and the reception staff are nice too. I'll be fair here. Brought my 2-yr old son here for his first dental visit. It was roughly 10 minutes of "counting your teeth", 2 parental tips about brushing I've read elsewhere multiple times, and a fluoride painting that took 30 seconds. It was brief with no teaching or demonstrations for brushing or flossing for him. I was surprised how quickly they said "Ok, we're done." Manner was pleasant and my son was entertained. A toothbrush & a 98¢ toy to finish. Then came the bill... When the receptionist said the words "That will be $230.00", I almost fell over. I said "for those 10 minutes?" She said nothing. Seems she's received my exact response before. I was prepared for $90, $100, maybe even $125. But $230?? I'm sorry, that is simply highway robbery. The appointment broke down into $95 for "oral evaluation" and $95 for "Prophylaxis"... Two things that occurred over about 6 minutes, equating to about $1900.00 per hour. Taking off the cost of the 1/2 thimble full of fluoride at very generous costs estimate $5 of product (which I'm sure only costs them pennies), the fluoride painting that took literally 30 seconds for the remaining $35 charge equates to about $4200.00 per hour. To top this off they said they were not a participating provider with our very-mainstream Horizon Blue Cross insurance coverage. Whether we're reimbursed fully or partially somewhere down the road the pricing is downright criminal. Shop around. Compare pricing. Use Yelp or many of the other services. Call ahead and get exact pricing. You will be astonished the differences Dentists charge for the exact same services. One final opinion: The more I experience the U.S. dental industry the more criminal I find it to be. Any industry that discourages price comparison, doesn't advertise or even hides their pricing, and adds nickel & dime pricing for every add-on justifying additional charges for what should be included in a comprehensive dental exam/cleaning, etc. is more akin to the practices of an extortion or ponzi scheme, a silent mafia. This place fits the bill. $230 for a 10-minute child's checkup? Definitely never going back. read more

I don't typically write reviews but my experience with the office of Frank DePaola DDS & Associates, LLC has been so underwhelming and costly that I am sharing so others won't be taken in as I was. After a fine introduction to the office via a routine cleaning in September, I contacted them after a bout of TMJ for a consult and ideally a new night guard. Long story short, I was sold a piece of gear for $4000 that I was told was going to be covered under my insurance, but that I had to file the insurance claim myself. What I later found out is that they are out of network and had not mentioned this as a likelihood or possibility, and they clearly hadn't looked into my insurance situation or even asked me the right questions before telling me the device was covered. Ok, stupid me for trusting a local health care service provider during a pandemic. This all took a very long time to figure out because even though I paid upfront and requested a proper medical invoice for the device on 10/30/20, they were not able to provide one until 12/18/20. Subsequent attempts to get assistance or even a conversation with Frank DePaola have been met with a whole lot of empty "we don't want you to feel that way" and "we are going to help" and then radio silence on any hopeful solution. Perhaps my experience will help others keep their distance from this practice. Beware Hoboken. read more

I would highly recommend Dr DePaola and his associates. It is clear that they are striving to offer a truely unique experience, one that is vastly different from the one I remember growing up. One that caters to both adults as well as children. The staff is very courteous and knowledgeable. I am certainly not an expert in dental offerings but it is obvious that Dr Frank cares enough to provide current technology and also takes the time to educate you during your visit. beautiful practice and dr.depaola was nice and skilled. however they don't take any insurance and their billing staff kept sending wrong paperwork to my insurance company for me to get reimbursed. It wasted me hours and hours and at the end it's just not worth going there. They are very overpriced. And I am not expert, but I think they are telling you that you have more issues than really are. (I was told I had 3 cavities but went to another dentist and was told i had none). read more

I go here for my cleanings and the staff is always very nice. Today (Saturday) at about 5 o'clock (they're closed) the cap on my front tooth broke off. Tomorrow I am leaving to move to California so I needed an emergency dentist. Dr. Frank called me 10 mins after I left a message with him and took me in right away. He put my tooth back on and had me ready to go in about 30 mins. He knew I was moving and gave me all the recommendations on what I need to do when I find a dentist out there. As he was walking me out he started walking me towards the door. I asked him what about what I owe and he said no charge. I told him I need to do something. His reply was "pay it forward." What an amazing person and I'm sad I don't get to work with him any longer. Thank you Dr. Frank and whoever is reading this. Stop looking and go see them at Maxwell Place. read more

I can not express how dissatisfied I am with this practice. The location is beautiful and the offices were clean but from the moment I sat down in the chair my experience went down hill. The hygienist was unfriendly, she hardly said a sentence to me which is uncomfortable when this person is sitting inches from your face cleaning your teeth. She then called the doctor over. They reviewed my images and files together sitting behind me not including me in the conversation which I felt was rude. They then pushed several different pricy add ons to me that previous dentists have never suggested and I make sure to get a cleaning every 6 months. Then to top it off, prior to leaving they insisted on charging my card $290 and assured I would be reimbursed (I called prior to my visit to ensure they accepted my insurance and they said they do). The next day I called to ask when I can expect my reimbursement and they let me know that they are sorry but they spoke to my insurance again and it actually was not covered. I've now been calling the office of them to reimburse me for the miscommunication and have not received a call back. read more

This office is extremely frustrating. At first they didn't charge me upfront and filed the claim for me with no issues. But after the initial one or two visits they got very hostile with me about insisting I pay upfront and then wait for the insurance to reimburse me and insisted that this was always their policy and somehow I got away with something I shouldn't have. I paid upfront to no longer have to fight with the people in the office and I still have not received anything from my insurance from an appointment several months ago. I am also receiving additional bills from them and am not able to get in touch with anyone in the office to explain the situation. The dentists I have seen are ok but I have had much better care at other practices. The pediatric dentist is amazing and I will miss taking my kids to her but it is not worth dealing with the way this practice operates. They treat you as if they are doing you a favor by taking you as a patient. read more

This is going to sound cheesy, but I have never actually been excited to go to the dentist until I went here. Besides their excellent service, flawless dental work, and jaw-droppingly beautiful office and view, Dr. De Paola always has some cool new gadget that makes the procedure easier or better for the patient. For a geek like me, that's a great thing. Even more fundamentally, in medical ethics, the idea of a patient's "informed consent" is critical. Dr. DePaola (and everyone in the office) takes this responsibility seriously and informs you what's happening every step of the way, with close-up photos before and after if you'd like. They even take it a step further by being entirely transparent about the price of every procedure before they do it. Now that's a true professional. So yeah, in summary, it would be fair to say that I like it here. read more

Care has always been good and the office and equipment is new and very clean. Problem is that this practice runs every bill up. They do extra procedures you don't request and aren't covered (like oral cancer screening which is a look inside your mouth for $50) They sell sell sell extra aesthetic services and cleanings 3 times per year- and the pressure can be a little annoying. Good care - but play defense on your wallet. read more

The office makes you pay your bill up front even if you're insured. They did tell me of this unusual policy until after your appointment. I've had to call their office 3 times for them to submit my claim so I can get reimbursed and 6 weeks later I still don't see the claim has been sent in. The premises are beautiful but you definitely pay for it in higher charges. They also suggested expensive and unnecessary procedures. I was skeptical of their recommendations and got a second and contrary opinion from a dentist in JC. I understand that dental practices need to make a profit but these guys are pretty extreme. I won't be going back. Definitely consider getting a second opinion if you are doing anything beyond a routine cleaning. It saved me a lot of money. read more

This place is amazing. The staff is so sweet. Very clean and just a beautiful place! I had a coupon to do a cleaning, X-rays and exam for $69 and they were so thorough with me. Samantha was the one that helped me with the cleaning and my X-rays. She was so considerate and friendly. Then I saw the doctor and he was so knowledgeable and kind. After months of severe jaw and tooth pain that went misdiagnosed and mistreated with multiple other dentists, Dr. DePaola took ample time to hear me out and perform multiple tests until he got to the root of the problem. His philosophy of doing everything possible before performing any invasive procedures was reassuring and comforting.
