What a hidden gem! Cute winery with both indoor and outdoor seating. A variety of meads and wines across the palate. I did a flight which was about $20 and worth it. I was surprised by some of the more unique flavor profiles but thoroughly enjoyed it. There happened to be trivia going on when I arrived which was neat to see. I'll be back when in the area to try more.

I don't believe I've ever had mead before- this mead wowed my socks off! We seemed to like the classic mead more than the bubbly's. However, the bubbly's were more fruity & still delicious. They did sell some snacks, sold pre-packaged, which was fine by me as I couldn't finish all the crackers. There was only one worker, who was great! He was the tasting room manager, and did a great job telling us all about the mead and answering our 5001 questions. The view and atmosphere was stunning- even at the beginning of March. I'm looking forward to going back through the seasons to sip and relax.

I am shocked. The customer service was awful. Arrived today, 11/15/2024 at 12:30pm. This place was on our way to New England and we were excited to try it. However, the person that was taking care of us was extremely RUDE. When I asked for her to tell me about the establishment she said "what do you mean" and told me when the tasting room opened and walked away to pour the tasting. As someone who frequents different wineries and breweries, I would have to say that the person that helped me (was wearing converse and a grey Tshirt) was just miserable. We were ready to spend money, but that won't be happening. I understand you may have wanted to relax on this early Friday afternoon but you are working. Completely unacceptable. I do NOT recommend. UPDATE: The owner stands by their staff because a "manager" witnessed her interaction with us. What a joke. The "manager" was in the back on the computer......

Oh. my. Orchid Cellar Meadery is a dangerous discovery for my wallet. I'm new to the mead game since moving to the east coast, but the mead here is seriously a game-changer. I came here last weekend with a friend and everything about this place was perfect! The service was fantastic, and they have a beautiful outdoor seating area on a patio and along the grass lawn. There's plenty of room and tables are well spaced out, so it was the perfect day to come out and sip on some mead. I ordered the flight, which came with two of their mead/wine hybrids, a sweet mead, and a spicy mead. Every sip was absolutely delicious, and for me the winner by far was "Monk". This specific mead tastes like liquid honey, but with a kick of high %ABV. The mead itself leaves a great mouthfeel, which I haven't gotten from other meads. I ended up purchasing a bottle of "Monk" to take home because it was just that good! I would absolutely check this place out as it is well worth the drive. I'm also already planning my next trip out here as it is simply the best alcohol I have ever had!

I was very excited to try this place out as we have a bunch of great meaderies back in Wisconsin and I always love supporting local spots. I very much enjoyed the mead, but the experience could have been better. Went on a warm summer day with two friends and my two dogs. It was a struggle to find the few select spots with shade even though there was only one other group outside (they had the one table out on the patio with shade), but we found a great little spot on the balcony with great views. We did a mead sampler, but could only sample SOME of the meads... if you wanted to try other ones not for tasting you had to buy the bottle. I generally try them to see what I would want to buy... so that was a bit disappointing as we didn't want to purchase anything we couldn't try. The "plain" honey mead was phenomenal. We did get to try this one and bought a bottle to share after our sampler. Also tried the smoked peach which I was really excited about but had way too much pepper. The cherry and raspberry had good flavor, but way too syrup-y and sweet. My two buddies are into wine and really wanted to try some wines and take a few bottles home. Couldn't sample the wine... definitely wasn't going to spend the money on a bottle when I couldn't try it, so that was an incredible let down for traveling to a winery's tasting room. Like I said, I really liked the place and we had planned to stay longer and buy some bottles, but decided to move on and try some other spots in the area. That said, the very limited ability to taste/try is the primary reason for three stars, so if you're in the area, definitely stop on by.

Came here for a friend's birthday, and was blown away by the mead! The mead here is really sweet, and they also have meats and cheeses available for purchase if you want to make charcuterie. We also brought some of our own food and my dog! Super pretty area and very serene. I highly recommend getting a flight of the meads so that you can try a few different meads and take in the experience. Will definitely be back!

Dan was a great host! He is organized, informative and very personable for tastings/tours. Our sorority alumni group had a wonderful afternoon learning about the processes, wildflowers and bees. An impressive place with rich history and landscape.

I came here with friends while we were at a nearby retreat center. I have to say, I've never been to a meadery before (and thought my friend was saying "meatery" when I first heard him) but it was cool! Our group of ten went with the flight option. Our host/pourer was very friendly and informative, and he helped us understand differences in production methods for the various meads. I was particularly a fan of Maeve, which is slightly peppery on the front end. Fun place to visit and spend an afternoon with friends!

Beautiful outdoor space, large indoor area. The flight of sparkling meads was delicious! Friendly service.

While typically I'm only a half-hearted mead drinker, Orchid may change my mind. Their meads were tasty...and they had several well priced wines. The wines didn't really blow me away, but I'd definitely try the mead again. I had a chance to speak with the mead-maker, who explained how Poland (his home country) has a long mead tradition which he brought here. The building is only about 2 years old; I think the grape vines are about that same age too. I didn't take great notes, but I did particularly like the 12 Merlot and the "Lumberjack" mead, which was all honey and smoke notes.

I had the classic mead flight and the spicy mead flight. Both were so good!! This was my first time trying mead, so four meads in one flight was the perfect amount. The Scribe was my favorite overall! The bar tender was very friendly too. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing with good music.

This place we thought was more wine than Mead. We have been to only one meadery before but they were all on the sweeter side. The guy that waited on us provided us a big history lesson of the place. He was absolutely amazing. We purchased 3 meads that were on the dryer side. Never thought I'd taste that. This was 1 of the first 30 meaderies in the US. Now there is 600 across the country. Recommend this place. They had all sorts of cool activities going on. Wish we could have stayed. We we're in a rush to try more places out.

Such a peaceful place with plenty of outdoor seating, perfect place to bring a picnic blanket and sit by the small flower fields. My friend and I tried the Flight of Spice, it was fun sampling the varieties, a couple definitely had a strong kick to them! Also got a glass of peach sparkling mead and a bottle of strawberry mead, both were very refreshing. Food is nothing special, we would've been better off bringing our own snacks. Great service and nice secluded place, would love to go back.

He told me Maryland specialized in Cabernet Franc and Viognier and I knew nothing about Big Cork prior to arrival, but dad it was named as a top 10 tasting room by USA Today. Bold claim, especially coming from California. It was an absolutely beautiful day to visit Big Cory on Sunday. U called to confirm I didn't need a reservation, was told I didn't. That was nice, so I continued my drive to the winery, following three other vehicles that turned into the winery grounds. Ample parking, stunning grounds and views of the surrounding area. A big white building with a surround patio greeted me as I walked in, taking in the ambiance of the place. It was busy with patrons sitting outside, standing at mo sitting at the bar. I was greeted by an English chap, names Andy who said he works be right with me. Gave me a few minutes to look around and take in the experience. Andy greeted me and told me to grab any seat. Told him o was new to Maryland wine, as it was my first time at any winery outside of Paso Robles. I guts my expectations were high but I dialed them back as I ordered my tasting flight. Not a big white fan, I was impressed I'm with their Chardonnay, not buttery like the California. It was light, crisp and fruity. A very well done white. In fact I enjoyed it more than the Sauvignon Blanc, which if drinking a white I usually lean towards. Found this a bit too sweet. On to the reds, which is what I was reliably looking forward to. Andy took time to explain each wine, some characteristics and processes behind each glass. Their Meritage, a red blend was okay but was missing something for my liking. I did however enjoy the Cab Franc as single varietal. Never got to the Siberian Ice but was treated to the Syrah, Nebbiolo and Black Label Malbec. Those last two tasting were wonderful. My tastings done, I ordered a glass of the Rose Brut as I took care of Andy and my bill. I did walk out with a bottle of Chardonnay and Cab Franc. Overall a wonderful tasting with some good wines. Worth checking out but being from Paso I'm not going out of my way to find East Coast wines. I know what my palate enjoys but a little change now and then can be a good thing. If I get t girlfriend out, we will be back.

Once I learned where we were going I was sooooooo excited!! Anyhoo- about an hour and a half away- we ventured here on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I really don't like going out on Valentine's Day. Everything's usually overpriced and restaurants are crazy busy...I honestly prefer just to stay at home but my hunnie had other plans for us hahaha! Despite the snow that's still lingering, turned out to be a perfect day for a winery adventure. Beautiful scenic views of the mountains, a playlist of Teena Marie, Sade and auntie Nita was definitely giving amazing vibes...the company of my Superman...just a perfect day! We had a reservation which is recommended. Our reservation was in the heated tent, outside area where they had live entertainment and he was pretty good! Sang a variety of selections. What I didn't like was there was no wait staff. I guess EARLY Mountain spoiled me! Hahaaaa!! I was expecting the same kind of experience here- but nonetheless we had to place our orders at the bar & pretty much wait on ourselves lol Typically-I was told they offered cheese and fruit plates- but today they didn't....:/( They did have a selection of cheese, crackers, olives if you wanted to create a board of your own... They also have a cigar area and offered cigars if that's your jam... Also noted in some areas they allow for you to bring your pets... On to the flights- wanted to try a few before deciding on a bottle so I went with the dry white option and my boo thang opted for the sweet options. The flights include a selection of 3 wines for $22...I was ok with just my 3 and my love actually enjoyed the port dessert wine which was the third tasting on his flight so I purchased a bottle for him. Appreciated the pizza Big Cork offered. We shared a pizza and ordered some fries from the food truck that was on the grounds. Would I venture back here NOPE! But I'm glad I can finally check this one off my list. Happy Valentine's Day!
