This is my all time, absolute favorite bar in Frederick. I almost wanted to refrain from saying that to avoid it getting too packed but this place definitely deserves the attention. I always make sure to stop by whenever I'm in Frederick. The ambiance is like a dim light basement, a clean and moody aesthetic with bar seating and couch seating. It does get loud in there and I think that's because the sound of everyone's voice just bounces against too many hard surfaces. Nonetheless it's super cozy and my favorite spot!! The drinks are all fantastic. They make their own organic distilled liquor and on top of that they away have seasonal drink selections. I go there wanting the same drink but also try something new and it never disappoints! They craft their cocktails with love and care and really put effort into a delicious well rounded cocktail. This is my go to spot for gin, I'm not even a gin drinker but I am now because their gin is amazingly smooth. I can't say enough great things! read more

Popped in on a whim and didn't regret it at all. The ambiance was great right from the start. It's modern, comfortable, and has really great aesthetics. It's a relaxed, welcoming spot and a perfect place to hang out for a bit. The staff was amazing, super friendly, and really knowledgeable about everything they offer. The tasting was great and gave a good feel for their lineup. I really liked that they use locally sourced ingredients across a variety of their spirits. You can tell there's a lot of care put into what they're producing. Definitely recommend stopping in. Afterward, head over to their bar next door and try a cocktail made with their spirits. Stopped by on a whim while in the area. The parking lot is a little cramp just an FYI. The tasting room is spacious and has a nice bar top. We had the pleasure to meet Todd who was our server. This guy was out of the park amazing. I love when you get to meet people who relocated and can give insider tips on where to go l, but still can connect from a shared location. They offer a few whiskeys a vodka and 4 or 5 gins. One whiskey was awesome and I bought it. It was the matchstick. We also picked up a gin, which isn't really a gin but it's fantastic in mixes. It's called Gardners gin. Get some of that and experiment like Todd told us. This place also has a bar in another building which is very cool and has plenty of seating for an old brick building. We stopped by after the Christmas parade to grab a couple of drinks, and the place was packed. There was nowhere to sit, but despite the crowd, the atmosphere was still welcoming and lively. It was definitely loud, and when you first walk in there's a slightly sweaty smell, probably just a byproduct of a full house, but honestly, it was warm inside, which was a plus on a cold night, so no real complaints from me. The drinks were the real highlight. We ordered a Spicy Spire Margarita and the Ideal Old-Fashioned, and both were exceptionally well made, balanced, flavorful, and clearly crafted by people who know what they're doing. Easily some of the better cocktails we've had in a while. The bartenders were also pretty cool, friendly, efficient, and handling the crowd well without losing their chill. Overall, a great stop for strong, well-crafted drinks and a fun, energetic vibe, especially after a big local event. Would definitely come back (maybe just earlier next time!). read more

We had an absolutely fantastic experience in their tasting room! We were a very large group and Todd was an exceptional guide--- so knowledgeable with such an interesting presentation. The McClintock Distillery is the first organic spirits maker in Maryland. So much interesting history. We tasted at least 10 different bottles of spirits, from whiskey to vodka and gin. The quality is exceptional. I especially liked the Forager Gin. We were all seated at the bar, and the ambience of the tasting room was great-- cheerful and very comfortable, great vibe. There was also a wedding going on at the same time, so we didn't get to see that section of the distillery. All in all, it was such a fun experience and I would highly recommend it. read more

The atmosphere alone is worth the visit; it's got that classic old-distillery vibe, but inside a clean, modern building that feels both nostalgic and fresh at the same time. We sat at the bar for a tasting, and our bartender was fantastic. Not only was he extremely knowledgeable about their spirits, but he also guided us through the entire tasting with great explanations and recommendations. He even suggested a few spots in town to check out afterward, which we really appreciated. As for the spirits themselves, we were seriously impressed. The vodka was smooth and clean, and the bourbon had incredible depth and character. We liked both so much that we ended up buying a bottle of each to take home. My girlfriend brought me here for one of their tasting experiences for my birthday but sadly we didn't get to participate. She called a few times to confirm they'd be open and available, but when we arrived there was a private event so the tasting room was closed. They must've booked after she called so there's not much that could have been done but it was still disappointing. The bartender in the bar (Brie) was very kind though and walked us through a little tasting of our own! The cocktails were very strong and they had some nice seasonal stuff on the menu. OMG......AMAZING!!!!! Friends recommended we stop in and try their gin.......their recommendation was spot on. This place is a gem! There is the distillery and tasting room and then they have the Back Bar for cocktails. We visited both, and I will review the Back Bar seperately. The distillery and tasting room is in a historic building that was formerally a garage. We were greeted right away and directed to the bar for a tasting. Tastings are $5 and that is credited back if you purchase something. You can taste their full offerings.....rye, bourbon, vodka, gin and liquors. Everything is organic. They also have an assortment of shrubs. We tried it all!!!!! And I seriously liked it all. They have 3 varieties of gin- each unique with an amazing botanical mix. I am a gin girl, these gins are perfect! The rye is made with red rye. Melissa helped us with our tasting and she is WONDERFUL! So personable and knowledgeable. I loved learning about the history of the disterilly and the care that goes into each of the spirits. We will be back!!!!! Their gin is one of the best, seriously something you can just sip on and makes a fantastic dry martini There's no food here so don't come hungry, but if they have excellent, approachable spirits with friendly staff who are eager to lead you through a tasting with all sorts of suggestions for using their products. I tried McClintock spirits at festivals and farmer's markets all around Maryland, but I'd never been to their actual location. After lunch at Bushwaller's I came here for a tasting and happy hour cocktail. Despite a sloped (downhill) entrance, the space is bright, airy, and welcoming. The staff was great! Super knowledgeable and kept me engaged the entire time I was there. I really enjoyed most of their selection; all of their whiskey was good and their vodka is the most inoffensive (definitely a good thing lol), I've ever tasted. If you like gin, theirs is top tier and don't get me started on the seasonal cordials *chef's kiss.* After doing a full tasting of all of their items I headed over to their bar area to order a drink. The menu is really imaginative and creative; there were some unexpected flavor combinations. I ended up ordering a gin-based drink that was both interesting and delicious. Wonderful local distillery that does the best vodka you'll taste. That's not my opinion, their vodka has been voted as the best vodka in the USA. Yeah it's pricey, but the missus likes it. As for me? I do not recommend doing this but despite our bad timing the staff here still let us come in and do a tasting! Everything we tried was so good and they even ended up giving us a tour of the distillery and explaining all the steps that make the product what it is! The owner was actually the person who did our tasting and tour for us super nice guy! We ended up getting the forager gin,the white whiskey, and chai pear mix in. A friend of mine recently turned me on to the Forager Gin from McClintock Distilling. It's quickly become one of my favorite Gins! I recently placed an order online for curbside pickup for two bottles of Forager Gin - to give as gifts to two of my Gin-loving friends. I placed the order, selected the option for curbside pickup - and then received a confirmation e-mail - stating when I arrived, that there was no need to call, just show up. So I made the 45 minute drive from Haymarket, VA to Frederick, MD and parked fairly close to the door. There are no signs outside about curbside pickup - so I waited in my vehicle for about 15 minutes. No one came to check on me. So I called the phone number in the e-mail - the call tree shunted me to an operator option - where no one answered the phone (I called three separate times to try again). So I donned my mask and went inside. A young lady came up to help me - I told her I had ordered online for curbside pickup. She retrieved my order - and I asked how the curbside pickup was supposed to work? Coming inside to fetch my order is not "curbside." She responded that I could call - I advised that I did 3 times, she mentioned something about having phone system problems. I love a good COVID-19 story, don't you? So there was a virtual Yelp-Elite outing at McClintock's on April 23rd (thanks, Braeden!) and we got to learn about their hand sanitizer efforts during the current quarantine. Now Frederick isn't exactly around the corner from me, but my son needed some more time behind the wheel with his Learner's Permit and a 45 minute drive to Frederick was just what the doctor ordered. First thing, their hand sanitizer is 70% alcohol which is a bonus. Second, you can buy it in absurd amounts...like gallons...no joke. So, of course, you can't go to a distillery and not buy some distilled beverages. So, of course, we did. Here is where it got weird. The drinks I had the highest expectations of, were the most disappointing and vice versa. So........high expectations were for the Blood Orange Saffron Cordial. Cordials are generally defined as a sweeter (almost dessert-like) beverage. When I opened this bottle, the first smell that blew out of this bottle was vinegar...like tear-inducingly strong vinegar. The flavor was eye-poppingly strong and needed a 1:1 ratio of simple syrup to make it tolerable. I'm hoping that I can drum up some kind of mixed beverage that I can use this for. Next up was the Gardener's Gin. Veeeeery nice. This makes a really really lovely gin & tonic. It's smooth and airy and really the whole beverage together. I recommend this gin very strongly. And finally...the No Cover Hop Infused Single Malt Whiskey. Now I'm a single malt whisky guy (Scotch primarily) so I think I'm a palate snob when it comes to this stuff. Well, guess what...these McClintock folks know what they're doing. This beverage is smooooooth. It's got this lovely hop afterglow to it that just stays with you for a minute after each sip. I just sit there with my eyes closed enjoying the lingering taste. I could easily drink this every day for the rest of my life. I hope this isn't a "limited time only" beverage like its sister version over at the One Eight called, Spirit in the Stone (no longer available). While this place is kinda far for me, I'll definitely be going back to see what it's like when we can go in (I hear that they have FIVE dogs!!!). In the mean time, I'l just keep ordering curb-side delivery. read more

I've had the good fortune of having McClintock Distilling 's Reserve Gin during a dinner at The Wine Kitchen and have been wanting to experience more of what they make. I easily booked a reservation for a tour and tasting. Alex, who helps manage the place, was an excellent guide and graciously answered all my nerdy questions with care. The brand offers three whiskies, three gins, and two liqueurs. I will say that the Husker expression was the top whiskey but all were fine. The gin is where they shine and you can't go wrong with any of them. The spiced pear liquer was unique and the coffee liquer was potent. Very great facility. They have a bar I would love to check out one day. It's also near a lot of cool eateries and such. I will certainly head back when they offer new products. read more

Prior to entering there was a little table outside that was selling something ( read on) When we entered it was buzzing with conversation, laughter,& music! The folks were very friendly, liquor tends to make people smile! There were various vendors around the room, as well as a live band! We made our way to the bar,& get set up for a tasting! The bartenders were very knowledgeable about each product! They introduced each spirit to us, informing us how it was made! The !!! White Whiskey!!! The reason for my trip! It was soo smooth an amazing! I swear it's like drinking water!! ( you have been warned) The Vodka!! I swear that was water in the bottle! There was no smell, no burn going down!!! If your the type of person that has to taste your liquor when you make a drink.. ** no need here** The Bourbon!!! Which was labeled by hand the day before by one of the owners mom! she's so cute! S/O to mom!! The Gin- ( I did not drink) my dad said it was GOOD!!! Really GOOD! With the taste on the back end! Due to some weird law you buy your mixer outside and then go inside and they give you a shot of liquor to put in your drink... There is no misunderstanding of how much liquor your getting per drink!!! Ahaha They have an open floor plan which is great event space! They have a resident dog Rider! He was very friendly, even brought me his squirrel to play! The Vendors, were Type Write poets! You give them a topic and they write a poem for you on old style paper via a type writer, ohhh the nostalgia!!! There was a hand press coaster machine, where you can make your own coaster! This is def not your typical distillery, it's modern, youthful at the same time classic! It's family oriented Mom hand inks the bags! Dad helps out mom to label the fresh bottles! Nothing like knowing your whiskeys was bottled recently! I really enjoyed the space the people and the vendors! If you have not made your way here then you should! Grab a few friends and make the trip! It's only about an hour away from DC, and well worth the drive! You never know you may see me there, I'm already planning my next trip! I always have a great time every time I visit. Tyler and Braeden are simply amazing hosts and they make a damn good product. I don't drink gin (juniper...blech!) but after attending one of their tastings, they made me a very happy convert (and they even taught me how to infuse my own!) Well... that's not totally true. While I still love my Bourbons and whiskeys, I have definitely added their Reserve gin (finished in Hennessy XO barrels), to my home bar. They also sell an impressive variety of Bitters and cocktail shrubs (which are vinegar-based cocktail mixers). I used to bartend, and I always find a variety of wonderful new things here to take home and try. (Gotta keep my martini skills sharp!) Pro-Tip: You can also add olive oil and dried herbs to the shrub to make your own delicious salad dressing. You're welcome. :) The distillery is right at the entrance to Downtown Fredrick, and a short walk from numerous cafes, bars, shops, and restaurants. There's a pretty good amount of nearby street parking, as well as a parking garage less than a block away. It's a great place to host parties, weddings and other events (I came to a zombie-themed Halloween party last year and had the best time!). The staff are not only incredibly knowledgeable, but they're the nicest people ever, and make you feel right at home. If you're ever in Frederick, you definitely must stop by. read more

This place has great customer service. I give it 12/10 for all the good reasons! Spent 10% drinking, 90% rolling around with their two friendly doggos. The friendlier and fluffier of the two is Moose and will likely greet you at the door. The other floof is Ryder who is also very friendly but you'll likely find him sleeping. But back to the drinks! My group had a tasting for NINE drinks! There were a lot of very tasty drinks but most were quite spicy. Bartender (didn't catch her name) was very friendly and knowledgeable. Great tasting room experience at McClintock Distilling! We tried just about everything during the guided tasting: Whiskey, Bourbon, Vodka, Gin, and Cordials.... you name it we tried it. I think my favorite was the Matchstick Whiskey. Our guide was very knowledgeable and made the tasting entertaining. We also were offered a tour of the distillery but had to pass as we were on a bit of a time crunch for our dinner reservations. The tasting room had a really nice vibe and decor to it and was in a great location as well.
