My group had a great experience at the Franklin Street Inn! We stayed up in the renovated attic room and there was plenty of space for our group of 5. This room is likely suited for a honeymooning couple, but the 5 of us enjoyed the space and privacy from the rest of the Inn. The owners couldn't have been nicer or more helpful and their breakfast was really great! Plus, they were alums of Miami University, just like 4 of the 5 of us. We enjoyed chatting with the owners and sitting out on the porch during a rain storm. We did have trouble figuring out the lock system, but the owners promptly helped us out with that. The Inn is within short walking distance of Lawrence, a beautiful little liberal arts college, and the downtown Appleton area with shops and restaurants. If I ever find myself in Appleton again, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Franklin Street! read more

My wife Jenny and I stayed at the Franklin Inn for our 23rd wedding anniversary on Sept 6th 2015. This place was GREAT! Everything was perfect for our romantic stay! Judy, the owner and host, knows how to do it up right! Furnishing are Victorian and shows a warmth to guests as they pull up and enter the house! We stayed in the Franklin suite that has an oversized bed and a beautiful HOTTUB for 2! They served us breakfast in our room too! At under $200, the price was right for our budget! We stayed overnight with a bunch of friends and booked the murder mystery. The owner was pushy, bossy, overbearing, and intrusive. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, it was all about following her rules and requirements. Forget about privacy or fun if you want to stay here. Our group paid about $1100 to her for one night, yet she acted as if she was doing a gigantic favor let us staying there and appeared upset that all of us didn't go to bed at 8:30 on Halloween Saturday night. We had friends in town who weren't staying there and invited them to have a drink & visit back in the room, but she prevented them from entering as they "weren't registered guests" even though they paid and participated in the murder mystery. She even grabbed a book and sat outside the room to make sure they didn't come back. Murder mystery was disorganized and confusing to execute. Save your money and buy a game off the internet. We are easy going people who have never posted negative internet feedback, but I signed up for Yelp just to register our dissatisfaction. Avoid this place unless you are truly desperate and plan to do nothing but eat and go to sleep at 8:30. read more

I visited this inn as a Lawrence alumn planning a reunion. The location is convenient to both the college campus and many restaurants in downtown Appleton. My room was quite satisfactory, although I can only give four stars because of the many gotchas like: $10 for breakfast, no accepted credit cards, etc. Apparently this business offers different services based on room rate. I prefer to support small local businesses, and will happily return to the Franklin Street Inn...but will be extremely clear about what is (and is not) included in my room rate. read more

I spent a couple nights here recently and enjoyed it for the most part. The place is very clean and well maintained. The breakfast was great and the owner was open to dietary restrictions. The owner however was a bit uptight, which got on my nerves at times. They have two houses, which are very nice, but not stunning. The location is excellent, just a couple blocks from Lawrence University and downtown. read more
