I went out there unsure of what I was going to see, but I did have a preconceived idea that it would be some big store on a farm. My idea was the furthest thing from the truth. To be quite honest, I thought my GPS was wrong, because all that we saw was some older run down buildings and a bunch of random cars parked nearby. Let me tell you how glad I am that we proceeded and walked inside. Now when I say that MooMa's (the actual store) is small, it truly is. They have a great selection of local food items like honey, jams, pasta noodles, milk, etc. The one thing that threw me though was the two smaller "ice cream freezers" that had frozen beef and pork. I prefer fresh meat over frozen any day, but I was willing to give it a shot. I loaded up on burgers, brats, and Italian sausage, but I did ask about fresh meat. They told me that they dry age all their beef, so if you let them know ahead of time before you go, they will cut it and have it ready for you when you arrive. Talk about customer service! That right there made this a five star establishment. I'll say this too, we cooked the frozen burgers and they were amazing. Not one of us could tell that they were frozen, which again backs my five stars. I'm not quite sure who the gentleman that came out of the office was, or the lady that he was with, but those two and the older gal working the store were the best. I'll drive here any day to buy my meat before going to a chain grocery store. Thank you Hunter Cattle!

Out of six or seven available varieties, we chose the Farmhouse Garlic - partially on the recommendation of the very helpful Hunter representative, but mostly cos both I and Mrs I love garlic :) The jerky is absolutely fantastic. It's tender, comes across as moist even though it has obviously been dried, and the garlic is such a fresh note that you really get to appreciate the heat that garlic can possess. I don't want to call it spicy - it's not like a jalapeño or anything like that - but it's a crisp, fresh heat like you get from a good peppercorn. I highly recommend it, and I'll be sure to give their other products a whirl as well.

I went here looking for vegetable starts and seeds. It's good for both. Selection is more a…read morelimited variety and more like commercial staples that grow well in the region. Not much hippie type or permaculture stuff and not a huge variety. Plant starts: They have some 6 packs of veggie starts, which is way cheaper than little individually potted ones. Lowes in town has individually potted veggies and herbs for $6 each. Meanwhile, here you can get a 6 pack of starts for $6. That's what I'm looking for. The convenience of starts over seeds, for a little extra cost, as opposed to a big extra cost everywhere else in town. Selection was not super good. Maybe 1 kind of cherry tomatoes (sweet 100s or something), 2 kinds of regular tomatoes, 1 kind of beans in the 6 packs. It's several different kinds of veggies, but after you get to lettuce, or to broccoli, there will only be one kind of lettuce starts. Seeds: If it's something grown by the acre around here, the price is right. They have big containers of Clemson spineless okra and all these kinds of beans, and you buy by the pound. They have preweighed seed packs, and prices on packs start under a dollar for the weight. Beyond bulk seeds, there is about nothing. Sometimes independent feed stores will stock displays of seed packs, but this store does not have about any. I was looking for malabar spinach seeds and that kind of thing. There's nothing like that. For seeds for the permaculture stuff and things that aren't commercially grown (ie. don't transport well), you gotta find a seed catalog to order from online. Fruit trees: They have some fruit trees and flower plants and stuff. These seem kept well, but not a great selection. Southernscapes in Statesboro probably is better about that because it has a bigger selection. It has plenty of other feed store stuff, like bulk supplies for livestock and farming. Basically, it's a traditional feed store with some cutesy stuff for home gardening. It has posted hours, but a lot of the time when I get here, they closed early and have a signed taped to the door that says they closed early at noon instead of 5pm for the day. Probably call ahead if you are coming from out of town. This is a good place to check out if you are new in town, since it's got the variety and quality you would expect from a good feed store.

We heart The Farm at Oatland North!…read more Located at the beginning of the driveway to Cannon's Point Preserve (another great spot), on your right, is a dirt road leading to a wonderful sanctuary for animals! Open every Sunday, 2-4pm, or by appointment. I was so missing "The Farm" the Sunday after my trip to the Golden Isles this year. I visit animal sanctuaries frequently, and they are all wonderful, but this place was especially magical to me. Really positive energy and happy hopeful souls. These are such deserving, but also lucky animals who get to find their forever home at The Farm at Oatland North. Here you will find a bunch of horses, donkeys, pigs, goats, and cats. Dogs have lived here (and probably other species too), but currently those mentioned are the animal residents. You may feed the animals but please make sure you ask volunteers who may eat what. A senior woman was going around with sugar cubes ignorant of (or not bothering to care about) the fact that one of the horses has a heart condition, among other health concerns in other animals. The white donkey, Wonkey, who walks around to meet people, has lost nearly all his teeth, so we made sure to have cooked carrots mushy enough for him not to choke. The volunteers told us that the week before so we took note, but others were just trying to give him anything. If you truly want to show care toward these animals, please think through the foods you give them. The ASPCA offers a whole list of foods toxic to horses, cats, dogs, etc. take a look before you bring foods. Avocados, grapes, onions, and citrus are just a few foods that are completely toxic to most animals. We met volunteers, Sally, Diane, and Leanne, and they were so kind and engaging. Often volunteers at rescues and sanctuaries are kind, but usually preoccupied with all the work they are doing. Not these ladies! They sat and talked with us in the Adirondack chair circle for a good 20min on Christmas Eve, and we saw Sally and Diane again on New Year's Eve, just as friendly and sweet. Our first visit, Sally took us around and gave us backstories on most of the animals. She taught us a lot of horse facts too (my kid now wants a horse). Second visit, we met two of the pigs' "mom" who raised them in her apartment when they were piglets. All of the volunteers have hearts of gold, and I told them I have never felt such calm and loving animals as I did here (and we visit a LOT of rescues, sanctuaries, zoos, etc). We could not have been more impressed with the love and trust between humans and animals at this farm. The horses loved our 8lbs of apples. Diane had a core-er in the office, and gave us a feed bucket to put slices in, which really made feeding easy. Sally had explained we need to use our voice to call Tex over because he's blind. My son loved being patient and using voice to call him over. Tex would paw at the ground for another apple slice. The horses were so excited for the snacks because visiting time is always before dinner served at 4 when everyone leaves. Anything visitors bring are well-loved hors d'oeuvres! The cats are all so loving too. They all look super healthy, but we made sure to wash our hands before going home to our own kitties (we take our kitties to GA), because you can never tell if a cat has FIP, a coronavirus that can be latent in some carrier cats, and deadly in others (I lost a cat to FIP). So pat and enjoy these kitties for sure, just do a COVID-style soap and water scrub before touching your pets at home. This is our 4th year visiting Jekyll and we just found out about "The Farm" even after visiting Cannon's Point our first year! We played a lot of outdoor activities - it was a hot day and not too crowded. Sadly Poppell was a no go for the 2020 pumpkin season, but we still took advantage of them for Christmas trees! We got a tree and a wreath! Trees come in varying sizes. They have different colored tags to denote how tall the tree is. Their wreaths come in different sizes too! This will be our first wreath ever!

Your kids will love this experience because of all of the activities. They had 2 giant jumping…read moreballoons (like 20 yards wide and 30 yards long) for kids 6 and over and then the other one for kids 6 and under. A few of the things we enjoyed were the pony ride ($7) for our toddler, the cow ride, their muscadine apple cider, the ride out to the pumpkin patch, and of course the petting farm. The petting farm gives you the opportunity to feed the animals in their stalls, which little kids love. And adults. They have a lot of little activities/play areas for kids here. I would say they had around 20+ activities total, to include music, food, a fishing area, and pumpkin patches. The pumpkin patch isn't your traditional pumpkin patch, but all of the pumpkins are included in the $15 price. It's 1x pumpkin per wrist band and the pumpkins are small to medium sized. The farm takes a bunch of pumpkins and puts them out in a field. This is likely safer though, because of snakes, spiders, and who knows what else that lurks in pumpkin patches in the country. We didn't get a chance to do the haunted trail for an extra $5, but I bet it's a lot of fun. The weather was a perfect 72 degrees up until 1 o'clock and then the sun turned on. Getting there at 10AM when it opens is definitely worth it.

The gravel road into it was blocked off, and instead there was a dirt road full of humongous potholes, filled with woodchips! I've never driven slower in my life....what the heck? There was a long line to get down this road....then when we get to the parking lot, after 10 minute down the drive, the parking lot is full. Probably 100 cars driving slowly around the parking area, hoping someone will miraculously leave, and hoping you're in the right place at the right time. There were no employees in the parking lot directing anyone. So rather than a corn-maze, we spent literally 30 minutes in a parking-lot-maze, trying to get the heck out of there. I understand people probably swarmed the place, due to the covid lockdown we live in. But we promised our two-year-old pumpkins and goats. Instead she got 2 hours in her car seat, and a trip to Walmart to get a pumpkin and a toy, for being so well-behaved during this waste of time. If the owners read this, I would advise the following: 1) get a proper road (gravel is great, not potholes and woodchips) 2) build a larger parking area 3) have some employees out there directing traffic 4) if you're over-capacity, turn people away at the main road!! I wish the owners success in their venture. Business owner myself. But I guarantee, we will not be back.

We were the first party in there for dinner and were seated in one of the many dining rooms in front of a window overlooking the porch. Shortly after being seated and getting our drinks we were served our dinner family style. We had dishes with fried chicken and barbecue chicken, black eyed peas, cabbage, mashed potatoes, gravy and biscuits. Everything was good, but nothing was particularly special. It was a good meal and a good price. Our service was excellent and we were quickly offered refills on anything we finished. The star was definitely the ambiance, it was such a beautiful old building!! I will definitely visit on my next visit!!!
