I know these are vegan hotdogs so my standards were not set too high before trying them. There is really not much to say other than the fact that the sausage itself tasted bland and the texture was completely off. There was really no "casing" and the texture of the faux meat was like a soggy meatball. There was just no chewy, rubbery goodness at all. It was like eating mashed potatoes in a sausage shape. I'm not sure why this place is so highly rated but it was a no go for me. The bread was also on the thick side compared to the sausage so I ended up having to pinch pieces of bread off. Hanging out in the area one day just walkin my dog with a friend... Yelp brings this cool looking place up.. and it actually shows VEGAN. I'm like... what?! They have chili, all sorts of different TYPES of dogs.. and fries.. you name it. For a Vegan Dog shop, these people know what they are doing! I got a Banh Mi dog. I have to admit... in the beginning.. I did not feel quite satisfied. Now I eat plenty of turkey, fish and chicken... no red meat. I was a vegetarian for over 25 years before switching to vegan. I got used to not eating meat and that was ok with me, but as a result I do not really like vegan meat. I'm around 6 in and only once have I had one that was meh to me. It's around 10 bucks to get a meal of dog, fries, and a drink. Not too bad for a tasty lunch. If you like hot dogs like I do, then I'd give it a shot. Go on a Sunday and you'll get a free beer. That should be enough to get you there. They have a small selection on vegan hot dogs a few apps and a couple sides to choose from. I ordered the Chicago Dog to see what a vegan take would be like. The presentation of the dog looked the a true Chicago Dog minus the bright green relish. After the first bite, well that's where it all went wrong, the dog had a hot dog shape but was very mushy and bland and someone was very heavy handed on the celery salt. I love this place! They make their own vegan dogs & the owner is always there. The Chicago dog is my favorite. It's better than the vegan Chicago dog I get at Frank downtown. If a food truck has product better than a brick and mortar restaurant with the same food, you know it's truly a standout. They have a quarter of the space and a tiny fraction of the manpower. My only gripe is I wish they were open during lunch hours! I eat a little later than their normal AM hours. They close in the middle of the day for a couple hours. Financially I'm sure it makes sense & employees need their breaks! While living in Seattle for the last 10 years, my husband and I frequented (and adored) a little food cart that sold spruced-up vegan hot dogs and sides. So, when we discovered something similar could be found in Austin, we checked it out as soon as we were able. Our reaction? Four thumbs up! (That's two from each of us, of course.) The highlight, in my opinion, is the "house made" vegan hot dogs. They're tender and well seasoned and serve as a delicious base for the creative toppings Doggie Style's owners generously dollop on top of them. Speaking of those toppings, I have to imagine there's something for everyone at this particular food truck. I went with the Jon Stewart (dog + sauerkraut + Russian dressing) and happily gobbled it up, while the hubs chose the 313 (dog + chili sauce + cheddar sauce + onions) and loved it nearly as much. We also shared an order of queso fries and coleslaw, with the latter being the only disappointment of the evening. Don't get me wrong, it's tasty (for a vinegary slaw), but it's barely cheaper than the fries--which are mind-blowingly amazing, by the way--and as such seems like a not-so-great value in comparison. I've honestly had better vegan hot dogs from HEB! they're really massive hot dogs too, so it really ended up being a waste because I couldn't swallow more than two bites.
