In search of a good donut this morning and have been hearing many reviews of greatness from Frank's. I came in about 9:45 am and there was one person in line ordering their donuts. There was some inventory overflow and no seats taken but it's a homie spot. The variety of donuts on display did not fill the case completely but the menu showed a vast variety. I didn't see any blueberry cake (top 3 in donuts I love) so I chose one I've never heard of - vanilla coconut custard bar. I also love a good coconut donut and who can ever pass up a custard filled bar?! Not me! Typical bar donut but topped with vanilla icing & coconut flake stuffed with vanilla custard. First bite was delectable and sweet. I plowed through that donut in just a few greedy bites and wish I had ordered more. Next time around I will give the old fashioned and a cake donut a try. read more

I have been going here since I was a kid, it's been a few since I've been though and it wasn't a great visit. The man working there was very nice and friendly. We got a maple bar, apple fritter, and a scone of sorts. The maple bar was fine. The Apple fritter only tasted of grease/oil and was quite dense. The scone was the worst, it was almost burnt... like that place where it tastes bitter like burnt but is a dark brown. Both the fritter and the scone mostly ended up in the trash. This was such an unfortunate visit and perhaps an off day. read more

Decided to do a side by side comparison of Franks & Kolby's, here are our thoughts: Only tried 2 donuts, glazed cruller and maple bar. Both locations the price was exactly the same at $3.50 for 2 donuts. Franks cruller was taller and had more glaze. This made it a bit more messy to eat as the glaze flakes off while biting into it. Although a tad sweeter, which is my preference, franks left me with a mild wavy texture briefly afterwards. Kolbys cruller was less sweet but tasted a bit more greasy, reminded us of fair food. Although it didn't look to have much glaze the sweetness was just enough without being too much. Because it wasn't covered in the stiffer glaze it was also a bit softer. Kolby wins this round Frank's maple bar was good, typical maple bar. Kolbys maple bar was very soft. Like when you pick it up your fingers sink into it. It also had a sweeter more artificial flavor and the frosting flakes off more on the kolby bar. Franks wins this round. read more

When you travel 40 minutes just to get the best donuts EVER, you should know they are heavenly delicious. Last time I went got to try the maple bacon long john OMG left me wanting to go back and get more. The bear claws are huge and sooooo fluffy. Stoped by Franks Donuts today and was greeted by a sign claiming "SOLD OUT!"! Extremely disappointed by the lack of donuts available for FRANK B. Is it possible for a place to run out I ask myself. But next door is the Pierce County Sheriffs Dept and suddenly it dawned upon me the police have gobbled up all the donuts. The myth of police & donuts is solved and YES they love them. We went to Frank's Donuts last weekend and we had a very good experience! The donuts are very good! We tried several different kinds. Steve got a creme bar which was good... it was quite large so he had to save some for the next day. I got a devils food donut with chocolate frosting on top which was superb. In fact the fellow behind the counter was extremely generous and gave us two more of these donuts for free. I think it may have been because it was midday and he needed to get rid of some of the donuts so there would be less leftover once closing time came but regardless what the reason was it was a very nice gesture. In addition to the devil's food donuts I also got a cinnamon sugar donut which was very good as well. Frank's also sells their donuts at the Saars grocery store. Perhaps there are other places that sell their donuts as well but that is something I don't know. Frank's is definitely a great place to go if you are in the Spanaway area and are in need of a donut fix! read more

This was my first time going to this place and I have to say, the service here is top notch and the lady even gave me a free bonus donut on top of my dozen order! She greets you on your way in and on your way out and asks how your day's been which I thought was super nice. The donuts themselves tasted amazing of course. And all the donuts were huge compared to ordinary sized ones! My total came out to be just $14 for a dozen of the assorted donuts I selected (photo attached). Will definitely be back. read more

It was around 3:00am and I was welcomed by two men who were super happy to see me despite how early in the morning it was.They were so kind, gave me a discount, and two extra donuts for free. The first two times I came here, they were COMPLETELY out of donuts. I mean, not one thing left. By some good fortune, my friend called, and they had two bacon-maple left. Good friend (anyone who risks a speeding ticket for food is a good friend) grabbed the maple and a glaze. These donuts are amazingly delicate. It's more than just soft. The glaze they use is not that sweet. Depending on your preference, this could be a good or bad thing. I like that they use a whole piece of bacon. Makes the bacon more than a novelty, you can actually taste the smokey-bacony-ess. My friend likes it better than Voodoo. I've never had Voodoo. As my friend correctly stated, this donut would be the product if Krispy Kremes and Lakewood's House of Donuts had a baby. I really wish yelp had a .10 rating system. I would give this place just under four stars. I'd knock them just under 4 because if they keep running out of donuts, seems like a management issue. But they do have a drive thru. read more

My first donut shop visit since moving to the area and I was not disappointed! I got a dozen variety and while we haven't gone through them all yet, I can definitely say I'm in trouble with their raisin bar! I've never had a donut like that and it's my new favorite! I also enjoyed bites of the apple fritter which was also yummy. I can't wait to try the strawberry cinnamon roll! The staff was very friendly, helpful, and promptly welcomed me to the store. I only deducted one star because I'm a cake donut lover and was sad to see the small area of cake donuts without much variety (no chocolate or blueberry that I like). I might revise my review later since I did get there later in the morning; maybe their cake donuts go fast first thing. Go to place for your donut needs early in the morning. Prices are great and the donuts left everyone asking "where are these from?" Total crowd pleaser. Recommend the glazed, maple bars and cake donuts, but given the quality I'd bet money that they're all good. Definitely going to come again :) read more

I have been meaning to try this local donut shop after hearing about how "delish" this place is but never got up early enough to make the trip as I was told that I need to arrive bright and early to ensure donut availablity, not just selection but actual donuts being available at all as they run out quickly!!! Seeing how my sleep schedule is null with a newborn, I took the opportunity of using my 4am feeding as a wake-up call for donuts and made my way down to Frank's, Finally.... Driving up, I could smell the delicious scent of dough and walking in I saw cases and cases of donuts........oh yeah, it's on!!! Their dozen is 15 I believe? or maybe she was extra nice but I got about every flavor available and then some and the price was unbelievable low!!!!
