Cute little shop located off of 11th street and not hard to miss as the building is painted bright yellow. Parking is ample for the tiny building too. Was greeted with a warm welcome and placed my order. Was also asked if I'd like an egg roll which I thought was whimsical but not something I wanted to try at the moment (though maybe the next quest should be egg rolls...hmm). On to the blueberry cake...The fry was perfection as it was just crispy enough but not oily. The flavor was a true blueberry taste with pockets of blueberry and a slight purplish hue. The 2 sold out items were the Scones and Buttermilk Bars. I would have definitely compared them to Pink Box's bars. If they're sold out here at Pao's, I'd assume they have to be very good. I'm not one for scones but theirs looked a little special. One previous poster here suggested that it would be worth paying a penalty for the Toasted Coconut. Definitely a very good example. Mr. Pao was a kind man, patient with the customer ahead of us that did not know that the establishment is cash only. Cash only is great. The CC Cos make enough money as it is and the 3% transfer/ transaction fee they charge merchants is always passed onto the consumer unless...... Pay with cash people! The donuts. Maple bar was good. I was not content with the double chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was rather flat and depended on the icing to carry it across the finish line. We didn't arrive terribly late for some items to be sold out. Some people just.......... If you need 40 dozen of a particular item, don't just walk in and be inconsiderate of other patrons. Call ahead and make a special order. Otherwise, control yourself and consider others before blowing out a selection. I'm a white cream fan over Bavarian/ Boston Custard. Some places have a white cream filled Long Johns. Pao's just the long chocolate bars, no filling. Standard Boston Cream donuts are available. The donuts are a nice size and selection is good. You have to love the small local donut bakeries. Some are amazing, some ehh. This was about at 3/4 to amazing. If I had to grade, maybe an 82% for the day. Definitely room for improvement both on the business and customer side of the transaction. Keep it cash only and stick it to big bank business.

First the location is pretty easy to reach. Small strip mall store front off Portland Ave. I walked in and there were two people ahead of me but no seating and hardly room to view the selection. There is a plastic COVID screen still up and pictures of people who have stolen from them. The selection of donuts is decent and apparently on the weekends there are speciality fritters. The owner operators are kind and so helpful (high praises!). I ordered one blueberry donut and one banana fritter. Both appeared to be well cooked and scrumptious. However, each of the donuts were over fried and tasted like old grease. The blueberry cake was full of blueberries but no real blueberry taste. The fritter was soaked in grease and no banana flavor. Sadly this is not on my list to try again.

The shelves were full of scrumptious looking treats but I was here for just one. The blueberry cake donut of course! I also got a raspberry krispie bar for my mom (the bite I took was yummy!) I absolutely felt welcomed and the owner/operator was so sweet! I also loved all the plants! The blueberry cake was light and flavorful. Good amount of blueberry with that magical purple hue inside. Trying to find a decent blueberry cake donut (top 3 donuts for me) is challenging in the Tacoma area. Kolby's delivers but it's a popular donut so you have to be an early bird to get one. The blueberry fritter was mediocre. It didn't have a lot of fruit and was raw in the center. I like a well cooked fully loaded with fruit fritter not just slightly flavored. Maybe on my next visit I will try the old fashioned and cinnamon twist (ones that were being ordered by others in line).
