Busy with a great variety and excellent customer service. The line was about six deep when I got there around 9:30 am but moved quickly with several people helping. A large group of regulars was there so the seating was taken but I'm usually picking up the donuts and delivering them back home so no need to linger and savor a sweet treat that morning. Trying to find a decent blueberry cake donut (top 3 donuts for me) is challenging in the Tacoma area. Kolby's delivers but it's a popular donut so you have to be an early bird to get one. The blueberry fritter was mediocre. It didn't have a lot of fruit and was raw in the center. I like a well cooked fully loaded with fruit fritter not just slightly flavored. Maybe on my next visit I will try the old fashioned and cinnamon twist (ones that were being ordered by others in line). read more

Seriously one of the best donuts I have ever had, so soft it was like biting into air. Prices were reasonable, for two donuts and the biggest coffees they had it was like 10 bucks. Easily a return to spot. They were packed when we walked in but they were getting people through the line very quick. The only down side was the lobby was half filed with furniture so there wasn't really any place to sit. I enjoyed stopping by to check out this nice classic donut shop and try out a few things. The ordering process was super fast and I decided to go with a few boston cream donuts, 1 glazed and a dozen donut holes. There was no seating available inside when I was there everything was stacked up on the side of the shop, but I was just planning on taking it home anyways. Now for the donuts themselves: very delicious, light, fluffy and fresh in taste. Not overly greasy or dense which was nice. Price is fair and comparable to other donut shops around too. I didn't get a good look at the rest of their menu, but they do have other things besides donuts like breakfast sandwiches. Decided to do a side by side comparison of Franks & Kolby's, here are our thoughts: Only tried 2 donuts, glazed cruller and maple bar. Both locations the price was exactly the same at $3.50 for 2 donuts. Franks cruller was taller and had more glaze. This made it a bit more messy to eat as the glaze flakes off while biting into it. Although a tad sweeter, which is my preference, franks left me with a mild wavy texture briefly afterwards. Kolbys cruller was less sweet but tasted a bit more greasy, reminded us of fair food. Although it didn't look to have much glaze the sweetness was just enough without being too much. Because it wasn't covered in the stiffer glaze it was also a bit softer. Kolby wins this round Frank's maple bar was good, typical maple bar. Kolbys maple bar was very soft. Like when you pick it up your fingers sink into it. It also had a sweeter more artificial flavor and the frosting flakes off more on the kolby bar. Franks wins this round. read more

Love love this place! Perfect place to stop by after ice skating. My favorite by far is the original glazed. It's big and fluffy, just the right amount of chewiness, fried but not super greasy, the perfect thinness of glaze layer. I can't say enough good things about it. I'm positive I could eat a box in one sitting. Other doughnuts I've tried are the chocolate frosted, pink frosting with sprinkles, one with coconut and chocolate, boston cream, and the long stick version of the both the glazed and the chocolate. Everything is good because the basic doughnut is good, but I happen to just like plain glazed best. Only one I didn't like was boston cream and I vastly prefer Dunkin for this one (which I frequently do). I haven't tried any cake doughnuts or sandwiches, but those look like offerings here too. They seem popular based on witnessing other people order then haha but I really can't recommend the glazed enough. The people working are nice and I've always had a pleasant experience here. This is a 5-star doughnut shop for me. It's a small local shop that isn't interested in being fancy. Instead of trying to go overboard like the Legendary Doughnuts type of doughnut shops that are becoming so popular, they have stayed "retro" by focusing on what's important -great doughnuts with great service. This was my first time in this shop since moving into the area. I previously went to similar local doughnut shops in Lakewood and Tacoma. Here are my observations: 1) Fresh doughnuts. We were actually politely asked to wait a few moments so more fresh doughnuts could be added to the display case. 2) Great customer service. Very polite and patient. Very quick getting our orders. There were 3 senior veterans hanging out, so you know they treat their customers well. 3) They're not just a doughnut shop -they also have espresso, breakfast sandwiches made fresh (we watched her crack eggs), veggie juices and smoothies! We came for the doughnuts, but left with breakfast sandwiches, a dozen doughnut holes, a blueberry fritter and a glazed nutty doughnut. The sandwiches were amazing and stuffed us, making us wait to eat our doughnuts. The doughnuts were again, fresh and delicious. Not too yeasty. Just right. 4) Easy access parking lot. We did see a guy puking his guts out in the parking lot while leaning out of his car -we're assuming he had partied a little too hardy the night before since it was a lot of puke and early Saturday morning. Definitely can't be the doughnuts as we're A-ok. Lol. Anyway, lots of parking. Easy to find right next to Jack-in-the-Box on the corner of Pacific and Military. Overall, we're very happy and will definitely be back. Stop by and get your morning started right! Open 5AM-5PM daily, per Yelp. We arrived just after 9AM after leaving Home Depot across the street and we're getting a fresh refill of doughnuts and no other customers in line. read more

Spanaway has lots of coffee shops and of course what goes great with coffee but donuts? So there are a fair amount of donuts shops in the area as well. Kolby's was the last one I had on my "to try" list and the donuts didn't disappoint! I got three chocolate frosted donuts, a blueberry donut, a coconut donut and a cinnamon twist. All of the donuts were delightful and were great treats for the morning a few Saturdays ago. I'd definitely come back not only for the donuts but for the fast and friendly service as well! read more

Fast and friendly service, however the doughnuts were not great. I ordered an apple turnover which I expected apple filling inside. I was not expecting the peanuts or the coconut. I would have hoped for better signage stating there were peanuts and coconut inside it. The raised glazed were not cooked thoroughly and deflated back to the doughy flat disks.
