The ancient wooden fence surrounding our backyard was in need of replacement. After researching fencing companies for awhile and trying to navigate through an unbelievable number of very negative reviews, my neighbor mentioned that she had read about Frank's Fences. She said that their reviews warranted a close look. I took a look and agreed. I quickly scheduled Frank to come out and give me an estimate. I was very impressed and, as it was late fall at the time, he and I set a date for spring of this year. Yesterday was our fence day. Frank and 2 other men arrived punctually at 8:45. They had the old fence down and stacked by 9:40. The entire job was completed by 5:30 the same day and the fence is beautiful. Frank is very easy to work with. He never subcontracts the job out. He takes pride in the work done by his brother and himself and 1 other gentleman. Indeed, they are very diligent and rarely take a break. His price was very competitive and he had no qualms about a 2 year warranty. I was impressed by the fact that they literally built the fence 1board at a time rather than simply nailing up prefab panels. This allows them more flexibility for post placement near trees, etc. it permits a nice looking tight fit. I scheduled an appointment for a fence quote after seeing so many positive reviews for Frank's Fences on Next-door website. I called late on a Friday afternoon & I was pleasantly surprised when Frank answered. We scheduled an appointment for the following Tuesday afternoon w/ Frank committing to place a reminder call in advance of the scheduled appointment. Tuesday arrived but I didn't get the promised phone call BUT Frank did show up & we discussed what I wanted. Told him I wanted either chain link or aluminum after he tore out my existing wood fence. He got an aluminum fencing brochure from his truck & I found exactly what I wanted (combination of aluminum frame w/ vinyl inserts) but I told him I wanted a lighter color which was most likely a more custom order). I should have known something was up when he didn't do any measuring & as he was leaving, after promising a quote w/in several days via email, he asked if I was sure I didn't want a wood fence. I said no, that I wanted the aluminum/vinyl combo. A week went by w/ no quote as promised. So I called AND sent an email advising I was anxious & excited to get the quote. NO RESPONSE whatsoever. Was just blown off. So needless to say, I'm still looking for a fencing contractor. Reflecting back it does seem that perhaps Frank was only interested in installing a wood fence. VERY DISAPPOINTING considering the positives reviews I had read. I just wish contractors would be honest & stop promising something they have no intention of delivering. I needed 10 or 11 posts and dog eared panels installed. Called 2 days before and said I only needed the holes and posts. He was not happy he wasn't getting the whole job. Hire this clown at your own risk. And, don't you dare change your mind 2 days before. Came home from work to holes and posts in. There was only one fence panel that fit between two posts. The others were 6, 12, 9, 10, or 7 feet apart. I guess he showed me for him not getting the job. He's nothing but a crybaby because he didn't get his way. I am sorry but Frank has promised since April to come out to my home after giving me a estimate last Aug/Sept. Knowing I needed his help before 7/07/2021. Frank put up a beautiful fence at my house in less than a day. Hauled away the old fence and even consulted us on how to install the fence so it look the best. His price was less than half of the other big fence companies or big box store installers. Plus he made the boards himself, and didn't buy the pre-fab ones from the hardware store. Communication was a breeze. Set everything up via text and now we have a great fence. He even replaced my neighbors broken fence on the fly, on the same day. This is a two-for-one five-star review. Frank and his crew installed a wood privacy fence at our previous home and we were really happy with their work. The materials and install were great, and the price we paid was very fair. We were having an Inground Pool installed and hired Frank and his team to install an Aluminum Fence for our home. Franks Fences did an amazing job, they had to work around a crazy schedule with many different contractors showing up at different stages of the project, Frank worked with me on timing and showed up to the job on time and finished the job ahead of schedule leaving no mess. We purchased our vinyl pvc fence from Frank in 2015. The whole install took a day of prep and then 2 days for install as we had an old fence to tear down and rocks to go around that lined our yard. They cleaned up and left everything looking good. Three years later the fence still looks great. Our gate gets lots of use and we lost a post cap and have had to adjust the hinges to keep it working optimally. I have been searching all over to replace the cap thinking it would be an easy find. Reviews say when he puts up a fence, it's great and affordable. But if you call and he doesn't return phone calls; or when you talk to him he seems uninterested in your job because it's a small front yard fence; or when you make two appointments and he fails to show-then he's not great. I do not recommend calling him unless you live nearby in Livonia maybe or have a huge outdoor project for him in the Detroit area. But don't bother if it's small or outside Detroit. Frank was great with installing our new fence. He had to deal with our quirky city regarding permits, and was really responsive through the whole process. Once the permit was obtained, he was able to schedule the tear down and building of the fence within a couple of weeks. One day to tear down, one day to build, and the fence looks great! read more

Was friendly on the phone and did actually come out to give me a quote although I had to ask 4 times for him to email it me before actually receiving it. Frank was the worst type of crooked contractor in the fact that he made me think for two months that he was going to come do the work but was constantly delayed due to weather. Then when he couldn't hide behind the weather excuse he ultimately just didn't show or call. After several attempts of calling him, the promised schedule has come and gone without even the respect of a call or anything just..... POOF gone as if Franks Fences never even existed. Found franks fences on Craigslist and frank portrayed himself and his company as professional and straightforward and affordable. I asked for an itemized quote which I wanted to compare to a material quote from lowes. After many false promises to call me back and provide me the quote, due to him being so busy with work, he finally emailed me a half ass and hardly detailed quote which I requested but it was nothing professional or detailed at all. Also there were no itemized material costs, which was a major red flag because I told him I wanted to compare the material costs with what lowes professionally quoted me with specific costs for each specified quantity of materials needed. His amateur quote over estimated the quantity of materials needed and provided no costs. Then, to my surprise, his quote stated the total cost of The job he originally quoted me after seeing the job and discussing it together, along with the statement "plus all hardware." I asked him to clarify what the actual total cost would be, because it was clearly going to be more than the price he originally promised me. I reached out to him multiple times for clarification and he suddenly Discontinued all communication, basically acknowledging that he was trying to pull a bait and switch with his smooth talking, repeating " I am only making only $100-150 on the job after I pay all the material costs and my crew. And When I questioned his costs compared to the lower quote from lowes, his response to my inquiry was that he didn't have any more time to waste discussing the costs, and insisted there was no cheaper option anywhere around. I thought it was shamefully obvious he was giving me a line of bullshit, and was only interested in doing jobs with people who didn't do any research and challenge his costs. If you are using due diligence to justify the appropriate costs then he has no further interest in working with you, and will just stop responding to you. In summary, My experience with franks fences proved to be very deceitful and misleading. He portrays himself and his company as utmost professional and honest, but it became evident very quickly that it was a swindling hustle with focus on jobs with customers who are uninformed and simply buy into the pitch without doing any price comparisons. He didn't even have the professional courtesy to communicate his decision to pass on the job, he simply just disappeared and cut of all contact instantaneously. I highly encourage anyone seeking fence installation to go to your local lowes or Home Depot with your dimensions and let them calculate and generate detailed itemized quotes of the material costs (which they will happily provide free of cost), then compare those costs to any quotes from fence companies. Also make sure the quotes you receive from contractors list the actual total costs (time and materials, not to exceed), and include all hardware. In my experience with Frank's fence, i was seriously considering the initial quote I received , but the fact that hardware was not included (additional $150-$200) and was not mentioned clearly upfront, but vaguely slipped into the emailed "official quote" was obviously an attempt at a sly customer manipulation. Ultimately, after realizing he had cut me off for questioning the lack of clarity in price, and asking for an actual total price, I decided to try to do a refurbish of my existing fence myself and it turned out to be much easier than I ever would have guessed, and it took me and a buddy about 10 hours with material costs less than $200 total. Sorry for the long post, good luck, and have confidence in yourself doing it because it's not rocket science and is totally doable with a few of the right tools and an extra pair or two of helping hands. This was my first time working on fenses, and we dug out 5 post and replaced them, then replaced the backside 2x4s of all the existing panels, and installed all new hardware.
