Service sucks. Food is disgraceful. The ranch tastes like sour cream , the energy is ghetto, should have stayed shut down

It's been awhile since we've been to Frank's, but ever since they went smoke free in 2014, it's been on our list. We stopped in on a recent Sunday afternoon and we were immediately greeted with a friendly "you haven't been here before" from the bartender - she called it, it had been quite some time! I have to say she was one of the best bartenders we've encountered lately - before my husband could even ask to sample a beer, she was already pouring him a taste. They have a decent selection of crafts on tap along with the old standards. We had a couple of beers and split an appetizer. The menu is large with a good selection of your standard bar food and a variety of specials throughout the week. As we were leaving, she asked if we knew about their beer club, which we did not. Free to join for incentives as you make your way through the 100 beers on the list...its good to have goals. It's a great, friendly neighborhood bar and we will be back soon! read more

It's unfortunate that recent events have changed my view of Franks. I was excited by the positive changes that were being made. Then after a few crime related happenings nearby, the change in ownership and obvious changes in food quality. We won't be back in the near future, sadly. read more

Drinks are inexpensive and plentiful, the food is particularly good (never had a bad meal there in 11 years) and the clientele is diverse. We love it! read more

Amazing and relaxed atmosphere and amazing food! The hamburgers are huge and have a great flavor. The fried mushrooms with a side of ranch are delicious and of course, you can never go wrong with an adult beverage of your choice. Franks has daily specials on drink and food. Been back.place sucks.lousy waitresses...lousy customers.....they suck. Used to be nice joint. Not no more....

In light of some of the violence that occurs there, after hours,(recent police shooting) and usually in their parking lot..I would not again visit the place. This place is not in the best area of South Bend. It is surrounded by older two and three story frame houses that were once the best in town. Now these old houses are multi unit apartments which are not that well kept. Back in the very early seventies...had an acquaintance stabbed to death in the parking lot.. read more

I would like to begin my review of Frank's Place by stating that I have been to Frank's Place a number of times, and I would have to say that almost every visit has been enjoyable. Good food, large selection of drinks, and pleasant employees. The crowd are mostly regulars and the mood is very relaxed. A good number of TV's with various sports/event's on the screens to cater to the varying needs of the customers' preferences. Keep in mind when the Irish are playing most of the TV's will be tuned in to that game as well as World series, Super Bowl, etc. The staff is very friendly and very easy to get along with. They have an inside smoking room for those who enjoy smoking and don't feel like braving the cold winter days or nights outside. By the way, if you enjoy trying different drinks, they have a drink card with a list of at least 100 drinks where you gain recognition at various incremental stages. It's pretty cool if you are a regular or an individual who is looking to diversify from the mundane. Did I mention that the food is good? read more

I like to stop in here on Thursday nights for karaoke. They have excellent frozen long island specials. If you are hungry for dinner they have a little taco bar for special on that night. They have some great panini sandwichws as well. read more

In town for a hockey tournament wanted to avoid the chains and we were tired of pizza. Philly Cheese Steak, a Chill Burger, Combo Platter and Pretzel Rolls. ALL very good. Thanks Frank's we'll be back for our next Visit!! read more

If you happen to be in that toilet bowl of a city known as South Bend and want a beer or a cheap drink and are ready for some fun or funny times talking to patrons - go to Franks Place. Big parking lot, free wi-fi, and cheap booze attached to a liquor store. The food is worth skipping - unless they are making popcorn. read more

Stop into Frank's for a great lunch! Nice portions and service was timely and friendly. Atmosphere is comfortable and inviting. Cheerful bunch and try to return when in the area. Sort of a diamond in the rough, more upscale than the location may appear. I'm always searching for home cooked, off the beaten path places. This fit the bill and you can have a drink if you wish. Last time I was in, folks were returning for their Friday night entertainment. Sounds fun to hang out at also. Definately worth stopping in. Enjoy! read more

What a delightful neighborhood and citywide-accessible not-too-huge bar, restaurant, and liquor store -- like all good pubs it tries to be a good honest public house -- accommodating all friendly persons in their conviviality and individuality -- including skillfully managing to accommodate both non-smokers and smokers -- with tactful diplomacy and grace. Things at Frank's Place have changed a bit since the '70s -- Frank's has always reflected an up-to-date view of the times -- Frank's Place shows great appreciation for the traditions of professional hospitality established in its Portage-William and Marion location by its predecessors Rick's Time Out and earlier Pearl's Party Bar, and like his business forbears, Frank and his successor Frank Jr. (the latter of whom goes by their middle name Nick to allow us to keep it easy to distinguish him from his Dad), take personal responsibility and pride in having the place in its name announce their own first names -- now there is a small dance floor next to the high-tech jukebox and the TVs are larger, flatter, and sharper ... The staff is professional and friendly. The dining fare is very much better than average bar food. The food and drink prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is entertaining without being oppressive. It's a great place to watch the game, or to dance with your partner without the music being too terribly loud, or to sit at the bar and chat with your friends. Soooo I called to see if the kitchen was still open cause it says it's a pub. I know a lot of pubs close their kitchens early. Well after 5mins of being on hold cause the lady said she didn't know, I gave up. I don't think I wanna go to a place to eat that can't even answer a simple question. read more

The food was very good, with the portions being more than the generous size. However, I CANNOT believe how awful our server was. She was incredibly rude to myself, girlfriend, and her mom. She would walk away after we said thank you and requested plates for our appetizers that came 15 minutes later. I am still in shock with how we were first greeted and treated especially for it being our first time there. DO NOT come here, McDonalds has better service than these guys. Horrible read more

For my taste Frank's fits the profile of a great place to get a filling meal at an affordable price. From the outside Frank's my look like a place that wouldn't attract the nicest of crowds but a quick step through the front door will immediately change your perception. A long time lunch secret of the Memorial Hospital doctor crowd Frank's ambiance is much more than one would expect from a "West side neighborhood bar" in South Bend, IN. The wait staff is generally very pleasant, and you'll realize very quickly that Frank's is a place with a loyal lunch and late night crowd. Four television sets line the walls with sports and news updates keeping the patron's attention when crowds force a longer wait than normal for your meal. Seating is nothing fancy, but there is definitely room for large parties down to a 2 person business lunch. Prices for meals are very affordable (generally speaking meals are less than $6). Saturday and Sunday boast half price drink specials on all beers (bottle or draft) and mixed drinks. (Excludes shots and on the rocks.) A jukebox and dart board keep the late night crowds entertained and Frank's is definitely a place to meet new friends, or simply slip away for a drink or two. Definitely your standard neighborhood bar, but at Frank's the people and food make all the difference. I recommend stopping in for lunch first. read more

I have been a patron of Frank's place since the late 80's before Frank sold to his children. I went in there last Friday Night the 29th of December as a family get togther of about 10 people since one niece was leaving the next day and there was not a lot of people there. When I got up to leave at about 10 O'Clock the security guard slammed someone to the ground from behind me causing a chair to flip up and hit hit in the mid section. I did not hear any arguing or anything to lead me to believe something was wrong, as the guard was standing over the patron in question he said don't touch me and that he was going to stomp him. This guy was an older man and was not causing any trouble that I saw the whole time he was there. The chair that hit me was where my wife was sitting and she just got up two minutes earlier, she would have been run over had she not gotten up. After the older gentlemen left the waitresses went over and gave the guard props and high fives. I told the waitress that that was totally unnecessary and that should not happen in an area where customers are located. Her response was that if I hear commotion I should get out of the way, I replied so it is my fault? She just shrugged her shoulders and repeated what she said. She had longer hair and wore glasses. Further reflection I believe that 1) The security guard does not have the temprement for that job if he believes endangering customers is the correct thing to do, the bar obviously does as he was praised 2) The waitresses on duty that night are friends of the bar manager's daughter. So it appears the bar manager has employed people in her image of what she thinks the bar should be, it used to be a nice place and was well run when Mary Ann was there but don't go there after 7PM anymore, it isn't worth the risk. Nepotism has never been a good business practice. Obviously the bar manager is allowed to run the place without much oversight from the owners 3) I will never set foot in there again because of their incompetence and attitude. I used to have several business meetings in there for lunch, but not anymore and I will tell all my colleagues what transpired there and how the place has changed. read more

You would be smart to avoid this restaurant! I had a Restaurant.com certificate to use up. Food was mediocre at best, and we only ate 1/2 of our meals because of it. But the real rip off was at the end of the meal when they charged me a mandatory 18% gratuity. They said it was Restaurant.com's policy and also they adopted the policy themselves. I have been using certificates from this website for several years now and have never been told this by any other restaurant. Even though I explained this to them, they refused to take off the mandatory 18% gratuity. Believe me, I would have never left that much gratuity at this restaurant as it would never warrant it. I thoroughly believe they do this to recoup part of the certificate monies back into their hands. They should be removed from the Restaurant.com list of available opportunities. Thank you Restaurant.com for standing up for a participant when being mistreated by one of the restaurants on your lists. They confirmed that this is not the policy and credited me back. Avoid this restaurant! You won't enjoy your meal there! Beware of their unfair tactics! In a "shady" part of town, I wouldn't feel comfortable going there after dark. read more
