I had checked Yelp last evening for restaurant recommendations here in Onawa where we're camping for two days on our trek back east, and didn't see any standouts. However, "Frannies", a breakfast/lunch place had good reviews. Easy to find. Plenty of parking on this charming Iowa Main Street. Interior was light, airy, and clean. Plenty of seating. The service was immediate and cheerful. Coffee was excellent. I ordered the "Breakfast Feast" - country fried steak, hash browns (or fries), two eggs to order (scrambled), and a grilled muffin (back East we call it an "English Muffin." All covered in a light pepper gravy. Everything was done to perfection. The hash browns were crispy, the steak was also crispy yet tender. Often times, a gravy can be "flour-y" or too much pepper but this was perfect. Grilled muffins were crispy and buttery. The portion was large, and I couldn't finish, but I didn't bring it home to microwave later: it would have been mush and I wanted to remember it just as it had been in all of its tasty glory. My wife had French toast and sausage (she has more resistance than I), and it was reportedly excellent as well. Prices were very reasonable. We tipped 30% on the total. read more

We ate breakfast there this morning. We sat for 10 minutes or more at the both by the register. The table had a rag on it and needed wiped off. No one came over or checked in on us . Finally I asked the cash if someone could wait on us. Because everyone went by would look at us but did nothing . She said coldly someone will wait one you. Finally someone did . When our food came I asked the runner if I could have hot sauce . She never brought it back nor did o get syrup for my pancakes. My husband had to ask another server for those two items. Our coffee was never filled and we were not checked on . Poor service by our waitress and even by the staff. read more

Little stop on the trip to Omaha. So glad we found this place. Quick bite to eat. Friendly service. Food was really good. I got the pork tenderloin and boy was it tender and juicy. My wife got the Frannie Melt. It was oozing with goodness. The onions were sautéed to perfection. Son got a bacon cheeseburger which he had eaten before he could say anything. We hit up Frannies for breakfast this morning. It was delicious! Prompt service! A whole pot of coffee for the table! The kids had ginormous pancakes with bacon and hash browns which my son claimed "were the best hb's he's ever had". They had standard egg and omelette fair. All and all a great breakfast spot to hit if you are in the area! We forgot to take pics however everything was plated as well as any diner would have plated such food. read more

Heading to the Omaha airport after a visit to Yankton SD we were looking for a place to eat on the way. Found Frannie's, a very pleasant surprise. A must to visit for great food, friendly service and super clean. It's open from 6 am til 2 pm and serves breakfast all day and has great lunch offerings also. I had the breakfast sandwich and it was superb! If you have one here you'll never eat an egg McMuffin ever again. I chose ham and Swiss cheese to go with my perfectly cooked egg on a great English muffin. I added a side of hash browns because I'd seen the picture of them on other reviews and they're even better than they look which is fantastic. I love hash browns so have ordered them many times In many places but these were the best I've had. Hubby chose the pork tenderloin sandwich that was the special that day and it was a tea good choice and very tasty. He also had one pancake and it was HUGE and served with real butter and real maple syrup. And it was so tasty also. We couldn't finish it and just hated that we couldn't but the portions are all BIG! Parking is strange, It's like a frontage road on both sides of the main drag. We laughed when a lady at the gas station said they get a lot of "coffee-ers" there. Very clean, & wide-open dining area. Excellent roast beef. A nice quiet clean and friendly restaurant. I had gravy on my sandwich. The service is really quick. The architecture of the towns building is very unique. A must stop if u r hungry. Across the street is Burgess Auxiliary Thrift Store. You must go in and make a purchase it helps the local hospital.
