    Salads made fresh!
    Bethany W.

So I had an hour in between two meetings and I was starving! Yes I could have grabbed a salt beef bagel which whenever I'm on Brick Lane is the norm BUT I wanted eggs and I'm so glad a did! I want to my trusty Yelp app and there waiting was F&E a 2 minute walk away, bingo! I walked in and grabbed a table with ease. My first thoughts were 'how cute'. It's a lovely likle cafe, perfect for meetings (which many were having), perfect for working (which many were doing) and perfect for morning breakfast dates (which I was definitely listening in on - shhh). I scanned the menu and opted for the scrambled eggs with bacon on sour dough toast. I toddled up to counter and was greeted with the very eccentric Italian (I think) owner - he did by pass me to talk to a friend of his behind me for a couple minutes which was slightly irritating but hey he's only human and I know he didn't mean offence so... He continued to circulate the room, chatting to people as they came in and the regulars. It was nice - reminded me of my local cafe at home...smiles. Now to the food - the eggs were perfect. Creamy, buttery and just scrummy. The bacon was crispy, it was streaky bacon which I wouldn't usually opt for but it went down well. And the toast was toasty :) I had a really pleasant little hour break and would definitely go back to people/owner watch and munch on some eggs. Tips: the cakes looks amazing AND there's a Yelp offer on at the minute - free coffee with a cake. Winning!

The best cupcake in the world. Too good to wait to take a picture.

The carrot and courgette cupcake with cream cheese icing here changed my life. This is not hyperbole. The café itself is simple and unassuming. But the cake. Oh, the homemade cake... CAKE. CAke. cake. cake

First of all, the atmosphere of Franze & Evans is very welcoming. There are tables lining the outside, and wooden tables crammed inside which are shared amongst parties. Though there were scattered empty seats for a lone diner such as I, I had to wait twenty minutes to be seated. I'm used to much longer waits than that, but I was peeved that I ended up being seated at a seat that was empty when I had first arrived. I was seated with a menu, but then had another fifteen minutes to wait before being acknowledged by a waiter. By the time I ordered, the couple seated ahead of me had already finished eating. Then, I was blessed with the opportunity to wait ten more minutes for water to come out - after I had to remind them. Luckily, not too long after came my open-face sandwich featuring spinach, smoked salmon, and poached eggs drizzled with hollandaise sauce all atop toasted sourdough. Needless to say, I was quite excited. I love thick cuts of sourdough. I love toasted sourdough. I do not love thick cuts of toasted sourdough which make it impossible to eat a sandwich and difficult to cut on top. The eggs were poached to perfection, and seasoned with fried prosciutto (a presentation as impressive as bacon bits - which is to say, not at all). The spinach was perfectly good spinach. The smoked salmon was perfectly good salmon. The hollandaise was very disappointing - not savory and somewhat watery (which I presume are symptoms of the same cause - not enough butter). Overall, Franze & Evans is a great spot for Instagram photos of well plated food and probably not much else.

    What a croissant lineup

Best eggs I have had in a long time. From tuscany apparently. Cooked perfectly, all orange and runny and flavoursome in the middle. Their hollandaise was clearly made fresh on site and a little bit goes a long, delicious way. The rest of the breakfast menu is very delicious sounding and they have a lot of veg side bits incorporated into the dishes. They also home make their beans. None of the breakfasts are too bread heavy but the bread they do get is really tasty sour dough and freshly baked. They make a good cup too. And flat whites are the normal size not that teenie, tiny child size. They have an extensive range of wines for lunch time booze hits and a big range of non alcoholic drinks for those who save their boozing til apres 5pm. On their counter, there is the most amazing looking selection of croissants with so many tempting fillings. And they have some very wholesome, tasty looking salads there on offer. The kind of salads that will actually fill you. Highly recommended. And the best thing: they open at a very sensible time of 8am mid week. Get there pre 11am. If you have to wait it is worth it.

I had some breakfast here with friends (after fighting our way through the flower market!) and it was really lovely. My huevos rancheros looked amaaaazing. Actually, I think it looked better than it actually tasted - this place is for instagram lovers!! But although the flavours were good, the tortilla was really tough, so it wasn't very easy to eat. The smoothies were all really good too. I was cuddling my friend's baby when the waitress told us all the smoothie options so I couldn't really hear her and just ordered one randomly. I have no idea what was in it, but it tasted delicious. We got here pretty early in the morning and there was loads of room. But as we were leaving quite a long queue was starting to emerge. I don't think I'd want to queue to visit here, but it's a brilliant option if you arrive early in the morning.

Amazing breakfast and lunch place. The food is fresh and looks always delicious. Make sure you have enough time because it is crowded at the weekends. Although it might get louder in here, the place is still cozy and invites for a comfy stay!

Franzè & Evans is a delicatessen slash cafe that only recently opened on Redchurch Street in the heart of Shoreditch. With an emphasis on good quality food and coffee, Franzè & Evans was started by three friends with backgrounds in beauty, art and, er, law and is quite clearly a labour of love for those involved. Stocking a good range of specialty foods - including my favourite Perugian Baci chocolates - and serving hearty Italian-style fare, Franzè & Evans is my new go-to place for great coffee on the go. If you ask nicely enough this lovely little cafe's owners are more than happy to talk you through the provenance of their coffee beans or give advice on how to prepare food with ingredients bought from their deli. A visit to Franzè & Evans is not only recommended but should make a thoroughly refreshing change to Shoreditch residents, some of whom must surely have tired of the slight dive-bar quality to many cafes in the area. Franzè & Evans not only know what they're doing but they do it with a charm sometimes lacking in this locale.

Went down to F&R the other day on my friends suggestion - she's friends with a girl who works here. I only say that because as they are friends they naturally had a bit of chat when we arrived, something along the lines of 'how are you'? Anyway it transpired that this girl was tired and she was very tired because it was 'market day'. I took this to be both a good and a bad thing. Good because I assume it meant I was lucky enough to be in on a day when everything had come in fresh from the market. However, I wonder, how often actually is market day? If she was especially tired because it was market day, market day can't be everyday. Are the other days, say, Tesco delivers day? Or perhaps, what we've got left in the fridge/larder days? Who knows. Whatever. What matters is I had a really nice meal here. The quiche was very good, came with a nice free little salad and the drink selection was mostly organic, free trade and all that. My friend has loads of allergies and the staff made a quick sandwich up especially for her and I don't think it was just because they're mates. Nice people. Nice food. Nice time.

Can't say I am all that impressed though. Red Velvet Cupcake - The frosting is so sweet and the Cake a little on the dry side. I like my Cakes to be moist. They're pricey too at £2.65 a pop. I thought paying the equivalent of £1.90 - £2.20 a Cupcake was a lot in California but I can't say I didn't expect it here in Britain as everything is more expensive. I do like the location of the Bakery, right near where my Hubby used to work and less than a mile from our beloved Thai Van (best Yellow Chicken Curry in The City btw!). Aside from the regular sized Cupcakes they also sell mini Cupcakes (£1.35) Brownies (£2.50-$3.75) and Whoopie Pies (£3.25) as well as whole Cakes from Sponge (£22 upwards) to Cheesecake (£26) and Pies (Pumpkin, Pecan, Mississippi Mud (£32-£36) ect. *There are also 3 other locations around London with the newest being in Islington in the Angel Building as well as a Food Truck (look at me becoming all ''American'').. or Van I guess I should be calling it that serves local Festivals.

I initially wanted/ordered a particular cake, after paying for it they realised they didn't actually have it in stock and when I said, to just leave it and asked to have my money back as I felt none of the other cakes were appropriate for my brother they, they refused saying that when a transaction has gone through on the till they cannot return the money. So finally I had to settle on a different cake which had to be re-iced in order to make it suitable. The cake looked pretty good, but to be honest it isn't that hard to make chocolate look good. I don't think I've ever been more disappointed would've been better off buying an Iceland's gateau. The cake was stale, I can only imagine how long it had been since it was made. Admittedly the icing wasn't terrible but the cake was so bad that my brother who would usually eat anything, including my awful cooking couldn't stomach more than two spoonfuls. Everyone that was served the cake ended up throwing it away, we still had half the cake left which also had to be thrown away. Waste of money. If you're looking for a cake from an asian store you're better off going to Banoful across the road from this place, or better yet my personal favourite - Patisserie Valerie in Spitafields is a good choice, definitely worth the money.
