While here I mentioned we've always wanted a solid roof on our patio cover, which runs the entire width of our south-facing backyard. We decided to go with his recommendation of translucent polycarbonate panels. His crew replaced all damaged wood, added reinforced bracing and painted the entire structure. This review is about Dave Fraser advising us NOT to have him build an attached pergola in our back yard. Fraser Decks and Patio Covers is the third vendor we've talked to and the first to explain that roof mounts for an attached pergola should be installed above the outside wall of the home. This would have resulted in a pergola "ceiling" that was way too high. After talking through options, it became clear that none were desirable. Instead of pushing us to go for something that would not make us happy in the long run, Dave suggested we look into cantilevered umbrellas as a much less expensive alternative. read more

Buyer beware. While the work appears to be quality work, they do a bait and switch where they provide an "estimate" that is at most 2/3rds of the actual price. Then once you get going, they point out that they wrote some confusing inconsistent language in the contract that says that 1/3rd of the total cost is not even addressed by the "estimate". My project was 133% of the estimated price and I did not know anything until there were huge holes dug in my backyard. Do not trust their pricing. read more

[[HIGHLIGHT]]My experience with this company was poor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got an estimate from them for a simple elevated deck frame. Footings for 10 posts, 10 beams & 80 joists. No decking, no railing. Just the frame. The bid was $91000 (Materials & labor). When I talked to them about this ridiculous price they claimed I was ignorant and that my design would not pass code and thus not be permitted. They were dead wrong. My plans passed a structural engineering check and a permit was issued without issue. I had another licensed contractor build this deck frame. Total cost $34000. (Materials & labor) Fraser Decks jacked up the material price by 15%, added $2000 to pay for their employees gasoline. And had $5000 worth of added material that was not needed at all. They claimed it would take over 500 man hours of work at $94 per hour. My contractor took 230 man hours at $50 / man hr. They seem to have a lot of great reviews from others. But they made huge mistakes on my estimate and for some reason refused to admit they screwed something up with the bid. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Instead they tried to demonize me claiming I was a person who did nothing but write negative reviews.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] A company who can't admit they screwed up is not a company I'd work with. read more

I contacted Danny Fraser and ask he perform a deck inspection prior to our purchase. Danny was extremely responsive. His inspection saved the us from purchasing a home with an unsafe deck that was not reparable. As the deck was so large a replacement would cost in excess of $130,000. Danny took over 50 photos to document the disrepair and code infractions. I cannot thank Danny enough. if you're going to purchase a home with a deck do not do so unless you have a deck inspection performed prior to purchase. I normally don't post reviews, but I have to say this is the best contractor experience I had in San Diego so far. Later in 2019 I wanted to replace my deck which had dry rot and was already a safety hazard. I contacted several of the 4+ stars deck contractors at Yelp, some of them too busy to answer the phone. Dave was quick to come visit me in two days. He was honest and knowledgeable and recommended composite and reuse of the existing wood frame. He told me he couldn't start right away, which was fine to me. His estimate was a the same value than other contractors, so I decided to go with him. However, the moment of truth is when the actual work happens.
