    Calamari

Is fratellis underrated?? First time here and went for their restaurant week menu because it seemed like a great way to try a good bit of the menu for a good price and let me tell you- you definitely get your moneys worth with this. We started with the calamari and meatballs. The calamari was just ok. It was good but nothing to remember. The meatballs were huge (5 in the portion!) and "meaty." They don't taste like a bunch of filler ingredients were added to bulk it up. The sauce was also very delicious, a little bit sweet too. For entrees, you can pick nearly anything from the menu so that was really cool. Sometimes restaurant week menus are very limiting. We got the pesto amore pasta which was so light and creamy. It was a massive portion. We took a whole extra portion home. The POB pizza - wow. My favorite. The pepperoni was so crisp and good but the dough has a hint of sweetness that really wins the dish. For dessert, there are 3 options. We got tiramisu which had a very nice coffee flavor and the limoncello cake which was the perfect amount of tart and sweet. Service was quick, we were in and out within 45 minutes.

I'm not sure how this place stays afloat when their prices are so low!!! I was AMAZED at the value I received. I stopped by on a weekday and took a seat at the bar. There were about three tables seated but it got busier with time. The bartender was quick to help. I told her I was there for the meatballs. So she put that in for me and showed me the happy hour menu. Wow! Happy hour! And it goes til 8!!!! Crazy. I got the garlic bread balls $7 and the Calabrian wings $7 as well. It was a lot of food!!! The arrabiata meatballs $11 (not on happy hour) came with six and a ton of cheese and sauce. So yum. My favorite thing was the pizza sauce with the bread bites though. It's so good. I had a $6 happy hour "you call it" but I had to ask what that meant first. The bartender said basically a simple alcohol plus mixer like gin and tonic or rum and coke etc, so I asked for local gin on ice. She gave me a generous pour and I was set. My wings took longer than the other items so I thought maybe she forgot? I inquired and it still took a bit. It's a popular item but maybe someone else got mine out of order. Anyhow- the bartender comped it off my bill because of the wait. I did not expect that. That is service! I boxes up my meatballs, wings and bread bites because I could not finish it all. The bartender was awesome. When I sat down I asked about paid parking v free parking as I was worried about getting a ticket or being towed. She was quick to check on me and easy to talk to. Kudos! The clientele are friendly. A younger gal sat near me with her newborn and had a snack and a drink and we pretty much talked for an hour. She said the espresso martini is fantastic and chowed down on the mozzarella sticks. Apparently they're a popular item and they're handmade on site. The pizza window next door is there by the slice option, which I heard gets super busy late night. Not all pizzas are offered at the window so the fancier pies are only in the restaurant. Good info. The prices here are far below market and their happy hour is legit. They could be making a killing but instead, they price reasonably and give you a lot of value for your money. I would recommend this place. Happy hour is good! Food is great! Street parking can be tricky. Bathrooms are clean. Everyone is nice. Check them out.

We went on trivia night (Wednesday 7pm & 8pm) and it was so fun! I got the salted caramel espresso martini and it was by far the best espresso martini in Grand Rapids!!!! Service was really great, friendly staff. And it was such a great space for trivia or nice meal out :)

My husband and I went to Fratelli's because I'm always interested in a good Sunday brunch and Bloody Mary. However, when we got there, we noticed some of the other food guests were having and we decided to forgo the breakfast altogether. Sometimes he and I are more drawn to the appetizers, so we got a couple to share, thinking that we would order a meal if we wanted more. We never got that far. We started with drinks and got the meatballs and garlic balls. First, the meatballs were HUGE, just like the Italians like 'em. They were spicy, and the sauce was on the sweet side. Normally, I don't care for sweet sauce, but because the meat was spicy, the sauce was a perfect balance. There was mozzarella draped over the top, and to make sure you didn't miss a drop, you could wipe up every last drop with the crostini. The garlic balls were tiny nuggets of dough with melted garlic butter and Parmesan cheese that you could dip into marinara. This was my favorite item. I took those nuggets and swiped them in the bottom of the bowl to get the remaining garlic butter. YUM! Because these were appetizers, they were only $7! Did I forget to mention that the mimosas and the Bloodies were also only $5 each? I can't forget about the scenery and the service. The restaurant was a small space with a full bar, casual, and full of old world style. There were only a couple of people working, but they were capable and friendly, and the server made recommendations and put up with my talkative husband. I met the manager and all-in-all, I felt welcomed like I had been invited to dinner at a local family's house in small town Italy.

Had a craving for some za- I ordered a Veggie pizza with vegan cheese. Let's " just say the "za" HIT THE SPOT!!! Salute! Fratelli's!!

    $5 sangria for happy hour

The last time I had Fratelli's was on a whim while waiting 3 hours for a table at Butcher's Union a year or two ago. My husband and I were starving and we ordered a carnivore pizza of some type and devoured the whole thing! I remember enjoying that more than our meal at Butcher's Union that night. Today, we thought we would give dine-in a try. On Sunday's happy hour lasts all day long, so I imbibed with a $5 sangria and the hubby got a $2 PBR. The kids enjoyed their pizza with an addition of fries for $8. They cleaned their plates (a rarity for them). I enjoyed the fresh cáprese salad with a twist. It had an addition of arugula, Kalmata olives and avocado to the classic tomato, mozzarella and basil. It also came with two toasted pieces of bread to stack the goodness on. Since I adore all those ingredients, I was happy as a clam. I also tried the fig pizza which was a fig spread, goat cheese, caramelized onion, pancetta, arugula, and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. I liked the first bite, but it quickly became too sweet for my pallet. It needed something acidic and maybe a slight heat to cut the glucose heavy pie. The hubby had the Calabrian wings and said the sauce tasted like a mixture of pizza sauce with sweet chili and Parmesan powder cheese blended together and poured over the wings. He ate it all up, but said it didn't taste like the traditional recipe. They have a fairly diverse menu of apps, pizza, pasta, burgers and sandwiches. They even have a few desserts as well as a full bar. The wait staff was friendly and helpful and even expedited our order because a huge group of 30 or so people were about to order and they didn't want our kids to wait too long. Very thoughtful! Definitely check out Fratelli's if you're in the area. It's worth it as a destination or as a back up plan if your resy at Gin Gin's or Butcher's Union falls through.

Let's start with Sarah and Craig at the bar. Great team, complement each other very well. Great service. The restaurant is classic American -Italian in food and decor. Now for the food. Ok, it is an Italian joint and the meatballs were good, the spaghetti was outstanding (served with a spoon thank you very much), the wife had a chicken wrap she loved and reports the shrimp app was very good. As good as all that was, they made some kind of thin sliced potato side for the wife's wrap and holy hell are those things good. Seriously stopped this Irish boy in his tracks they were so good. Could not have had a better dinner!

My friends and I visited for lunch. When we arrived, we were the only ones there. We ordered the pepperoni pizza and meatballs. I thought the pizza was a bit too heavy on the sauce and not enough cheese. Towards the end of a slice, there wasn't enough cheese to sauce ratio. I enjoyed the meatballs - though I wish the bread provided was a bit softer to soak up the sauce.

Over the Memorial Day weekend I was in town visiting my cousin and her boyfriend. While he was at work that Friday, me and my cousin went into town for lunch. We initially had another place in mind but they did not open till 4:00. I was looking around to see where we can go and pointed to this place across the street and my cousin without hesitation said yes! She told me she never dined in the bar area but had their pizza as carryout from next door and had nothing but good things to say. We were the only 2 inside so they're must've just opened so we ordered a drink while going over the menu. We went with a "14 Hawaiian pizza with bacon and my cousin was right, it was a very good pizza. It was hand tossed crust that kind of gave you almost thin crust vibes. The sauce was good and didn't skimp on it, plenty of toppings and reheated well the next day in the air fryer. I told my cousin that we are coming back to this place when I come back in September!

This was my first time having carbonara because it is usually made with pork. Our server was able to point out some pork free options highlighting that everything is made in house so I could order the carbonara without the prosciutto if I would like. I jumped on that bandwagon so fast! I had no idea I would be getting that plated table side but that was a nice surprise. Everyone who works here is so nice and customer focused. We had a truly lovely experience. I can't wait to come back! My only feedback is when they tell you it is peppery believe them. If you don't like peppery stay away from the carbonara. If you're like me, take it as it is served and enjoy all of it and the leftovers. If you're crazy opt for the additional topper of pepper at the very end. Food freshness and quality gains 5 stars, service 5 stars, ambiance 5 stars, and cleanliness also 5 stars! Great job guys!

The space is cozy and pretty large, with what looked to be a private area with a birthday party going on towards the back. Our server was really friendly and patient as we explored the menu, which features Sicilian items like pizza, pasta, and several starters. We wanted to try some appetizers so we ordered the cozze di mare (mussels) with white sauce, rotoli (eggplant rolls filled with Prosciutto di Parma, house-made tomato sauce and provolone cheese, baked then topped with basil), and a Caesar salad. The mussels and eggplant dish came out first and were delicious. I personally loved the eggplant rotoli the most - the eggplant was tender, the sauce was savory, and it was stuffed with cheese and prosciutto... yum! I would get this as a meal with a side of garlic bread for dipping. The mussels were nicely cooked and the sauce was subtle. The salad was crisp and fresh and I liked the different toppings (fresh tomatoes and sun dried tomatoes). The Caesar salad only comes in the large size, but it was good to share with the group. For dinner we shared a couple of pizzas - the bocce and a margherita. The freshly grated cheese over top was perfection - don't skip this! I loved all the toppings on the bocce (basically a version of a supreme pizza) but the pepperoni was my favorite with how crispy it got. The crust was missing a bit of flavor for me, but it was cooked well and not soggy. We were too stuffed for dessert but I'd come back for their cannoli or rotating cheesecake flavors! I want to try their pasta next also.
