Have eaten here for MANY years; unfortunately, it has been a slow spiral (quicker lately) into mediocrity at the very best. The pizza was once worth driving 30 minutes to get but no longer. We walk in and if the owner is not making the pizza, we walk right back out. The last several pizzas we have ordered would have been unacceptable even as a $2.00 frozen pizza. Wow! What a gem! We were up in Rockford for the Kick Off Summer Celebration and needed some dinner after some beers. I will be totally honest, we tried to go to Romona's Table first, but they already closed at 9pm... thought it would be a good idea for them to be open later for the celebration but hey I am not them so I don't know what they think is best. Anyway, we walked over to Marindes about 20 minutes before they close, which I am always hesitant to walk in somewhere before they close, but they were more than willing to serve us. A few young kids were working but honestly some of the nicest most attentive service I have encountered. Even after being there a long day, they were super open to conversing with us and sharing their knowledge as we asked them a lot about the wood fire pizza. This was an awesome experience and their pizzas were just phenomenal too. I order a personally smoked gouda on their gluten free option and who I was with ordered the personal size while mushroom. Gluten free is hard to come buy, so I am glad they had it and I didn't just have to order a salad. It was fun to watch them bake in the wood fire oven. We both loved our pizzas and can't wait to come back. Next time I totally want to sit outside! read more

There's always a fine line trying to find a pizza place that makes the kids happy but is also a legitimately GOOD pizza for mom and dad. Marinades is that place. Delicious wood fired pizzas made to order, perfect kid sized pizza meals that come with a drink, daily specials that rock (hello, $7 wine bottles??), and really nice staff/owners. Their $9.99 carry out deal is really perfect for my 3 boys on a busy day and my 5 yo LOVES their cheesy breadsticks. The mozzarella cheese they use on their pizzas is SO GOOD - milky and rich tasting, moist, and not salty. The crust is chewy and crisp and on the thinner side, which we prefer. Seriously so much better for not much more money than a chain pizza. Super cute inside too - I just wish they had a bigger outdoor eating area! read more

The only good part of this visit was the service, the young lady was prompt and very accommodating at taking our order. The Chicago Stix appetizer was okay, nothing to write home about. Over priced for bread sticks. I ordered the medium (12 inch) Margherita pizza priced at $16.79. Not a true Margherita, as it had some kind of herb puree, balsamic reduction and several threads of basil. Didn't see any tomato sauce or whole basil leaves. The pizza tasted like a frozen store bought pizza. It did not have a crispy crust. I asked the server what the temperature of the oven was and she said 615°F which for a Margherita pizza should be a minimum of 800°F. The taste was very bland. My wife ordered the medium (12 inch) Blues pizza priced at $19.79. She said the taste was alright. I thought after sharing a piece of her pizza that it was too salty. My over all impression was the food was mediocrity at best. Way over priced to the point that it was obvious that price gouging was happening in order to make up for shut down losses. They got us through the door once and it won't happen a second time sorry to say. read more

Service has really went downhill from the last couple times I've been there. The last two times we were in customers asked about the craft beers on tap and the servers just said "sorry I don't know". Really? Waitress takes a long time for simple requests and also getting waters for our table. I could understand if it's busy, but it definitely wasn't. Also side conversations from the back are loud and everyone in the restaurant can hear. Please hire staff with more experience. Toppings have also become really light. Put another log on the fire! Not sure what happened, but the last two times we've been here the food is just not the same. Tonight, my pizza tasted like a cheap store bought frozen pizza. Your wood fired oven is not nearly hot enough to give the crust the crisp it used to have. We also ordered the hummus/tabbouleh appetizer. The hummus is good but for $10, u should serve more than a couple tablespoons worth! Also ordered a Caesar side salad which cost $5. Again, the value does not equal the quantity. For that small of a salad, $1.50 would be a more appropriate price. The people who work there are wonderful! That was the only reason I gave u 2 stars. read more

Marinades is a very nice specialty pizza place at the same location as the former Oregano's. I stopped by on a whim to place a take out order and was pleasantly surprised. The pizza is wood fired, so the interior has that pleasant smokey smell. There is a small seating area of maybe a dozen tables in the front and down the side aisle toward the rear, but you place your order at the counter. The menu offers an assortment of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and pasta but the real highlight is the variety of pizza offerings. In addition to the usual toppings you'd expect of any pizza joint, they have a host of others. I counted 40 toppings, plus eight cheeses, six different sauces, and six different fresh herbs. I had the Tomato Herb pizza and I couldn't decide on another so I ordered their sampler pizza. Its a bit pricey, but you get to pick four of their specialty pizzas. I had The Blues, Chicken Artichoke, Chicken Barbeque, and Spicy Sausage. All five of the pies I tried were great, I'd get any of them again. My coworker and I eat here often and I don't think we have had one bad meal. We get most of our food to go and it's always fresh or hot. TJ who cooks and waits on you is super friendly and always asks you to come back in. He has even offered to bring food to us on snowy or rainy days. Service is an A++++ I think our favorite is the lunch special with bread sticks that come with dill sauce and then you get a fresh side salad. I have also tried the pizza and Gyros and everything has been so tasty! I would say check it out if you are in the area. read more

Overpriced Brick Hard Pizza anyone? Our pizza took about 30 minutes from ordering. They had 1 other table eating so there I'm not sure why the long wait. I noticed the server remove our pizza from the oven and it just sat outside the oven as he prepend our salads. When we eventually got our pizza it was dry as can be. The scene from christmas vacation came to mind as we tried dipping our brick hard pizza in ranch to be able to swallow it. We told our server that our pizza was dry and he just said "oh" and walked away. We ordered a large to have leftovers which was useless because when I offered it to my 9 year old she actually said, "no thanks, that pizza looks old and shriveled up". Perhaps the expensive pizza won't go entirely to waste, have some oil stains in the garage. I'll bet that dry pizza will suck all the oil out of the cement in no time! read more

Marinades has become one of our favorite go-tos for takeout during the pandemic! They are following COVID protocols and we feel as safe as we possibly can getting food from them. And it's delicious! Everything we've tried has been so GOOD! The pizzas are a given, but we also love their salads and appetizers! The Italian salad, wings and chicken nachos are our latest favorites. Stopped by here after spending a morning at the park with my extended family. We're from out of town and the kids (and a few adults) were jonesing for pizza. Incredible food and exemplary service! TeeJ took fantastic care of our party of 9 (including 4 small children), remembered our orders without writing them down, brought out extra sausage for the kids, showed them how the wood stove worked, and just made our lunch experience great. Being a Rockford resident, we have been here multiple times with good service and pizza. The stone fired pizza we ordered was good, but seemed to be more expensive than usual. The gluten free pizza crust is AWFUL - tasted like the box it came in and definitely not worth the same price as the standard crust. They aught to switch to cauliflower crust in my opinion. Entree sized salad cost was way too high for just a box of lettuce with a few shards of parmesan. Lastly - and most annoying - the server "forgot" to add a pop to our order. I had to turn around and go all the way back for it. He says we didn't pay for it, and promply charged me $2.59 for a micro pop that was filled with ice. Now, come on - wouldn't it have been better to just give it to us for free?? Since it was your mistake? I'm not planning to go back and neither will my family. So disappointed.... read more

The food is very delicious but the portion sizes seem to be shrinking. The last two times I ate here it was such a long wait. There were only maybe two other tables waiting. Portion was just right, so we were contentedly filled and didn't have to deal with leftovers.
