While they have a "store" for families to shop in, everything is completely free to the families that are accepted into their program. They have high quality standards on the things that they accept for the store, so they are not giving out torn or stained clothing, etc... Some complain that they throw out too many of their donations, but they do try to recycle anything that they do not keep for the store (for instance sending unacceptable clothing to a material recycling location). I've been donating time there for a few months now and love the experience.

My son did volunteer work there in the late 90s, sorting produce from local groceries so that the best was offered to needy families. The staff he worked with were phenomenal and generous with their time training volunteers. I have contributed to their regular collection drives. This is the time of year that they run their Let's Bag Hunger campaign. You can donate bags of groceries at many grocery stores and they can always use direct money donations too. The Angels took such good care of him before he passed, oh so many years ago. A simple check on him and the dropping off of food made me feel better when I couldn't be there. He would get a kick out of the idea that the ball-n-chain and I were out eating and drinking beer and toasting his name. "Drink to me" were Pablo Picasso's last words. Thomas was an artist and would have been down with that. There are always people at the event who have envelopes so you can drop off an extra bit of money for the cause. I highly encourage it. The inventory is continually cycling so each week you can find something new. Although the store is small, it is very aesthetic and clean. The bright lights and white shelves help make the space feel very open. I love the tables that display the books!! My favorite part has to be the quick survey. It's connected to a book counter that shows the count of books that have found new home, in real time! They also take donations so I don't have to worry about not having space for my new books. Lastly, right before you leave, there is a 15 second survey by the door that helps them keep track of how many books found a new home!
