My mother decided we needed balloons for my brother's birthday dinner. I was the chosen one to pick…read morethem up. I arrived to find the store fairly empty (of customers). The store itself seemed to be well-stocked and everything is pretty cheap. I picked a "Happy 21st" birthday balloon and 3 red ones to go with it. I decided to go with the red because my brother and I had an earlier conversation about how his favorite color was red. Anyway, I was instructed to go pay for them and then come back to get them. So, I paid for the balloons, and then I presented the receipt to the girl who was blowing them up and she passed them over to me. Unfortunately, it wasn't until then that I noticed that the balloons looked more PINK than RED. Crap. I should have gotten blue...because light blue is light blue whereas light red = pink. OH well, he'll deal...right? So I get out to the car when my mom calls and says, "Oh! Don't forget "Happy Birthday" napkins!" Argh. So back into the store I go. Now the store has filled up with more people collecting things for NYE parties and the single register that is open has a line of people with a crapton of things. When I finally make it to the front of the line, the manager is standing there also and basically chastising the girl for just about everything. I'm thinking...while the girl does need to be told what not to do, shouldn't they wait until after the customers clear out? It just seemed very unprofessional and really turned me off from ever wanting to return for party supplies. I paid and was on my way. Upon my return home the following conversation ensued: Mom: Uhh, why did you get pink balloons? Me: They're NOT pink, they're RED! Mom: No, they're pink. Dad: You should have gotten blue...PENN STATE blue! Mom: Wait, why didn't you get 2 "Happy 21st" balloons? I said to get 2. (No she didn't.) Brother: Uh, we need more beer. I don't think we have enough beer! And hey! Why did you get pink balloons?? Me: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh. ((See next review; Smitty's Liquor))

In reference to the woman who commented before me, when you get loose latex balloons, you pick them…read moreout of the bins yourself. Each bin is clearly labeled with the color of the balloons that're in it. They're labeled because balloons look a certain color before they're inflated, such as black, then when blown up, they lighten and can be purple, or green.. They have a bin labeled Red, and a bin labeled Magenta. It is your own fault that you got pink balloons, because you picked out pink balloons, and not red ones. I know this because this also happened to me. I showed up to pick up my balloons and they were pink. When I explained to the worker that I had wanted red ones, they told me about the labeled bins and then replaced the whole order of five magenta balloons with five red ones instead, apologised for MY mistake, and didn't charge me for the new ones.

This Spirit Halloween opens for the Halloween season where the Sears in Woodbridge Center used to…read morebe, although it occupies less than half of the upper level. The inventory here appears to be larger than that at the East Brunswick or South Plainfield locations. There is a slight department-store feel, since the space is so enormous and is divided into sections for children on the right and adults on the left. The first thing I noticed were kid costumes for Naruto, Bleach, Fortnite, Legend of Zelda, and Avatar Last Airbender--which are all popular albeit noticeably dated franchises. There was a large light-up set display in the back and another one in the front whose purpose I could not ascertain. Selfie stations, maybe? The adult costume selection is far less interesting, but I saw some costume sets for Coraline, Harry Potter, and Hanna-Barbera characters. If this store had newly licensed costumes from 2021 or later, I certainly couldn't find any. There are also about two racks' worth of basic makeup products and accessories by the far side of the store closest to the parking lot. It's nice to see this old, empty, depressing space being used for something festive since Sears closed in spring of 2020. Will plan to be back on November 1st.
