This time, I took class with Amber, and she is truly a 10 out of 10 -- from her character to her teaching style, choreography, and ability to educate dancers in real time. She doesn't just teach steps; she teaches movement vocabulary and helps you understand how to inhabit the choreography as it unfolds. That presence and clarity make the experience special. A lot of what I enjoy about Sass Class comes down to both the choreographers and the energy of the space. That said, there are some practical considerations. There is no elevator, which can be challenging because of the number of stairs you have to go up and down. The studio itself is small but functional. There's a small waiting area, a check-in desk, two bathrooms, and a spot to quickly change if needed. There are two studios, which allows classes to run smoothly without feeling crowded. The location is central, not far from Moynihan Train Hall or Port Authority, and there are plenty of food options nearby for before or after class. Overall, SASS Class continues to be a space I value. I fully intend to take more classes there in the future. For me, it's about the quality of instruction, the intentionality of the movement, and the community -- and that keeps drawing me back.

There was no sound insulation whatsoever. so it was hard to stay in the zone during class. They have a schedule updated monthly, with separate sign-up options for both member and non-members. As a non member, I paid for the drop-in class, which was $25. The class runs for an hour with around 10+ students, where an instructor first starts up with a quick warm-up and then jumps into teaching you a choreo to the song. The choreo is broken into several routines, so you learn them slowly in detail, and then piece them all together with the song incrementally. Dancing is as challenging for your brain as it is for your body, as you need to really exercise your memory and mind body coordination! The whole class went by super fast. Everyone who went seemed to be regulars and quite experienced, but you'd be too busy trying to master the dance to care. At the end, we are placed into two groups, where we are given a chance to perform and record ourselves. DivaDance emphasizes community as they have a whole FB group where you can see past dance classes and meet new members as well! I met some cool friendly people my first time and I'd totally attend more classes in the future!

Sign in process was easy and simple and they told me the room the class was going to be in. They also gave the brief reminder not to enter the class until the class that is currently in session is finished and everybody has exit from the class. The hallways of the studio is a bit tight so we had to shuffle around with the people that were coming out and the people that were waiting for the next class but we may do. The size of the class room is a decent size for the amount of people that showed up. The teacher was very informative and assisted with steps and would go over steps as well just for the people that may have missed steps. There was also apart in the class where you got to work with a partner that was fun you got to meet different people. Afterwards for like 5 minutes we had a little dance "party" where you could do anything that you learned from the class.

I understand the classes are popular but I do think it's doing a disservice to the instructors and students when you make a class so crowded. I am trying to give an honest and fair review because I do try my best and I love the instructors. I hope PMT will please take this into consideration and reduce the number of students in a class to make beginner and adv beginner classes actually beginner and adv beginner friendly!

This place is deserving of it's glowing reviews…read more I signed up for a Friday evening Beginner's hip hop class with Ryan who was covering for Rob that day. As someone with zero dance experience, I found the pace of the class too quick and had a hard time keeping up, but that's not anyone's fault. If you have two left feet like me, it can feel intimidating and honestly, discouraging because all the students are great dancers (seriously, have you seen the class videos?), but as Ryan said..practice makes perfect and you just have to keep at it. Despite the nerves, I'd come again because the classes would be a great way to get out of your comfort zone (if you're not a dancer and/or have stage fright) and build confidence. I also recommend dragging a friend to go with you if it's your first time. For you first timers, the building is right to Taco Bell (burritos after class, anyone? Haha) and staples is on the corner of the same block. classes are on the 4th floor. When you get into the building, show your ID to the front desk and they'll give you elevator access. Classes are on the 4th floor and you don't need to check in with them at the front desk. Once the class begins, the receptionist in your studio will check you in. There's a changing room and you leave your belongings in the studio. As for dress code, wear athleisure or something comfortable. I saw jeggings, shorts, tanks, leggings, and sweats. I'm not sure if all the classes are like this so don't take my word for it, but it begins with a 15-20 minute warmup, followed by 45-60 minutes of learning choreography, and ending with 10-15 minutes of "groups" where students are split up to have more room, followed by the opportunity to get your groove on with an even smaller group. Each group goes twice--once with the instructor guiding you, the second time without. You'll also be shuffling to different ends of the room so you can get closer if you need to. Also, each instructor chooses what they're teaching so you don't know the song choice beforehand. Now onto the actual class..Ryan is a great instructor. He breaks down all the steps clearly and at a reasonable pace. He'll repeat them as many times as you need. Again, I struggled because I take longer to learn, but despite that, I enjoyed the class. The room is small for a class with about 40 people but the high energy and positive vibes you'll get more than make up for it. Overall, I'd go again. FYI, If the class is full, you get put on the waitlist (max of up to 10 people can be on this list) and you'll be added to the class as people drop out. If you haven't heard by 11am the next day via email (cut off time to drop a class before late cancellation penalty), you can use that credit towards a different time unless you want to continue waiting to see if the class frees up.

There is also a list of scheduled classes so you can see the instructor that is teaching each class. One of the things that I really like about the hip hop classes is how much repetition is utilized to learn a choreographed routine. As a dancer of many years, 50% of the battle is memory and repetition of each mini-sequence really helps a new dancer solidfy not only the choreography but also master the details of the steps. All the instructors are extremely friendly and approachable, not necessarily so at other places. Not to mention, they do have their own different styles to accommodate different dancers' personalities. Check-in is always a smooth process with HoM staff. All the dancers that attend are super supportive and really nice as well. Nobody ever judges. I wish HoM was out here in the Bay now that I've moved. I've come to love my HoM family in my short time living in NYC. They've only added to the love that I now have for NY.

Everybody's just there to have a good time and flail around the music to the best of their abilities. It's much more about moving and pumping some cardio into your day so no need to feel insecure about your dancing abilities - you're gonna fit in and have a great time! There's also a DJ for every class which is a delightful touch that adds to the party atmosphere. The AMENITIES! WOAH! If you need to take a shower and get ready here, there are two showers in the women's locker room and they're full of Malin + Goetz products. They also have great hair products and a Dyson you can use with a diffuser if needed! The bathroom isn't huge so I could see it getting a little congested and stressful getting ready in the bathroom but wouldn't be a problem if you go during off hours. Overall, this might be my favorite fitness class I've taken in New York City and I will definitely be coming back regularly.

As soon as I stepped in, the staff by the counter greets us and are super helpful and friendly. Keep in mind they look for vaccine verification. There's lockers and showers available. The locker area was really dark, with a water fountain station. And once you open a door, there's the studio! My instructor was so energetic! I thought they would be calm from the reviews, but no no! Not only were they so motivating and fun, but the DJ by the corner mixed trendy songs to match their vibes. We pretty much do dance cardio moves to different pop music the whole class, with a yoga mat ab workout in between. I loved how the lights danced along to the music change. The instructor really embraces feeling confident and loving your body throughout the whole class, that you just finish your class feeling good about yourself. I'm so happy exercising and fun can exist in the same sentence, thanks to 305 Fitness. I would totally come back whenever I want to party but also sweat it out.

I followed walking paths that wound through planted gardens, with seating areas distributed throughout. Two elevated hills at either end of the island offered different vantage points looking back at the skyline and out over the river. The Hudson River views were wide and unobstructed, and the perspective on the surrounding city from the water level was one I do not get from the street. Sunset is the most popular time to visit and draws the largest crowds. I came on a weekday morning, which gave me a more relaxed version of the park with better access to seating and a quieter atmosphere. Food trucks were present, and the proximity to Chelsea Market makes the surrounding area practical for extending the visit into a meal nearby. Admission is free and the park is accessible via ramps throughout. The small amphitheater hosts performances during the warmer months, which adds another reason to check what is scheduled before going. For a stop that requires no planning and delivers consistently, Little Island is one of the easier recommendations in the city.

Admission is completely free, although donations are accepted to help preserve this incredible place--which is amazing considering how well maintained it is. It's the perfect destination to spend about two hours, whether you want to enjoy a peaceful stroll, take plenty of photos, or do a little of both. The breathtaking views of the Hudson River and the Palisades make the visit even more memorable. There's also plenty of free parking, which makes getting there easy. The only reason I'm giving four stars instead of five is that it can get fairly crowded on beautiful weekends, but it's absolutely worth visiting and returning to throughout the year.

As a former competitive swimmer, it was extremely difficult to do flip turns, not only because they closed half of the pool horizontally due to lifeguard staffing issues, but also because there were multiple people moving in different directions. It was busy when it first opened in the morning but then calm downed a bit and folks were able to do more lap swimming. Water was pretty clean and temperature was good; chlorine levels weren't too bad. Sounds like they close for the fall/winter so I'm hoping to come back before it gets cold.

I was invited to a business party at the Fred Astaire studios. My wife, Jodi, accompanied me and we both had so much fun learning the few steps from different ballroom dances that night. In our goodie bag was a free lesson. We decided to try it. We again had so much fun, a week later we called and signed up for 20 lessons. I think we are now on lesson 120. We go twice a week, and now we're even getting instructed via Zoom, since we weren't up for the Via/Uber rides during Covid. The results are, we haven't gained an ounce during Covid. We love our instructors Olga and Artur and the entire group. We have even made some friends there. (Racquel is an awesome long time dancer there!) Our posture and moves in Ramba, Salsa, ChaCha and the Hustle are improving like crazy. We love practicing at home, but we are looking forward to getting back to the studio, to clubs opening and becoming professional wedding guests on the dance floor---LoL. read more

Fred Astaire's 34th and 3rd location is definitely it's best studio. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly making you feel very comfortable. Our teacher, Jessa Mae Briones, is an absolute star - we were very lucky to find her. Jessa helped prepare us for our wedding dance, teaching us both separately and together when our schedules lined up. She created a great routine and made the whole experience so enjoyable. Jess is a fantastic teacher and also a national dance champion so she really knows what she's doing. She divided our routine into easy to digest chunks and explained the steps very clearly. She also drilled us until we didn't have to think about the dance and used video feedback to highlight where we could improve. Jessa was a source of constant encouragement and inspiration. We couldn't recommend her highly enough - we'll be back for more lessons in the future. read more

My fiancé and I wanted to take lessons in preparation for our wedding. We had an initial consultation with Levani and loved his energy and his vision for our dance (a combination of foxtrot and rumba). We signed up for a package of five lessons, and it was a great choice. He was super patient with us since we are beginners who were initially stepping all over each other's feet. In the end, we were very confident going into our dance, and everyone thought we had been ballroom dancing together for years. We had some extra time during our lessons, and Levani taught us the Hustle, which is really fun and high energy. We had so much fun dancing at our wedding. The whole staff at Fred Astaire 34th street if very friendly and accommodating, and we are thinking of taking more lessons just for fun. We would highly recommend. read more

My girlfriend and I decided to take classes here, just for fun. All of the instructors are wonderful! Very welcoming and fun to be around. We approached our first lessons quite shy and inexperienced but were quickly given confidence through the clear and fun individual direction. Our instructors, Jessa and later Anthony, were respectful of our pace and interests. We did not have a performance or event to prepare for, so our time in the studio was just for fun. We worked through their first two lesson plans over many months. The lessons did seem very rigid, but at the end of the day, we could just talk to our instructors about what interested us, and therefore what to focus on. Monthly events like dance parties and performances helped put our lessons into context and were just generally fun hangs. read more

I joined Fred Astaire Midtown on the recommendation of one of their long time students, and I'm so glad that I did! I was warmly welcomed by all their wonderful, and very talented staff, and my teacher, Anthony, is a brilliant dancer! Very patient, and a fabulous teacher. The studio itself, is spotless and every protocol is followed, as far as cleanliness and hygiene is concerned. There is a lovely warm atmosphere, and they make you feel like part of their family. i have a very hectic job at the UN. Once I was walking and saw Fred A. Dance Studio, I stopped by and the welcoming by staff was amazing, they showed me people were dancing and explained everything to me. I have decided immediately to join them and had an appointment. My instructor Artor is amazing. 45 minutes every session is not enough to me, as it flows really fast. This studio clearly employs highly skilled and experienced ballroom dancers. The staff creates a very cordial and low stress atmosphere and there is no pressure to sign up for extended programs, although I feel that's what most students do. The instructors are not only skilled dancers, but really easy to follow teachers. I am a male student with a female teacher, but anytime there is a sticking point on a tricky step, a male teacher will quickly and happily jump in to show the step from the lead's vantage point. We had so much fun taking lesson for our first dance! Hectar was amazing and so patient. Not only was our wedding dance great but we had so much fun going to class. We will probably go just for fun here and there. He helped make my now husband feel comfortable dancing and letting lose while teaching him the basics. I joined the studio in June 2023 and I have been studying with Slava ever since. He is amazing instructor and always tries to find alternative ways to explain me technique if I don't get something. (We did four classes total.) Gail takes the time to choreograph the dance too which is not always a given with private dance lessons. Patience (5/5): Truly one of the most patient instructors we have come across. Took the time to teach each section slowly and accurately. We learned our dance in three sessions and Gail was pivotal in making this happen. In the final session she helped polish some areas to help elevate the dance to another level! She was incredibly helpful in walking us through the moves (even when we were starting from VERY little experience) and incorporating our feedback on stuff we'd hoped to include in our first dance. She was both educational and fun, and created a very supportive learning environment. We've since advised a few other couples to check this place out, and to our knowledge, they've all had great things to say, too. So much of wedding planning is an annoying slog that you have to keep some of it exciting and fun, and our sessions with NY Wedding Dance definitely were some of the best highlights of wedding prep in that regard. We also need to give a special shout-out to Stine and Gail (the owner) for making the COVID wedding experience such a smooth one. When we cancelled our original wedding date in May 2020, Gail reached out to check in on how we were doing and was super flexible on the timings of our scheduled appointments, which meant so much in terms of a personal touch at a stressful time. She also reached out on our original wedding date, which we were both super impressed by as one of the most thoughtful gestures we encountered from our wedding vendors. Weddings are crazy right now. If you're like us, you need something to keep the process chill and enjoyable and romantic, and you probably want to work with people who are flexible and compassionate and invested in their couples. In my case I was asked to leave a class so I will comment on friendliness of the staff, in particular the one woman I spoke with. I came in for what was advertised to be an advanced beginner class on the website. Once I got there, I went up to the leader of the class to say that it was my first time at the studio. She asked me to dance on the spot with no music and I failed the test. After that I was asked to leave. I subsequently requested to stay for 5 minutes to see what the class was like, and she denied permission to do so. As a last resort I asked her to recommend other places for me and she refused and walked away. I hope to communicate to the staff and other people reading this that sometimes people just want an apology. You know, I altered my schedule and came from NJ to take this class, and you kicked me out without any kind of sympathy. It is a really basic thing to just say things nicely and apologize for giving inaccurate information on your website. Overall it was an unpleasant experience but I'm sure it would've been fun if I had the chance to dance. Nevertheless I'm never coming back here.
