Came to this location for beginner dance class. Upon entering you take the elevator to the second floor for the studio. When you get off the elevator there's a few benches there that you can sit and wait and a desk for you to register/sign in. Sign in process was easy and simple and they told me the room the class was going to be in. They also gave the brief reminder not to enter the class until the class that is currently in session is finished and everybody has exit from the class. The hallways of the studio is a bit tight so we had to shuffle around with the people that were coming out and the people that were waiting for the next class but we may do. The size of the class room is a decent size for the amount of people that showed up. The teacher was very informative and assisted with steps and would go over steps as well just for the people that may have missed steps. There was also apart in the class where you got to work with a partner that was fun you got to meet different people. Afterwards for like 5 minutes we had a little dance "party" where you could do anything that you learned from the class. read more

I love the instructors but I do think the number of people they have per class is to big and they should adjust the maximum occupancy. I'm a beginner AND short so it's incredible hard for me to learn when I can't see myself and the instructor. It makes me feel so disappointed when it's too crowded to do anything about it. I give myself whatever chance I can to be up front, even come early to secure a spot but then we need to switch out lines to let others see. I understand the classes are popular but I do think it's doing a disservice to the instructors and students when you make a class so crowded. I am trying to give an honest and fair review because I do try my best and I love the instructors. I hope PMT will please take this into consideration and reduce the number of students in a class to make beginner and adv beginner classes actually beginner and adv beginner friendly! read more

I love PMT!!! Their basic and beginner classes are perfect for adults looking to come back to dance after a number of years. Camryn is an amazing teacher! I've done two performance intensives with her and she is extremely approachable, and also does a great job balancing the needs of both new and experienced dancers in the class! read more

*****UPDATE***** I wrote my original review on Tuesday AFTER having a really disappointing conversation with the staff and BEFORE the class in the evening. The staff said she'd waive the late fee but I have to lose the credit as she put it as"you have to lose something you can't have everything". I understand during COVID time there are more restrictions with the timing and capacity that business has to adjust. However, the business used to always call when it's within 12 hours of the class and that's my understanding, and I have the phone records to corroborate that even though the staff denied it yesterday on our phone conversation. She offered to waive the late fee but I decided to NOT CANCEL and take the class anyway. ***BTW I enjoyed the class as always. This review is about the staff and how they do business, not about the teachers. On the same night, I tried to manage my class booking and found that I was unable to book any class through the Glofox app they have been using, so I emailed them. Believe it or not, even though I had a really bad experience with the staff, I wasn't going to lose the credits I already paid and intended to use them all. This morning I received a lengthy email from the staff basically saying they froze my account and I am not welcome there anymore because I posted a bad review. First of all, this is the first time EVER in my life that I encountered where the business just canceled you without telling you when you already bought services from them. This business cannot handle criticism and the only way they deal with it is to kick you out. I don't really write reviews. The handful of reviews I wrote in my entire life are only for extreme good services (I need people to know how awesome they are) or the really bad ones so people should watch out, and this is a really bad one. It's beyond me how they treat people. *****Original Review***** I started taking classes as a basic/beginner in dancing. Classes are fine and I had fun in some of the classes. But, the staff communication, services, and how they manage their bookings are horrible. They switched from Mindbody app to Glofox app a few weeks back. The new app will not ask remind you or ask you when/if you are being moved from the waitlist to the class. They have a 12 hour late cancelation policy where you get charged a fee AND lose the credit if you cancel within 12 hours. Happened to me more than twice where the night before the class I was still on the waitlist with more than 3 people (the class is small like 10 people max) and the next time I wake up I'm moved to the class where I am not able to attend but it falls within the 23 hour window so now I will be charged for BOTH late cancelation fee AND 1 credit for the class. When I started going to PMT in Feburary they used to ALWAYS call me if it falls within 12-hour window to ask if I want to be moved from the waitlist so I don't get moved automatically without me knowing. Called several times for similar situations and staff was rude. The emails they sent out after a late cancel was rude and unprofessional like "venmo us now or your account will be frozen". I'm using up the credits I have left and will never come to this studio ever again. read more

You know, I was kinda skeptical when I had to walk up three rickety flights of stairs to get to the studios. And I was still skeptical when I walked into the small studio for a Beginners Hip Hop class and it was pretty packed. But once the class got going and we started dancing and laughing, my skepticism disappeared. We started off the class with some stretching (which I was expecting) and then some floor workouts like crunchs and planks (which I was not expecting). I really appreciate that they incorporate other workouts into the class, because most dance studios won't have you doing planks as part of your warmup. But it was a great way to get my blood pumping and also work out other parts of my body that I wouldn't otherwise by dancing. After the stretching, we learned a routine to "Calm Down" by G-Eazy (which is a very catchy song, by the way). The teaching was fast-paced but still relatively easy to follow along, and at the end we took turns performing the choreo for each other, which was fun. I owe the great time I had at PMT Studios to the instructor Alan Watson, who is really funny and charismatic and who also breaks down the dance moves in a way that everyone can follow along. He kept us laughing and moving and made the 90-minute class fly by! Honestly, I plan on coming back to this studio just so I can keep attending his classes. read more

I took a Yoga Booty Ballet class here from Classpass. This was a great experience! The instructors were very energetic and I felt like there really was no judgement in the classroom. I really enjoyed dancing to the music and I didn't feel like dying due to the heat since there were 3 ACs in the room. This was my first time doing a class like this and it was a bit fast pace for me to try to keep up with. After a while, I got used to some of the moves and I felt like it was a good thing that they switched up the moves to change with the songs that we were dancing to. Changing rooms were down the hall from the entrance and I wasn't sure where they were at first. When I found it, it was a small room with a few mirrors and small lockers. Not a bad space for a few people to change. The small lockers aren't really necessary because you can leave your stuff on the benches in the classrooms. Overall I had a great time and experience here and would love to take another class. read more

I've been taking classes here since 2011. It's a very nice local studio where you meet good people and get a fun dance experience. Now they are doing everything to make us safe, and everyone is wearing masks during the class. Perfect spot to enjoy dancing safely. read more

just now Terrible school for kids. They shouldn't and don't know how to teach kids. Our son loves to dance. Or at least used to before our experience at pmt. they were mean and condescending to a 9 year old. Not a supportive or nurturing environment for boys. I guess that's why there's only a few kids enrolled. They simply don't have the capacity or patience to encourage positive growth. If your kid loves to dance, be careful here. They could extinguish your child's love for dance and make it a horrible experience. Within just two months our son went from being extremely happy to dance to crying and refusing to go. Such a bummer. There are so many other positive companies in the city. Go elsewhere. read more

For our wedding we wanted our first dance to be romantic, fun, silly and creative. Ambitious we know Especially bc my husband and I aren't professional By any means. I do dance cardio 3x a week and he is athletic but they had their work cut out for them. Pavan taught us the waltz and was great about perfecting of form and we have gave him some Beyoncé and jagged edge songs to add too. Him and Mica taught us over and over again. We learned so much and had so much fun! Our first dance was a highlight of our bit our day! We highly recommend them to all couples. They are sweet, helpful, talented and professional. And we had about 6 classes for our dance but if you are just doing one style and one song 4-5 is plenty. We had so much fun we invited to our wedding but it was pretty last minute so they had a conflict but politely declined. Thanks again!! read more

I was really excited to take a class at PMT but left feeling disappointed. I was considering signing up for the performance intensive this fall and figured I would try a class first before committing. The class felt very cliquey and overall was not a very welcoming or inclusive environment. I grew up dancing for 15 years and as an adult, I take class as a fun way to workout, and I left PMT feeling excluded and like I wasn't good enough, which isn't how I like to feel with something I'm doing just for fun. read more

So, let me start off by saying that I am not a dancer. I have never done any choreography in my life, and I am one of the most uncoordinated people you will ever meet. I fell off a bike recently that had training wheels on them. I'm 26 years old. A group of my friends have been taking the beginners hip hop dance courses on Thursdays for a while. They somehow convinced me to try it out. I walked in my first class expecting the worst. I was sort of expecting the dance instructor to be like the drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket. And I expected to be... well... the fat guy from Full Metal Jacket. To my surprise, the instructor was very kind and made sure that everyone in the class felt comfortable. And I even found my inner dancer. My inner Janet from the Rhythm Nation Days if you will. The first half of the class was spent breaking down each move of the routine individually in succession. The second half was the class broken into groups perfecting the moves and dancing off against the other groups. It sounds intimidating, but by the second half you find yourself so in it, that you're just having a good time. It also helps that there's always one person you think is worse than you. If you don't find that person, then you are that person, and I'll pray for you. You can watch from the corner. If someone puts you in a corner, you tell them, "No one puts baby in the corner.". Or go cry in the bathroom. By the end of a few weeks, I was pop locking and dropping it like it's hot. Now, I go strictly by my street dancer name "Street Meat" and use words like "choreo" and "What??!!" Represent. Look out for me in the next Step Up or on Janet's next tour. Not really. I'm still awful. I'm more like Elaine from Seinfeld than Usher. But when you're having this much fun with your old friends and new friends, who cares? read more

I emailed PMT and asked to reserve space for Monday December 10th, 2012 from 10:00am - 3:00pm. We discussed the availability and hourly pricing (which was originally quoted me as being $15.00 per hour). Once both items were confirmed, I was asked to call the studio so I could reserve the rental with a credit card. As asked, I phoned PMT and again stated I was calling to reserve a studio for 12/10/12. I was then quoted a price of $40.00 per hour. This was slightly off-putting. At my concern for the $25.00 per hour rate increase The PMT employee on the phone double checked the rate and came back with $25.00 per hour. He stated that the $15.00 per hour rate was exclusively for nonprofits. Understandably, I was more than happy to accept the 2nd rate of $25.00 per hour. (Though in the end I was actually charged $20.00 per hour. Curious.) I was sent the paperwork, read through the liability statement, signed and filled out the forms, and faxed the paperwork back to PMT. I also emailed to confirm that PMT had received my paperwork. What I missed, and ADMITTEDLY acknowledge was my mistake, was that the rental form I was sent had the incorrect date written on it. Halfway down the form there was ONE line dated 12/3/12, a detail I was unaware of until I showed up at PMT fully thinking I had a reservation for that day. You can imagine my shock when I arrived with all of my equipment and dancers in tow for a full day of work. Sweet. Looking at the paperwork I was embarrassed to have not caught the mistake before signing. I will note that the level of redundancy in emailing about a reservation for 12/10/12, then phoning to give my credit card information for 12/10/12, then faxing (my fax cover letter even indicated "studio reservation for 12/10/12") definitely gave me a sense of security I was getting a reservation for 12/10/12 especially since I NEVER ONCE MENTIONED (in writing or verbally) 12/3/12 as an option. PMT basically let me sign off on an arbitrary date of their choice - nice. While I wasn't at my best when I learned I didn't have a rental that day, the PMT employee (I later learned this was the PMT director) who interacted with me at the studio was unusually unhelpful and dismissive. He brusquely handed me my paperwork, angrily showed me I had the date wrong then disappeared. My boyfriend said he did not return to his post until I stepped away to start making calls to find a new location. I later emailed the PMT director to contest their customer service and was told that in 11 years of business they have never made a booking mistake and my situation was the first of its kind. I don't know about you, but I doubt it is possible to go 11 years of doing anything and not make ONE mistake. He excused his gruff behavior by saying he had been "attending to a health concern for a patron" which is why he seemed distracted and disinterested in dealing with me. He then proceeded to coldly regurgitate some formalities about the invoice being a 'binding contract'. His calculating and unsurprised manner throughout seemed practiced and I still have my suspicions that I'm not the first person to have had this type of experience with PMT. In his email he also claimed that had I stuck around instead of immediately jumping on the phone to fix my situation (um, who wouldn't immediately enter reconnaissance mode?), he would have tried to accommodate me by putting me in a space they rent across the street. Right, so what ACTUALLY happened while I was on the phone was he told my boyfriend, in front of my dancers, there was "nothing he could do and there was no other space available". No part of this whole interaction indicated he was going to try and do me any favors. This pretty much let me know me that in the end, the people who run PMT are, at the very least, liars. It is my belief they knowingly saw I had signed off on the wrong date to grift a measly $100.00 from me. Sigh... no matter how bruised my ego maybe for not carefully reviewing that invoice at least I am willing to admit when I've made a mistake. Lesson learned. PMT should have presented me an invoice with the correct date on it in the first place instead of sighting their 'infallible' track record. I am lucky to have extensive knowledge about rental studios in the City, the financial means to make another last minute reservation, personal transportation and dancers who know me well enough to know I do not normally make this type of mistake. I know MOST artists aren't so fortunate and I assure you I will never trust this type of redundancy ever again nor recommend PMT Studios to anyone in the future. read more

I've always wanted to learn how to dance, but I never took the initiative to enroll in a dance class or take professional lessons. In August, however, I decided to sign up for PMT's beginner's hip hop dance class. I had high hopes for the class, but the actual experience exceeded even my high expectations. Alan Watson was my instructor and he is AMAZING! Alan is one of the nicest, most genuine guys you'll ever meet, and he always takes the time to explain moves thoroughly, no matter how many times we might have screwed up. As this was a beginner's class, most of us came in with no prior dancing experience, and thus, we frequently messed up and/or needed the moves to be explained and repeated multiple times. Alan never once expressed an ounce of annoyance or frustration with any of us and was extremely kind and patient. He's not just a great dancer, but he's an excellent teacher as well. One of the things I really liked about the experience was the fact that in addition to meeting with us weekly to practice in the studio, Alan recorded tutorial videos every week and emailed them to the entire class, allowing us to practice at home as well. This worked particularly well for me because I need to learn things at my own pace a lot of the time and wasn't able to learn every single move as thoroughly as I'd have liked to during the lessons in the actual dance studio. The videos allowed me to practice moves I felt less confident about and perfect the moves I was better at from the comfort of my own home. Today was our showcase recital, and I can honestly say that deciding to take a class at PMT was a really great decision. I'm so satisfied with the experience that I'm signing up for a spring class with Alan as well! I'd highly recommend PMT for anyone in New York that's interested in dance, especially beginners with no prior experience like myself looking for a suitable dance studio. I have reviewed a lot of dance studios... what I experienced at this studio is some of the poorest instruction and THE worst management. I wouldn't recommend that anyone give this business their money, you will NEVER get it back. I signed up for 2 performance classes...after reading the reviews on Yelp I assumed it would be at the very least an acceptable level of quality...it's not. In salsa I was manhandled by creepy guys trying to force me to do turns. Physically forcing your dance partner to do what you want is a great way to guarantee that the person will never want to come back. For hip hop, the studio manager Pavan could have easily scheduled 2 normal sized classes with all the people he stuffed in one. And hey, if you don't like it, guess what? No refunds. For Pavan's hip hop class there were so many people I couldn't see what the instructor was doing. Pavan was also rude and unprofessional the second I asked for a refund. Not real sure how this place merits these positive reviews. Piel Canela is way better if you want to dance for fun (and look good while you're dancing). read more

I survived my first Hip Hop class at PMT Dance Studio today! I actually bought a livingsocial ($25 for 8 classes) last year March 2011, but something always seems to come up. Fast forward to March 2012. The voucher is expiring in a few weeks so I decided to cut the b.s. and go for the first available class on the schedule. My class was amazing! My instructor, Alan, is one super funny and talented guy. We started off with about half an hour of warming up. Then he gave us an option to choose between three different songs. I have two left feet and was tripping left and right, but the class really got my blood pumping. I had an awesome time and depending on how sore my muscles are I might just go back for Contemporary Dance tomorrow. About PMT: 1. If you have any valuables you can store your things in the lockers inside the dressing room. Locks are $1 to rent or you can bring your own. Most people leave their stuff to the side of the dance studios. 2. This is a no frills studio and I kind of like it that way. PMT consists of two studios and bathrooms, changing rooms, and a shower. 3. I'm not sure if everyone there today is trying to redeem their livingsocial voucher or because Alan is such a great instructor or both, but there are lots of students today. Surprisingly, there is enough space for everyone. 4. Proper attire (for hip hop class at least) seems to be tank/t-shirt with sweats or shorts. Something comfortable. 5. Do not try to hide in the back. The rows are going to rotate and everyone gets their chance to be in the front row. You may trip and fall (pretend like you're doing it on purpose ;) ), but it's no biggie. At the end of the day, it really is a great workout and I feel less guilty about devouring half the box of Reese's Chip Ahoy in the afternoon. read more

Huge fan of this studio! When I first moved to New York I was looking for a place to dance and although I knew of Broadway Dance Centre, I was attracted to PMT because of the closer knit circle of friends I built up here doing the performance workshops - everyone here is like my second family! There is a great range of different styles of dance class offered and one of the few dance studios that actually offers beginners classes that are really beginners classes! Keep an eye out for Living Social deals which are excellent when they come up. I love doing the performance workshops because as a non-professional dancer, someone who dances just because I love it, it gives me the chance to perform a few times a year. They are intense and you definitely have to be committed but it brings you together as part of the workshop group, you'll have tons of fun, improve your dancing and make some great friends while your at it :) read more

My fav dance studio in Manhattan! Not as big as BDC or Steps but you'll find a super friendly atmosphere and excellent classes and teachers. Classes are never to crowded so the teachers can follow you personally. I tried breakin', hip hop, jazz, house, the open sessions and loved every single one of it. I recommend the workshops too because they offer a good opportunity to perform at the seasonal showcase. Last summer they also hosted a "Art of battle" workshop, focused on learning how to dance in a freestyle battle. Another plus are the cards with 5, 10 or 20 classes: cheaper than in the other studios and they last for 1 year, which is great! Highly recommended. read more

Dancing is my anti-drug ... and PMT is the gateway to my anti-drug =D Don't expect a flashy studio - this place is bare-bones basic but holds raw dance classes! Only housing 2 dance rooms, 2 bathrooms, a shower, and a changing area - it's definitely not the fanciest place but it gets the job done. I've only taken the drop-in hip hop classes with Alan Watson & recently with Levi Claiborne but they were both really great. Different styles of dance & different personalities but you can feel the straight up passion for dance they have. $16 for a 1.5 hour class really isn't too bad compared with the other dance classes out there. You start off with warm-ups for about 15 mins and then straight dancing from there. If there is enough time towards the end of the class, the class is usually split up into groups and have their moments to shine by performing together! There are ample moments for water breaks & there is a free water jug near studio A. The only downfall I've ever experienced with this place was when they offered 8 classes for $25 through LivingSocial (ok I admit I was a part of this deal too - too good to pass up!). During this time, the drop in hip hop classes were PACKED and in Alan's class he gives us a choice between 3 songs in the beginning of class to dance to. For about 3 of my 8 sessions, we did the same routine as a result. It wasn't that bad as it gave me a chance to hone the choreo but I really wanted to learn new things each time. Conveniently located on 14th Street, the PMT studios are walking distance from Union Square and many other subway. I used these studios for many years, both as a dance teacher and while rehearsing with my dance company. The staff is friendly and young, always ready to help you. The changing rooms are modest, but remember you're in New York City and space is precious. The floors and mirrors are good and the main studio has windows on half the walls, which gives great light. read more

I started dancing only a couple years ago at the age of 25 after having never taken a dance class in my life. At several studios in the city the basic classes were clearly not for total beginners and were much too hard for me. A beginner class at PMT really is for beginners, and was perfect for me. I've been going there for two years now very regularly, and I really enjoy it and have improved a lot. I saw that a previous review said there was no warmup routine, which has definitely not been true of the classes I've taken there. The jazz class warm up kicked my ASS and even the hip hop and popping had a solid warm up/stretch. I've also taken private lessons from the studio's owner and learned a LOT of Michael Jackson/James Brown type stuff. It is smaller (usually anywhere from 5-20 people per class) and slightly more beat up than a place like BDC, but if you don't mind that then I'd strongly recommend it. I've gone from scratch to being able to hold my own in a class, and I've had an amazing time learning at PMT. read more

I sought to rent this space to teach my fitness classes and appreciated the fast response to my email, but... THE SHORT VERSION: -they need to include contact information in their correspondences, that includes the name of whomever is answering the email and, if available, a telephone number for the business. -they can practice including other pertinent information when setting up appointments, such as who the appointment is with, any restrictions on how and when to access the space, and who to call should the need for further assistance arise. -they can practice listening to and empathizing with their potential clientele, and looking to improve on their future interactions. THE LONG STORY: -I set up an appointment to see the space but when I arrived, I wasn't able to access the correct floor. -After unsuccesfully trying both the stairs and elevator, scouring my correspondence with the PMT rep (who never actually identified themselves in our emails) for a phone number and finding the the rep never shared one, and struggling with slow/inefficient internet service to unsuccessfully find the number online, I waited in the seating area of the business on the floor above, who graciously called the studio on my behalf to inquire what was going on. -The 3rd floor relayed to me that a PMT rep would be present at the time of my appointment, so at the time of my appointment I got in the elevator pressed the button and still ended up in the lobby. I then sent an email detailing the scenario and left. -20 minutes later, I received a response and after telling them everything I did to trouble shoot the scenario they wrote back with a pointed message detailing everything I SHOULD have done to trouble shoot the issue (99% of which I already told them I tried to do), sharing that 'everyone else was able to get in they don't know what happened with me', and then ended with what was essentially 'by the way, we can't help you anyway, good luck'. IN CONCLUSION PMT Dance Studios' new customer welcome needs serious attention, and they could do with way more clarity in their correspondences. read more

I'm writing this review in support of Nikki Nasto, instructor for Basic/Beginner Ballet. I've been going to her classes at PMT for over a year now, and it's because of her that I've stuck with ballet for as long as I have. I don't have a dance background, and dance - all forms of dance - does not come easily to me. Despite how awful I was, Nikki always had the patience to give me corrections and she always had something encouraging to say. Her class is very lax and intimate, but that doesn't mean you won't learn anything or won't work up a sweat. She focuses a lot on technique, so expect to learn ballet, the dance form, not ballet-as-a-disguise-for-fitness. She knows how to teach adult beginners and she won't ever leave you to flail on your own in the back. Almost every week, she continues to give me tips and suggestions after class has ended. That's the kind of teacher she is. PMT isn't known for ballet, but I've taken adult beginner classes at BDC, Alvin Ailey, and Joffrey. I know how intimidating their classes can be, especially as a complete beginner. I also know how it can feel like you're lost in a sea of people with no clue as to whether you're doing something correctly. You won't feel that way in Nikki's class. No matter what level you are at, she'll encourage you to keep coming and to work at your own pace. If it weren't for her, I would've been frightened out of adult beginner ballet in less than 2 months. As of this review, I'm close to a year and a half, and I have every intention of continuing. read more

DANGER: WARNING TO WOMEN Ned Williams Jr (Int Dunham Technique) will grab with two full hands your entire ass, cup both breasts and comment on how lovely your body may be. Had to ask for a full refund for the first time in my professional career as a dancer after describing these actions. Front desk (Pavan) says there is a warning about how 'he yells' on their website but did not see any issue with the sexual harassment. This is what the website warns: "CAVEAT Students taking this class must be of the level and experience to take it. Wow what a great place - so clean and welcoming. This studio is the dance home you. Are looking for in NYC. It really has the feel of hometown training. The floors are beautiful wood, and spotless. There are reasonable rentals and two large beautiful studios that convert into a black box Dance space with lights, curtains the whole shabam. !!! Personal favorite is Watson. He really knows how to teach. Describe a little bit about the class, which I've taken 3 weeks ago, was an unique experience to see how Hiphop involved and how it gonna be in the future. This is my least favorite studio rental space in all of manhattan. There are a number of caveats which concern the validation of this space including: rude and disrespectful staff. you can't play the volume for your music loud enough because it's located in a commercial building with offices above therefore staff will interrupt your rehearsal to ask to turn down the volume. Space was large but can't control the lights. No ac or heat just fans. The only benefit to booking here is the cheap price but beware, you get what you pay for. read more

Save your money. Whether you're a novice or pro, this studio is a joke. Unfortunately I found the hard way and wasted money. After speaking with other students who have participated, I've learned that Pavan the owner and instructor has zero credibility in dancing. Go ahead ask him what school of dance he attended or recognized at? What performances? Whats his resume? His MJ routine is getting old and fast, I've seen this enough at Las Vegas Impersonator shows. He does the same break dance moves over and over. His amateurish happy hour dance shows are the same stuff only to of course "showcase" your talent by taking your money and making you feel like a super star at some local school auditorium. HA! The reality is there may be some good instructors. People who actually studied dance and know the history and have a base understanding of their style and skillset. But they come and go , this is really the school of phoenix in dance schools .Hit or miss, who wants what. People are willing to pay decent money for something in return. PMT is a money making scam, save your money for a real school that can teach you fundamentals, not some quick dance tips that you'll find on youtube.com Also not surprised to see people complain about his space rental tactics. Its a scam!!! The studio has no business so it uses empty space to con people into jacked up rental rates. Got a LivingSocial voucher for an 8-class punch card that PMT refused to honor. PMT person said all the classes had to be taken before the expiration date. I pointed out my voucher nowhere states that, and that most dance studios using Groupon or LS merely want you to register or start using the card before the expiration. PMT person still refused, saying "We've had a lot of this problem with people." Here's a hint: If you've had "a lot of this problem," you probably need to revisit your customer service attitude and marketing approach. P.S. LivingSocial immediately gave a refund because they've also heard from others getting the PMT turndown. read more

If I could transport myself from SF to NY like in Star Trek, I would take dance classes here every week. I came for a hip hop class and left with incredibly sore muscles and bruises all over my knees. My left quad was so sore that I hobbled around NY the next day and had to take the subway steps one at a time. You might think "what the hell did they do in that class??", but I should add a disclaimer that this was the first dance class I had gone to in months, so it was a great workout. The teacher was superb and incredibly patient. Only thing missing was a warm-up routine at the beginning, but on the plus side that did leave more room for choreography. read more

I took my very first adult ballet class here via Classpass and I have to say it was an interesting and a bit intimidating experience. But Nikki, the ballet instructor, was very friendly and taught pretty much every basic technique. Of course, not having any dance background, it was difficult to grasp all the moves within 90 minutes. The ballet moves are in French so try learning a foreign language and dance coordination at the same time is quite mind boggling. My arms and legs were flailing all over the place; unlike the graceful postures of a ballerina. Anyway, it was a fun yet challenging class. While they call it a beginner's ballet, 90% of the attendees have some prior ballet or dance experience so they all knew what they were doing. I wish they had a class that's truly for beginners like me. The studio itself is pretty spacious. They have two studios, a changing room, and bathrooms. Going up to the studio (located on the 3RD floor) feels a little shady but I feel that's how all dance studios are in NYC. The place also offers other types of dance classes in case ballet isn't your thing. read more

PMT Dance Studio - Dance Schools Near Me - New York, New York

PMT is a really cozy dance studio. It's a relatively small community and the dancers there are passionate about dance but there definitely is room for you if you're not super experienced. I love Sarah Burke's Adv Beg hip hop class on Mondays. It definitely gets crowded, but it's always fun, though if you're not used to learning choreo, the class will feel pretty fast-paced. I've also taken Contemporary and Jazz, which I also enjoyed. PMT's class cards are a great deal, and they also don't expire for a year, while takes the pressure off. I wish they offered more Intermediate-level classes, and more ballet. If you're looking to be a more well-rounded dancer, I think you'd definitely have to find another dance studio to add to your schedule, but I've really enjoyed the community at PMT so far. read more

The least professional class I have ever enrolled my kid in. We did the hip hop class for 5-6 year olds. Half the time the teacher showed up between 15 and 30 minutes late (for a 60 minute class), the people running the front desk are unhelpful and really unprofessional, the class is overly simple, and the teacher never asked for or bothered to learn the 3-6 kids that were in it. A huge disappointment and waste of money. read more

I love this studio! Their range of classes is amazing. I've found it almost impossible to find dance classes with absolutely no experience required in NYC but PMT has them (I highly recommend Breakin' 101 and Lara Duncan's Jazz). They also have more advanced classes and workshops that are so much fun (Sarah Burke's Workshop comes to mind). The staff here are nice and most of the dancers who come here aren't the nasty stuck up ones you find at other studios (BDC, Ailey and Steps come to mind). The place has a great vibe and if you haven't tried them out you should go. read more
