I was thinking we'll use the Groupon and then never come back. Imagine How surprised I was when I found the classes to be amazingly fun! David, our Instructor, is Hilarious and a great teacher. We have signed up for the follow on curriculum and I'm happy to say that I think I can now consider myself an intermediate dancer. The other regular instructors, Sandy and Kevin, are likewise amazing and very knowledgeable. They, along with David, Have formed a close knit group of people into a very tight community that make coming to dance class fun! An example of how great this is is group class. Now many people, and i was among them, think group classes are awkward and weird: You go to dance with your partner, not with other people! but with this group it's not weird at all and very helpful! I would suggest Arthur Murray Hamden to anyone who thinks they might want to dance. My wife and I will most likely continue to attend Arthur Murray Hamden even if we move out of the area. Tried to meet with her and discuss my concerns of feeling forced to sign my daughter up for several mandatory ballet classes to remain on the comp team and spending in excess of $5000 a year along with mandatory fees associated with the annual Nutcracker performance, plus a minimum of SIX summer classes which could only be taken at this studio even tho my 16 year old had a summer job and vacation which means she would be missing most of these classes yet I was expected to pay for them!! The comp teams were amazing and won several first place awards and yet none of the girls were allowed to keep the prizes or trophies so this, along with all the mandatory classes we were expected to pay caused several girls to quit along with my daughter. I was told my first payment for summer classes was non refundable even tho summer classes hadn't even started yet. I will say the hip hop/jazz and tap/ballet teachers are amazing and could easily start their own studio!! But after 13 years I would have expected more from the owner who claims to be committed to what's best for her dancers yet basically ignored the concerns of several dancers and their moms!!

The instructors are really encouraging and take the time to make sure you feel comfortable and safe, while still pushing you in the best way. I was surprised by how quickly I started feeling stronger and more confident. It doesn't feel like you are dragging yourself through another gym workout. Every class feels different and they all satisfy the creative itch for me. The studio itself is clean and just has really good energy. You can tell the owners and instructors genuinely care about creating a space where people feel supported.
