I don't normally shop at Fred Meyer. It's not conveniently located for me. However, today I was shopping for a specific product, Green Gobbler drain cleaning and deodorizing sticks. The website said they had them, on aisle 48. So, I drove from my home in Star to this location. First of all, I don't think they have an aisle 48. I looked all over, and I found aisle 47 and aisle 49, but no 48. The drain cleaning products I did find were on aisle 18, and they did not have any Green Gobbler sticks. So, a wasted trip. The website said they were in stock at this location, and I could order them online and pick them up. I don't know where they would be located in the store, but I'm not coming back. Generally speaking, i like Fred Meyer stores & I'm sure this location is just fine for your shopping needs which is why I'm not giving one star, but my recent experience as a salvation army bell ringer here wasn't the most positive. Salvation Army will always have my support. I donate toys during the holiday season every year and this year I've also been showing my support as a Bell ringer. I've really enjoyed it, I want to do this every year & it's nice to see that people have been quite generous with their donations to the kettle. I just wish some of the store's employees were better informed about the protocols with Salvation Army kettles. When I began doing this I had no issues & I was told when hired at my shift time i were to go to the store's customer service desk to retrieve the kettle with stand & then place it wherever side I was told my spot would be for the day, do my assigned shift & then drop the kettle off back at customer service or wherever their designated safe spot in the store would be which to me was pretty common sense. In the state I lived in before, you'd hear about bell ringers just walking off wheather on a break or just having been done for the day & leaving the kettle full of money in plain view & some shady person coming by to take it, breaking into it to steal all the $$- it's not something that'll happen everywhere or all the time but it's something that needs to be kept in mind because sadly it does happen. When I took on the role of a bell ringer I made a vow to be responsible & not let anything happen to the donations to guarantee they will go to the families that need assistance the most during the holiday season.. i commend Walmart stores because they seem to know how it all works, there were no issues there & the process went alot smoother for me. At this Fred Meyer location though, they seem to be clueless or maybe just careless in regards to the charity's donations. I recently did a shift here & when I went to the customer service desk they had no idea where the kettles even were at first... they called others for assistance and then I found out from someone they just left the kettle & stand out by the door on the other side of the store from the last person who did it there before me which had to have been at least the day prior as I did this shift in the morning. I didn't find that to be a smart decision to leave it in that spot ..as I've mentioned before sometimes people have bad intentions but I didn't make a fuss about it and went over & began my shift which was overall great. The kettle had a little $ in it from the day before but didn't seem like much though & by the end of a 2 hour shift bell ringing, I got it filled to the top & many of the donations were whole dollar bills, very little coins.. I had generous donors! I wore a Christmas tree hat & played Christmas music so maybe that helped to spread a little more cheer & generosity! Anyways, fast forward to the end of my shift, I hauled the entire stand & kettle over to customer service & I let them know I was done for the day & that the kettle was completely full & I asked where is their designated spot they would like me to put it... the same customer service employee I dealt with just 2 hours earlier was also clueless about that & again had to call multiple people including supervisors. They came to the desk &told me that they will not be held responsible for the kettles so I can just leave it where I was bell ringing or someone would need to swing by to pick it up. That was not at all what was told to me when hired by a temp agency & it was also different than what I experienced with Walmart just the week prior. I had an important dr appt to get to after my shift 20 minutes away. I tried my best to get a hold of the temp agency who hired me but they didn't respond for a little while & I did not trust just leaving the kettle with the employees at this store... it seemed like they wouldn't care at all if the money was stolen. I mean I know it's not their money but if I had a wonderful charity like salvation army partnering with my store, I'd help protect the donations & not treat them like an after thought! I wasn't about to miss my dr appointment because I needed to be seen immediately in order for my dr to refill my BP meds so since I couldn't get ahold of anyone right away & the employees of this store dismissed me... I know it sounds crazy but i took the whole stand & kettle, loaded it into my car which I'm surprised I actually got it to fit without causing any damage to either, luckily as i was driving off I finally got communication from the agency ..they wanted me to just bring it back into the store at first & try to tuck it into a corner but then let me know if i could drop it off at their office so I delivered it to them for salvation army to retrieve it & went to my dr appt with BP through the roof from all the frustration with this particular Fred Meyer. read more

This was our first visit and I was thoroughly intrigued by the variety of things this store offers. What really blew me away however, was the great customer service I received while I was there. Herb went above and beyond to help us pick out a couch. I couldn't take it home at that moment and when I came back he not only helped us load it into our car but also offered his personal tie downs since we didn't come prepared. During this visit, I also misplaced my purse but didn't realize it until the next morning. When I came back an associate had turned it in and it still had everything in it. I was so relieved and the lady at the customer service counter was very helpful and friendly. Anyone else notice how poor the brand and size selections are now in Freddie's? We often can't find many items that items they had before or all they have is their own private label. I shopped at Fred Meyer FAITHFULLY SINCE 2014.... Until 2022 I'm started to notice a decline in uptake of their fruits and veggies. What really got me to boycott them was the arrogant behavior of all the management in this store. Disgusting!!! Cashiers are awesome and I'm sorry to miss being some of them but the most complaint I heard from a few of them was they were always pushed to work harder. First, I really love Fred Meyer (FM) stores as a whole so this review is limited to the donut operation only. Bakery is great overall but donuts severely suffering and are a waste of time and resources if they're not going to do it right. I have tried FM every since I moved here and have been pleasantly surprised, by both product and service. GREAT store and great people. However, the donuts never turn out right. They're stale, even when they come out fresh. It seems like they prepare these the day before in every instance. They have a brittle and hard texture with marginal flavor. Any donut, any time. I would recommend Ridley's in Star. They have the BEST donuts! read more

I usually do the Click List service where you place your order online and drive up to pick it up and they bring it out to your car - and that service works well and the customer service there is amazing. But sometimes it's good to go inside the store to see what else you're missing; seasonal items like Cheerios with heart shapes and Hershey Kisses cereal. And clearance/promotional/markdown are missed if you aren't there to see what they have. They had Frozen marshmallows in pink and blue on the clearance shelf for 50-cents. There's almost always something marked down in the meat section. This time there were coupons on meat that was already buy 1, get 1 free, so you'd get some money off and then a free one - that's a deal. There were markdowns on various types of chicken too. They have closeout items with white and red tags here and there - be on the lookout for those because they don't quite stand out, especially in the frozen section. Fred Meyer has a good rewards program where you can earn a quarterly $ rebate to use on future purchases and accrue points to save money on gas. It used to be every week, but it's not quite every week anymore, there is a Free Friday Download where you download the coupon for an item and get it free. Last week's was a box of Nuprin ibuprofen - which they were either out of stock of or didn't carry that brand. My daughter went to ask at customer service if there was a substitution item for it and was told they don't substitute the Free Friday items. They have ALWAYS substituted if a Free Friday item is out of stock or not something they carry. So, I went up there to ask, got a different person, and he said "of course" and let me get a box of Kroger ibuprofen that was similar to the quantity and strength of the original Free Friday item. It drives me crazy when they go super fast and are aggressive with your groceries at the checkstand. I had one of the managers handling my order this time and she beat the heck out of my pasta and bread, and the other lady who was bagging my order put the cereal boxes on top of the bread. I pulled it out and smiled and said something like "probably not a good idea to put cereal boxes on top of bread ... " - - she didn't say anything or seem to care. Meh. All that being said, most of the customer service from the hundreds+ visits I have made to this store have been good. It's just like any other business, sometimes depending on who or time of day or how busy they are, your particular interaction with them may not be stellar. read more

I love Fred Meyer, I mean common they were the only "General Store" in Idaho until Walmart (which was looked at as an oddity. It was late 1999 or 1998 when Walmart came to Boise. Fred Meyer has always had quality products, household, housewares, furniture, decor, clothing, intimates, fantastic produce, meat, deli, and ahead of all the little pop ups when it comes to the new trend in consumer food products "vegan", "organic", "gluten free" and they continue to grow and remain the front runner. Their prices were beet by Walmart before Covid if one does not utilize the reward system, ads, coupons; both electronic and paper. I save more and get better products from a Northwest local supply chain supporter with amazing products and service. You have to utilize your rewards and don't miss the Founders sale. We actually on vacation went to the first Kroger (and still the corporate store) in Oregon. It's multi level and awesome. I love FM. Two of three of my children work for the company. They started while in high school. They are great employers as well. read more

Both with increasingly interesting array of options as two key reasons this Fred Meyer has moved to "second chair" replacing Boise's Whole Foods in our affection. KROEGER'S WANTS TO 'EAT WHOLE FOODS' LUNCH': Metaphorically speaking, that lunch eatin' thing. That is Fred Meyer's parent, Kroeger, started to execute a a plan a couple of years ago to up their game in organic produce, brands of natural specialty foods and artisan cheeses to try to attract shoppers who might otherwise spend grocery dollars at Whole Foods. It worked for us. We used to shop Whole Foods once every week or two and largely for the organic produce, cheese and the limited amount of animal proteins we consume. But once the CoOp opened in Meridian and this Fred Meyer, close to home, upped their produce, natural foods and cheese game, using the CoOp as primary shopping and this FM as second chair, we probably shop at Whole Foods but once a quarter now and largely for animal proteins. GREENS N THINGS: The organic produce at this FM location gets better all the time. Mostly NW sourced and along with the usual suspects of things like onions, potatoes, peppers, leaf lettuces, scallions, celery and carrots they have a growing (no pun intended) selection of less usual things that we love like Romanesco, Spring turnips, Breakfast radish, Escarole and others. If you hit it on the right days, the organics are uber fresh. And very often lower priced for as fresh or fresher product than competitors. If I could wave a magic wand I'd up the options for organic fruit but most fruit is more perishable than green produce and if consumers don't buy it, Fred Meyer won't be able to carry it. Buy it or lose the options, folks. OYMPIA PROVISIONS IS "IN THE HOUSE" @ CHEESE SECTION: The guy who manages the specialty cheese counter, Mike, is a very nice man and savvy about products carried. You may not find the breadth of selection through Kroeger's buyers that you will at Whole Foods, but still a good set of options and prices on brands like Seattle based Beecher's are great. They also carry the accoutrement to go with cheese like good artisan crackers, including Beechers, and cheese friendly confiture. (Try a fig jam with gorgonzola dolce or quince paste with manchego.) Mike also just started carrying Olympic Provisions charcuterie including dry sausages and pate at the cheese counter! Once you taste these you'll understand why the Portland based darling brand has such fans everywhere. A loaf of bread, charcuterie, great cheese and fruit and call it dinner. LIMITATIONS: Alas, you'll need to look elsewhere for good bread since Kroeger doesn't allow for the location to bring in local bakers like Acme or Gaston's. Fred Meyer also lacks a good deli or good sources of humanely, sustainably raised animal proteins. Plus they will always carry the plethora of processed foods that make up the Standard American Diet. While I consider that a major drawback, I understand most people eat it and so it goes. But they are doing a pretty good job of growing into an organic and natural foods source too. A pretty decent floral department but the trick is to look in the "marked down" section (on the wall near the "quick check out" registers) where on some days they'll have pretty fresh bouquets at deep discount that you can "edit" to use for a dinner party or guest rooms and the flowers will be at their prime and looking lovely if you only need them for three or four days. Worst shopping trip ever. This store is the only close Lima w to buy one particular item I needed so decided to just do all of my shopping there. What a crap show. Much of the produce is prepackaged and in bad shape. No way to choose the items you can actually use. Just have to buy a bag and hope there are enough decent ones for your recipe. No date in prepackaged produce. Other items throughout the store had only 1 or 2 on the shelf and hard to find expiration dates. They do t even carry 70% of the items I usually buy weekly elsewhere. The freezer section again has one, maybe 2 items to choose from. Horribly stocked and basically forced in to self check out because they only have one check stand open. I'll gladly drive to Boise for my specialty item in the future and not waste my time. Very low quality, high prices, no customer service. read more

More and more Fred Meyers is off my list for as a go to for shopping. I used the online shopping about 4 times and the last time was the worst. Today I went to buy tennis shoes and shopped for a few other clothing items and at the checkout I was asked if I wanted to use my rewards card. I said no as I don't use store cards like that. She than told me that in that case I couldn't get the sale price. I asked, "since when?" She said since about 7 months ago. I will not be forced to sign up for store cards to get a sale price. So I had her put my sale priced things back. It really pissed me off that it didn't say on the sale sign that price was only good IF you have a rewards card. I wasted my time shopping. I went to the pharmacy on Fairview and Locust Grove as I do every month and when I showed my alternate ID (which I've used there several times already) the clerk didn't want to take it because it wasn't easy enough for her to process. Most of the clerks are pretty good about this, but the one I got today was a bit bossy, even going as far as advising me how to manage my payment cards online, though I didn't ask her for any advice. Not good in a customer service situation. She seemed to be having a bad Monday and to need someone to take that out on. Look's like it's time to take my business somewhere else. read more

When I first started shopping here, I thought this was 5 stars. It's slowly gone downhill. My main complaint is that they took out the childcare at Freddy's. I used it a few times a week to go shopping, and I spent a lot more money than I would have otherwise, because I was child free and could shop without distractions. The produce molds quickly, and the grocery prices are higher than nearby Walmart. They are often out of my favorite items too. The employees are very nice, but it's not worth it to come here anymore unless I need to order a cake or go clothes shopping. read more

Great place to stock up all of your groceries when you need. Indeed, after 45 minutes or so, my cart was full of things we needed. Freshly sliced lunch meat, cheese, bread, condiments, pancake mix, syrup, eggs, buns, and of course copious amounts of snacks and treats. The layout was very similar to most others i have been to, but this is a bigger store. It's clean, it's big, it has plenty of parking, and it is convenient to our location to get groceries home and in the fridge. read more

We especially like the sushi counter that always has veggie sushi stocked, but there are lots of choices for grab and go meals. You can also pay at the food counter if you are only buying prepared meals so that you don't have to go across the store to the check out lines. Sometimes we will grab to go lunch at Fred Meyer and then go to a near by park for a picnic if the weather is nice. This store has a variety of departments that cater to my needs such as a great deli, health product section and a very helpful meat department. I have always experienced great customer service from every area. I appreciate the store is very clean, organized and well designed. I have experienced more than one occasion that they are out of items on particular days as they have shipments coming in on certain days. At times, the produce department may not have particular items due to a busy weekend. Other than that, I have been very happy with Fred Meyer and will continue to make this my go to store. read more

I have found true chocolate-dipped old-fashioned donuts in exactly three places: NYC's Donut Pub, a billion sad boxes of Entemann's, and this particular Fred's. Of the three, Fred clearly takes the cake. The chocolate is a little weird and waxy, not unlike what you'd get on one of Entemann's aforementioned donettes, but the way it interacts with the super-crisp cake donut is kind of awesome. For whatever reason, it makes for a crunch that has only ever existed in those weird rice krispy-impregnated Krackle candy bars. It's not the best characteristic for a donut to have, but it's totally a unique one. So, it's got that going for it. Also, their French cruellers aren't bad, and I hear there's a perfectly lovely supermarket beyond the donut case. read more

This is an everything type of store: food, drugs, home improvement, even clothes! Prices are very fair, there are good sales, and they have a great rewards program. They are community based. They involve themselves with the community; doing things such as hiring local staff and working on community projects. The parking lot is huge. There's fast food nearby and a Starbucks inside. If you're local, this shopping center may very well become your weekly go-to. read more

Worst guest service experience of my life... the least helpful employees I have ever come across. My return was a broken tv speaker with all the contents except the box. I had a receipt that was within the 30 day return window yet they were unable to do my return. I work guest service and this is ridiculous. I was sent over to the other Fred Meyer because somehow they could do more than the current store. The other Fred Meyer did way better. They put the customer first! Confirmed information about 2 employees at Fred Meyer at Chinden and Linder with Coronovirus 19. Worked in produce. People believe they are getting "fresh" produce. From their shipments, you ought to see what gets thrown out. All of it goes into the trash. Their shipping is out of Washington. KROGER/FRED MEYER want you to see how good their advertising is. February 20th, had six massive seizures, Respiratory and cardiac failure. Left hospital about the 24. I wanted to go home, they didn't want me to. I begged, to go home. I am still struggling. Right leg damage from seizures. On Friday I have to have some surgery, so.... It seriously hurts to walk. I went in to Fred Meyer, April 15th at 9:45p., they fully close at 10:15 now. I have felt sick and in a lot of pain, so I went late in order to not be shoved around or run over. Within minutes i was being asked to leave the store with what I had. It was so aggressive that I began to get nauseous and dizzy. They, the 2 women, suggested that I leave with what I had, and come back tomorrow. I just wanted some coffee items, bread, not many things. Just to painful to walk I told the one dark haired heavy set woman to just stop...she called the manager "Claire". It got worse after that. I left with 6 items, and never ever wanting to come back. I just wanted a loaf of my favorite bread. I like others have tolerated the issues from FM. I lost a $340 bill transfer into their system. I watched as it came out of my account and never went to Idaho Power. I was given one excuse after another, ONE week later, Kroger Corp office sent $340 to my account. I was shocked. Would like to have "heard" an apology. Then to include from the .25 to .35 price increases, a staff member argued until I proved it, then nothing more said. Asking when they would receive any "clorox"...response was "when they make more and deliver it"...ok...so I went to WINCO( a friend that works in Fed gov said they were finding all they needed at WINCO, after getting tired of FM. My 6 year daughter and I were shopping for her baby sister and needed help so a very nice young lady was helping us when her coworker came up and introrupted me to yell at this young girl and was using VERY foul words. I asked her to not talk like that infront of my daughter and she LITERALLY told me that as a customer I have no say in how she treats her employees. If there was a negative 10 I would rate Three weeks and a few calls I am still Waiting for a response to my service problem from 8/2/20. Apparently glitch I. Their system has been escalated to IT Dept. I finally removed my card info since no one can tell me if my data is safe. Will be removing my preferred shopper info as well. Now shopping Albertsons for delivery. Albertsons charges a delivery fee but won't allow tips for delivery people so it is a savings. Hopefully they pay delivery folks more. I hope fm eventually gets around to try customer service and responds to my concern. A month is too long to get a response to a legit concern. Stood there looking around for five minutes, never were helped, greeted or acknowledged in any way despite the fact that there were at least 11 employees visible behind the counter and only 3 people in line. We are unfortunately under quarantine due to a positive covid test. So we used the Fred Meyer (5425 W Chinden Blvd, Garden City, ID 83714) website to order a few items to be delivered to get us by until we could get back to the store. We ordered 15 items totaling about $50.00. We received the order that evening and it was exactly what we ordered. The next day our debit card was not charged what we owed but instead was charged $201.06 for 45 items that we did not order nor receive. I called the store manager twice and did not receive any help. I called a number they gave me 3 times and received no help. I have been told someone would call me. No one has called. I have been told I would receive emails but have not received emails. I started coming to this location when they opened and I have always had a wonderful experience. I live in Emmett, so every store has better prices then our selection in Emmett. After coming for almost a year, I realized that I had found a store I could finally fall in love with. The staff is approachable and only on a few visits were they hard to find. They always help you out and will go out of their way to make sure you were completely satisfied. The grocery selection is varied and very easy to find. I know that my daughter, who LOVES hot dogs, can get then here for almost three dollars less that the place in Emmett. Money saved!! I started going to this Fred Meyer, honestly, because of proximity to my house. We've since moved and I still make it a point to go here. It is as good as it gets for a grocery/department store. The helpful, approachable staff is absolutely great. They make it a point to ensure you find what you need. Other reviews cite a certain arrogance about them that, in the time since they have opened, I have never even remotely experienced. The prices on their food and other items they carry is on par with, if not below, what I would expect from a non-Walmart/Winco type store. Like many grocery stores, the freshness comes with what they are able to get, but what I have noticed is that they will not necessarily sacrifice their commitment to the place they live for availability.
