Well upstairs is a whole new world for home/office and I bought the most amazing cordless vacuum I found up there (on sale too!!!). Downstairs is all grocery/toiletries and this Fred Meyer has a great selection of chips! They have tons of the Siete brand here including salt and vinegar which is the best. There are always great deals on avocados and other produce here as well! Things I can't find at Safeway I know FM will have. The bottle return here is so convenient as well. read more

This is, reluctantly, the grocery store I'm visiting most often these days. Their parking lot is crazy, but they do have some additional spaces on the rooftop. I often charge my EV at their EV charging stations, and they usually have one to three (out of four) that are out of service. They've increased security in the store as well as self checkouts, so staff does their best but the level of customer service is fairly low. It's quite a large store, so selection is broad. Pick up has always been easy. Prices are not the best in Portland. I don't enjoy using their app, especially since they limit the number of coupons you can clip. read more

Feels more like a detention center than your local grocery store. You're better off paying more at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's for an insanely better experience. The Hawthorne location profiles you as a black or brown person. Staff becomes completely unraveled at the most basic task, ringing a bottle drop coupon. On the same transaction, I used EBT. This required three adults. Even still, no one knew what they were doing, and the transaction needed to be canceled. 80% of them walk around like it's 1984 meets Idiocracy and loathe their jobs. Because they certainly don't fill prescriptions in any timely manner considering these are medications for sick people to save their lives. I'm still waiting ten days after the Rx was sent in. I've spoken to pharmacists. They promise they will fill it the next day. Nothing happens. I call them again, waiting on hold for up to an hour. On and on. Run from this place. this is not my first time shopping at this fred meyer, and it definitely won't be my last! found these delightful "Cheese Bits", which are essentially just teeny tiny mozzarella balls, perfect for popping in your mouth on the go. I got the wasabi flavored ones, but I believe they also had smokey flavored and plain. And what's even better is the fact that they were at a reduced price, it must be my lucky day! they were originally 5.99, which i admit is a little steep, but after tasting them i can say it is well worth it. i'll definitely be back to explore the hawthorne fred meyer cheese section VERY soon. cheers xoxo read more

I ordered groceries, yesterday, with explicit instructions they were to be brought in. When they knocked, I went immediately to the door. The guy had dumped them and ran!! I yelled ' you can't leave these! ' Again. No response. This is the second time this has happened. I had to call for other help as can't lift. I've only lived here a couple of months and your service is worst I've ever, ever had!!! And my emails, phone complaints, online, all ignored. No humans of course. They also send unwanted substitutes, more expensive items, bruised bananas. Worst store delivery I know of. read more

I enjoy the convenience of my neighborhood Fred Meyer and largely I am happy with the products and services they offer. That being said, they have an ongoing issue with customers bringing pets into the store. Let me be clear, I am not referring to ADA authorized service animals. I am referring to dogs on a leash, running free and in the shopping cart. There seems to be no real effort made to deter customers from bringing dogs into this location, as well as others I shop at. It is against the law to bring pets into a restaurant, grocery store or establishment preparing food. It is a ODA Health and Safety violation. I have brought this problem to Fred Meyer Management's attention for years, but have yet to see anyone (security, manager on duty or greeter) confront a customer coming into the store with a dog. The policy amongst Fred Meyer staff seems to be, "don't ask, don't tell." If you see a customer in the grocery store with a dog that is obviously a pet and not an ADA approved service dog, please speak up. Some customers are oblivious to the rule/policy and others just don't care. Dogs are great and bring endless joy to our lives. But they can carry disease, sniff/lick food products or defecate/urinate in the store, not to mention bite you if they feel threatened. Leave your dog at home or in the car, please. read more

Fred Meyer located in the Hawthorne neighborhood. Oh boy does this place get busy for its (small) size. Parking isn't as big as it should be- parking is on street level and also the upper deck too, which helps. Oh, and charging stations down on street level! Associates are super nice and the place is relatively clean and stocked (depends on vendors). There isn't a Starbucks, but a chase ATM inside. Get here first thing at 7am to beat the crowds. I believe there is a bus stop just outside too. No clothes at this location, I think more of just a marketplace- Home Dept is here though upstairs! 4 stars for not much parking. read more

I've shopped here since 1998 and have seen this location undergo several transformations over the last two decades. The first remodel was basically updating all the equipment and giving a new paint job to the interior and exterior. The more recent remodel included a reorganization, putting electronics, sports, toys etc. upstairs and all grocery downstairs. These days Fred Meyers is one of the most busy grocery stores in the Hawthorne neighborhood. It is a go-to for all items with a fairly good grocery selection. Regulars should register for the rewards system to begin enjoying the benefits. There are several entrances, including two on the first floor and one on the second floor. Second floor parking is a lot easier and can be accessed from Hawthorne st by turning at the Bank of America. If available try the Moonstruck chocolate. It makes a great gift for loved ones. read more

This Freddy's location is just OK. Since I've been walking in Laurelhurst Park during Pandemic for change of scenery, I've stopped here a number of times. I find the footprint of this store to be confusing and I spend way too much time just trying to figure out where an item would be. If I had time for the "treasure hunt" maybe it wouldn't bother me so much but right now it's about getting in and out quickly and with intent, this is not the store! Upstairs, downstairs, outside - it's too much for me. Was able to grab some bread, butter, cream for my coffee and an orange begonia to replace the one I bought last week and got decapitated by the wind! So in all, a productive shopping trip but not an experience I could say I enjoy. Plenty of parking in their own lot behind the store but the aisles are tight so do be careful. read more

The pharmacy staff is AWFUL. I can't believe the difference between this location and Johnson Creek. For Hawthorne, I have to wait on hold about 15-20 minutes every single time I call their pharmacy (Why????). And when I do finally get ahold of them, they are totally rude. They also have ZERO communication with each other and other pharmacies. The lines are insanely long. Ever think of staffing up a bit more? GO TO JOHNSON CREEK INSTEAD!!! Their pharmacy staff is 1000x better. They answer their calls immediately, no holding. They're quicker, nicer, more communicative, their lines move fast because they have multiple staff helping at a time, and they actually treat customers like human beings. This Freddies is not bad, really should be a 3.5 star review. I have a long history of shopping here and have seen it change a lot since I was a child. Store is smaller than the ones that became my staple locations as an adult but it works without issue. Store is clean and stocked as expected it should be, seems well staffed and such. it has a different vibe to it that just seems to take away from it, not an uncomfortable feeling when shopping there but still a strange sense about it. The customers in here are hit or miss as well, some are just rude as all hell and really should not look down their noses at others. I don't mid the store, it is just not my favorite to shop at. read more

COSTCO CROSSED WITH TARGET AND LOCAL PRODUCTS Fred Meyer is like a Super Target with more selections and an emphasis on local items. You know you're in Portland when the beer aisle is massive. Kudos for highlighting homegrown goodies such as handcrafted Ruby Jewel ice cream sandwiches, which are cheaper here than at the ice cream parlor. Their organic section is bigger than most, and prices overall rival everyone's except Trader Joe's. Sure there are clothes, dishes, and more available, but I popped in here for groceries. Forget about finding anyone to help you, though. The only place I spotted employees were at the check out stations or a counter. Walk or take public transportation if you can. Oh Fred Meyer, how I miss you. Your wide clean aisles. Your fruit so fresh it almost talks dirty. Friendly employees. Reasonable prices. This location has a small gardening area. Some electronics, sports and toys are upstairs. I can almost always find what I need here, though when I lived in Portland, this was not my usual go-to location. There is a dedicated parking lot next to the building, as well as roof top parking. There have been many transformations over the years since my first visit back in 1998, and I am sure there will be many more. But the name remains constant. read more

Pros: electric vehicle charging is fast if pricy and crowded. Lots of selection and a large store in a neighborhood where thats uncommon. Prices are good. Cons: water dispenser for Primo is for no apparent reason on the opposite side of the store from the parking lot. You have to walk thru the whole store w your water bottles to refill them. Makes no sense. Pretty sure the Chase atm is unneeded given theres a Chase literally across the street, maybe put the water there? Also the security situation is silly. They have multiple greeters and armed officers at their doors. Last I checked they sell groceries there not gold bullion. Employees are generally nice tho which I like. They should consider having less Miller cheese and more selection for cheese. :) read more

We went shopping at the Johnson Creek store on Thursday. There were plenty of staff members in every department. They were so helpful. Even after we had checked out the young woman who bagged our groceries offered to help me review how the app log in worked. We also had our vaccinations there a couple of weeks ago. It is clear that this specific Fred Meyer is a victim of thievery, as when I went to the upper floor, all the self-checkout machines were closed. In addition, when I went to buy some pencils and pens, the whole aisle was locked up, and you needed to press a button for an associate to unlock it for you. Fred Meyer is a busy place, so you could end up waiting for a long time before you can get your product. I understand thievery is a big issue is the city of Portland, but Fred Meyer taking these drastic steps makes it frustrating to shop at. read more

I scheduled an order pick up with an available window. When I pulled in, it was just me waiting, and I was 2 minutes after my pick up window started. After 10 minutes past my scheduled window with no order, 2 other cars had already arrived after me and left with their pick up before me, being helped instantly. The clerk informed me that it would be 10-15 more minutes and it wasn't ready yet, despite me following the protocol of waiting for the pick up window and selecting 'on my way' to notify the attendants. Mildly annoying, however I was okay to wait 10 minutes. In reality, it was not "10-15 minutes", and 3 more cars arrived much later than I did and left with their pick up order after waiting less than 2 minutes. Finally after waiting in my car for 30 minutes (double what I was told the wait would be) in the direct sunlight on the hottest day of the week, I walked to the pick up area to again ask the status and it STILL was not ready. I waited over 30 minutes. To add salt to the wound, one of the items was incorrect. As a customer, it's very frustrating to be told to arrive at a specific time only for the order to not even be close to ready and have to bake in a hot car. I understand the unforeseen happens but it would have taken less than 2 minutes to notify me my order would be late and give me a realistic timeframe. read more

Good to know that there still are supermarkets in Fred Meyer. I was starting to get hipstered out. Parking is plentiful in the lot out here. As a Canadian, the best things for us here are the awesome snack selection (there are way more flavours of chips here than in Canadaland, for example), and of course, the cheap, cheap booze. I am totally breaking up with this Fred Meyer. I know it's closer to my house than the one on 82nd, but there's always Safeway and Winco. I may change my mind, but for right now, I am really mad. Not as mad as I was at the store, but mad enough to vent. So, I drive 2.5 miles to buy a dozen eggs for $.57 - which my elderly mom called to tell me about. Unbeknownst to me, until I am checking out, I have to have the rewards card AND the app. I only have the card. They will not honor the sale price and I leave - empty handed. My mom doesn't have the app, because she has a flip phone, and her Fred Meyer in Clackamas honors the sale prices for her. I used to have the app but all of a sudden, I can't get sale prices without the card. I don't want the card. My wallet is full enough. But, I gripe and the Fred Meyer worker I am griping to tells me to go home and have their customer service link my card to my app so I don't have to carry the card. Sounds good - until I call and get someone with broken English who tells me that cannot be done and that the app creates a new rewards number - that never matches your card. Irritated, I deleted the app, because I'm told I really just need the card. Not so. I learned that tonight when I left the store without eggs (which went from $1.99 to $1.29 with the card; the regular price at Winco). Why don't I want the app? Because my phone is running low on memory and there are apps much more important than one that will get me eggs for $.57. All this said, I will still shop at Fred Meyer - because the ones in the burbs make exceptions for their customers. I just won't go to this one unless I am really, really, desperate. read more

Sorry to see a top rated lo al store slowly turning more and more a poorly managed, poor customer service, little or no knoledgable staff. Conversion to self check out lines and intentionally mislabeling or wrong price lable placement on shelves. The problems are many and list is getting longer. Before covid was hard enough to get help now is much worse. Part due to not paying enough, part due to corporate policies.
