Employee Owned... WinCo! That's a great opening isn't it? And it's a good reason to choose this store. This WinCo on 102nd Ave seems to be humming along, since we lost the Gateway Freddy's across the street, this has been our grocery store. We find the WinCo produce and bulk foods to be a couple of the high points. We also got excellent rock fish! The best thing? The employees are pretty cool. We know a few of them by name, it's a great crew. You can clearly see that they are on it. The store just got a remodel, and it looks fine. They dropped self check-out a while ago, and now check-out with human check-out people. Surprisingly, the check-out goes pretty well and it seems they stay aware as the crowd changes. I joked with the cashier "oh your having a good day at work, you don't got to lie to me." Next thing you know I'm being called a weirdo and told to leave before I've even grabbed my groceries. There was really nothing offensive about the statement. Then I looked at her face and her unhealthy skinny body and realized she's a tweaker. I said you don't have to tweak on me and I must have been right because she came out from around the register with a full line to try getting in my face. I left came back and talked to the MOD Jesus who spent the next 10 minutes telling me this was my fault. Although I doubt he was the MOD no uniform looked more like security. Anyways won't ever go back since if I need Winco there (I'm personally trying to stay away now) there u I s a store on 122nd right up the street and their employees look healthier. read more

Train the clerks and support them. I was behind a customer who had many small bulk items who took more than 5 minutes to ring the first item up. She couldn't even ring the second item at all. The head clerk, Zach, partly helped her after after another longer wait. He then opened the register in the same aisle behind me taking people with full carts behind me . My clerk was still struggling with the customer in front of me while 3 full carts went by Zach's register next to me. I don't even blame my own clerk, but blame management and training. Trimester has cut back evening max and bus lines. When I got my 16 items home (which was why I was at a slow register) this senior who was using a walking stick, arrived late to Trimet, after the time their frequent service was cut. No more "quick" stops at Gateway on my way home. read more

Not my regular grocery store because I prefer smaller footprints where I can get in and out quickly. But for those shopping for a family, it's worth coming here because prices are definitely better than big box grocery chains. The aisles are sooooo long, deliberately, so you have to walk past all the items, hopefully igniting spontaneous purchases. The strategy works! Yesterday I picked up a big jar of pepperocini and several bottles of Goldens Spicy mustard because I saw them, and noticed the prices were much less than what I typically pay. I do like the bulk area so you can buy the quantities you want rather than large packages of specialty items. The cashier I had deserves a raise! She busted through the line, ringing everyone up quickly, and even catching the wrong item numbers written on a different customer's bulk bags and corrected them. All with a smile. By far the worst Winco. Not only is it dirtier, but this store severely lacks customer service. 1. Insufficient staffing, 2. At peak only one express lane open whereat carts move slower than the lines with fuller loads. So "about 15 items or less" means nothing. 3. Cashiers let customers bypass those in line even if challenged. I tried, they don't care. Don't go to this store. You'd think "Employee Owned" means more pride. Go over to the much cleaner Fred Meyer just down the street. It's higher priced, but it's not scuzzy. read more

This WinCo is under construction so you will see some disorganization in the store right now. Nothing too disruptive with my shopping experience. Overall, I only come here for the bulk spices and food. They have a good selection Since it's that time of the year to bake holiday cookies, I went in to buy some spices. I do like that they have some candied items like ginger. Great for spiced cookies. The parking lot is ample so no need to be worried about finding parking. I like WinCo because you can find everything you need for food and it's employee owned. So no need to go to those corporate big places. Huge store with reasonable prices. Produce had all the typical items but you won't find any specialty items. Large meat a seafood section. I found wild caught salmon, but at home I found this variety has many pin bones. Not a large beer selection but I managed to find a local ale. There is a large dry good section. A lovely cashier at the self checkout helped me several times. For those who never shopped at Winco it does not accept credit cards and charges for shopping bags. She patiently got me cashed out. read more

Went to checkout, & Rachael (Oper. #259587) the cashier was very nice, as she always is. Then I realized not all of my coupons came off the bill. I had printed them out, because 1/2 the time I don't get them. This time 3 of them did not come off. She agreed, & called the manager on duty over. Nastily she said "Yes they did, right here", I said I know these came off, but these 3 did not. "FINE, I will talk to the accountant" & stormed off. about 5 minuets later, she storms over to a cashier station (looked like she was glaring at me because of the inconvenience). Stormed over handed me my $3.50 & the receipt and said HERE. Started to walk off, so I said real loud Thank You. I don't know if she was just having a bad day (I've never seen her smile), or if she thought I was just ripping her off. I had just spent $183.57, & I didn't think asking for the $3.50 coupon money back was too much to ask. I shop here weekly. Ever since the new remodel has taken place, my experience at this store went from a decent experience to a terrible one. I've been in the store during the day, during busy times, and late in the evening - it has not mattered. Lines wrap around the aisle and cashiers do not apologize for the wait nor do they acknowledge it. They've taken away self checkout because of the actions of a few, deciding to punish the entire customer base instead. They also have "express lanes" that are unevenly enforced and very unhelpful. It's become so that there is no time to go that is quick and easy anymore, unless of course you want to go overnight. As a young woman I don't feel safe going before daylight or after sunset. I would be hard-pressed to tell you what is different between one WinCo Foods and another. They're all basically laid out exactly the same, perhaps in reverse orientation, but otherwise you know exactly what you are going to find here: low prices, decent produce, bulk and canned goods galore, a decent bakery, and horrendously long lines at the checkout lanes. You will drive away with some amazing deals and savings, but I highly recommend shopping in the evening or early morning hours. Think of it as a low-budget Costco, without the stupid membership fee and cult-like following. read more

WinCo is an affordable grocery store that has everything you need and the best part is that they are open 24/7! There's currently a temporary store hours in effect though. They are usually well stocked and have a variety of fruits, veggies, small deli in the back, and bakery goods in the front. Look for green tags for extra sales and I like how WinCo competes with other stores and have price comparison to let you know how much you are saving for certain items. If you bring your own reusable bag, the cashier will credit you 5 cents per bag that you use. Plus it's better for the environment and you save money! Be prepared to pay in cash and debit card only. WinCo doesn't accept credit card because they get charged more, so that's why they don't accept it. It's a great place to shop for groceries, however I am concerned for the safety of shoppers there. Every time I go there, there's suspicious people standing outside and no security to kick them off the premises. Don't go here alone at night defenseless if that scares you. read more

First of all this review is for WinCo on 117th in Vancouver WA. (I do not live in San Francisco, CA...that is a Yelp error). I almost never shop anywhere else. The prices are the lowest and the selection is good. Bargains on fresh produce are exceptional and staff helpful. I usually cook what ever is on sale and my family is well fed because of the value available by shopping here. I got tired of the so caledl coupon and QR code scams at Safeway and the high prices at Fred Meyer. I will never go back. WinCo from now on! read more

Ok... I was in the "15 Items" self check out. I was kicked out and sent to a check stand because I had 17 items. You had 2 checkers. Somethings need to Change. If you dont want people checking out their own groceries then there needs to be more checkers. I can understand if I had a flood of people behind me for my 17 items. I had NOONE behind me. Your self checkout supervisor was little bit rude and not very bright with seeing the big picture.. so I go to a line. It took me 20 minutes to get through because your checker wants to scan one item for every 10 seconds. This is not ok. People have places to be. I think "items per minute." Need to start. I was checker for Fred meyer for a time... our times per minute were monitored. And rewarded. These slow ass checkers are ridiculous. It should not have taken 20 minutes for 2 people. And if there is noone at the self checkout. And I'm minding my own business for my 17 items. Then your self checkout supervisor Should mind theirs. read more

They are rude and treat people like we are criminals when we come in just because I have tattoos and half native American and half Hispanic I get treated so poorly but when the white people do the same thing nothing is said at all. Like I reported it I went one day and because the cashier was busy talking to the white lady in front of me she has a case of water and soda and eggs down below the cashier said nothing to her about them being down below I put my stuff up had my daughter push the cart to get ready to bag because we had a.line and a lady came and told him to go on break that Dennis would take over for his break this cashier heavy set white male grab the scanner gun and made sure he scanned my soda's I had three 12 packs down below he didn't even give me a chance to tell him he goes your kind always tries and steal stuff like that of course customer service was closed so couldn't talk to anyone about it but like I said it employee owned and I'm just one customer so it doesn't matter I left a complaint with them and still not heard back I will just go somewhere else from now on. This used to be my favorite local grocery store. It's close to me and affordable (I would never dream of shopping at the Fred Meyer also on 102nd now, it's set up like a security prison). And it's not too busy if you select your shopping times. I like most of the clerks who can get my through the line very quickly. I have lost left two ipads in my cart and both times were returned to customer service by helpful cart collecting employees which I was very grateful for. But mostly I like to do my own checkout. No chit chat, I'm in and I'm out. Which brings me to my point. Theh have removed their self checkout machines, every last one. I did a comic double take when I saw this dead aisle of products. My question is why? I recall everything ran very smoothly there. One side of machines for debit card, one for cash only. Yes they have express checkouts but that's not neatly the same. I much prefer scanning my own stuff quickly and without a line of people ahead of me. I'm going to now investigate grocery stores in my area with self checkout service and I hope I'm successful. I'm afraid my days at this particular Winco is near an end, and I'm a bit angry. If something works don't fix it! read more

If you see me check-in here to go grocery shopping it is usually around 3 or 4 AM because I have insomnia and I don't know what else to do with myself that could be considered productive. That was me today. 3 AM is actually quite a nice time to come shopping here. No crowds and hoards of ankle-biters running amok. Just folks stocking the shelves and mopping the floor. I love the peace and quiet of this hour. This location is a bit out of my way but it is the closest 24 hour grocery store I can find. I don't mind the drive. There is no traffic and parking is ALL MINE. Typically prices here are going to be lower than Fred Meyer, where I usually shop. I don't find a lot of fancy or international goods like you may find at Zupan's or Barbur World Market, but that's ok. If I just need the staples, this is the place to go. I've been a loyal Winco shopper for the 17 years I've lived all over Portland. This location is my current local and boy is it the Wild West. Great prices? Yes. LONG checkout lines? Also yes. Ten crackheads having a brawl in the self-checkout line? 100% GTD. 10/10 for entertainment, 1.5/10 for safety and time wasted. It's be pretty obvious to the lay person they should hire at least one security guard and twice as many checkers. Pretty impressive they are worker owned, but the workers give less sh*ts than a hibernating bear. Wake up and fix your glaring issues. Until then, I'll be shopping across the street at Freddie's. VERY affordable (if not outright cheap) prices, huge selection of all your basic food/grocery necessities, decent quality veggies & ok quality meats, open 24 hours, close to major lines of transportation (bus lines, the Max, the 205 bike path, and I84/205), and being employee owned are the main reasons to come here. The only downside is that they tend not to have organic veggies/fruit, and they usually have a limited selection of organic/free range meats, but I think it's primarily because their customers don't request/purchase it rather than Winco choosing not to offer it. read more

WinCo sells dry ice! There is no reference on Yelp anywhere to that fact, nor on the internet as a whole that I could find, so I'm noting it here so it comes up when others search for it. If you need dry ice, WinCo sells it. I don't own an ice cream maker, hence I like to occasionally use the dry ice method to make it at home. It's convenient to be able to get it at WinCo. read more
