The selection of wood at Frederick Lumber is excellent, many fantastic slabs and some are astoundingly THICK and HUGE! Great place to wander around seeking the spirit-in-the-wood for inspiration. The staff are either woodworkers themselves or very knowledgeable -- and they are helpful and friendly. I'm a life-long woodwork hobbyist and I really appreciate the selection of species to look through. Saturday's can be busy, weekdays are an ideal time to loose yourself in this very large warehouse of fantastic wood species! Went in there a few days ago wanting to try and make a butcher block for the first time. Met an a very nice lady who helped me pick out the right wood. I went back today to get the board planed and squared and was met by some bald guy who was nothing but rude and dismissive. Even took a call in the middle of our discussion. Sorry I'm not an expert, but again this was something I was trying to do for the first time. I will NEVER go back to this place. read more

They have all types of wood here for sale. Lots of reclaimed wood cut down to boards of various widths, lengths, and thicknesses, but also large slabs that can be used for tables. We got some beautiful walnut that was milled into open kitchen shelving for us. They did a great job and we love how our shelves look. They were super friendly and helpful talking through the shelves we wanted to build and figuring out the millwork needed. read more

Great phone service but it ended there. I'm not a carpenter but I needed a specific piece of lumber for a small project. The guy that helped me was an ass. Pure and simple. Nobody was there in the place and he acted as if he had better things to do. I won't be going back. I can be treated that way at the big box stores. read more

I guess this is formerly the Gaithersburg store, sister to the Annapolis Exotic Lumber, Inc. My recollection -- it's been a while -- is that it's a nice store, with prices that are some good, some on the high side. Selection is not the same as the Annapolis store, making it worth a visit. read more

LOVE this place! If you are looking for a place that has wood you will never find in a box store, this is it. many, many species to choose from. The location was busy, and Neil helped us along with many customers. It took us a while to make our decision but when we were ready Neil was there as soon as he finished with another customer who was ahead of us. Great service, and a wonderful selection. Note: they are not builders. They specialize in the lumber you need to do your woodworking. But they are extremely knowledgeable about wood, the properties of it, and carpentry aspects. My husband and I work with wood for a living. This is a place we will go back to time and time again. read more
