Now an event center we happily attended a wedding this past weekend. The venue is old but well maintained. There is a wonderful terrace and small lawn on the back side of the property where the ceremony was held....beautiful. There are several rooms throughout used for sit down dining, dancing, bar areas and cake display. The massive oak doors welcome you and make you feel as if you have been transported back in time once you pass through. There are plenty of nooks and crannies for wonderful picture ops...and not just for the wedding party! We had a great time, enjoyed an amazing union between two wonderful friends ... and laughed, drank, danced and partied the evening away!

I came here for Yelp's Nauti by Nature party and had SO much fun. This space was perfect to host it, with grand balconies, an amazing view, and interesting spaces. This boat house has been flooded multiple times, and they're currently working on restoring it, room by room. Our event was a fundraiser for the building, in an effort to return it to its previous grandeur. Currently, it's still beautiful and majestic, just dated and in need of some repairs. Such a cool, unique spot for an event!

You receive one wine glass and pour each subsequent wine onto the glass once you've finished the last one (more plastic use but less clean up and glass usage). She cut me off and said NO I'm the one who got stuck with this after x ran off with your money now I let that slide and tried to move forward with a professional conversation and let me tell you, it was a complete headache! This lady would take days to respond to questions or flat-out never respond. She kept saying how she doesn't have to honor the contract because it wasn't signed with her I signed with the previous management. She sent me the rudest email about not ever touching her air-conditioning mind you, we didn't. On a 95° day She said air-conditioning wasn't included in my $25 an hour rehearsal sessions because if it was up to her I would have paid $175 an hour. Mind you whenever I've payed for an event space for a show as long as there is availability the rehearsal hours are little to no cost as bonus for renting the space. Never have I been quoted such a ridiculous price for rehearsal sessions. During the event the only time the staff made themselves available was to make their money off the cash bar there was no staff support during the event we had to ask for trash cans and was given 1! 1 trash can for a 200 guest event. No follow up after the show to see if I was satisfied. I wanted to make this space the QueensCourt Fashion Show home because the building is fabulous however CUSTOMER SERVICE IS KEY! They offer a tour (well worth the $20 price tag) that starts out with a yummy adult bevvie and takes you through their distilling process, rickhouse, bottling, and event spaces. Our tour guide, Michael, was very personable and fun and made the tour quite entertaining. Loved the little stories along the way. Highly recommend - we'll be back again as we enjoy distillery tours and usually have to go to Kentucky for good ones like this.

The Jam Handy is a fascinating venue where Nate and I attended a wedding recently. Located kind of…read morein what felt like the middle of nowhere, there's not a lot of parking nearby but street parking is available and you may have to walk a bit. There is a small parking lot at the Jam Handy, but we weren't really sure if we could park there, even for the rehearsal the day before the wedding. The space is historic and you can read about it online, but it served as a sound stage for the Jam Handy Organization, which specialized in industrial films and filmstrips for General Motors and the United States Armed Forces. The venue itself is a bit rustic and industrial, and serves as a blank canvas for whatever vision you have for your event. In this case, it was a wedding with lots of beautiful flowers and floral arrangements and green plants everywhere. The bar when you entered was a great touch, and guests were able to have a glass of wine before moving to the ceremony room, which had a floral backdrop. This space was turned into the late night dance party area as well. There isn't much around this venue, so don't plan on a lot of bar hopping nearby before your event. In fact, most of the bars didn't open until 5 pm on Friday, the day of the wedding. The only other downfall of the venue was having to go downstairs to use the restroom. There is one gender neutral restroom on the main floor but it was occupied 99% of the time I tried the door. Just something to note for people with mobility issues, high heels, etc. I also noticed some uneven areas in the floors. Overall I had a great time at this venue and was impressed with how it was transformed from the rehearsal time to the wedding itself! Sometimes I think spots like this are a little too much of a blank space for someone like me, who lacks creative vision to turn a place like this into something really beautiful. However, with the right team and vision, it can be exceptional!

It was completed in 1929 during the city's automotive boom. It is also often referred to as the Cathedral of Finance. It's a breathtaking Art Deco design inside and out. Make sure to take time to appreciate the detail, that makes it so special. The bold colors, the amazing tile work, and vaulted lobby are stunning. It history and beauty makes it so much more than "office building". We lucked out and found street parking but would have paid for a garage. It is absolutely worth stepping inside to look around. The accommodations are beautiful, and the owners go above and beyond, introducing the guests to the room and amenities. Guests also get complimentary Detroit made products like Faygo and Better Made Chips in their room. Breakfast is included with the stay. It's a historic inn but with modern updates. The soaking tub is to die for. It's also a black women owned business. I met one of the owners, and she is so warm and welcoming. The Cochrane is one of the best places to stay near downtown Detroit.
