I was on my way back home and looking for a bank that would allow me to deposit via drive up ATM. I was a little over halfway home and after stopping for fuel noticed this branch across the street. Access to this branch is from the side street and not the main road running through this area. What could have been a quick stop doesn't really turn into that because of the traffic signal at the intersection. Finally in the lot I pulled up to the ATM, insert card, few taps of a button and I was ready to insert check. The machine took a moment to process the transaction, but it went through. Good enough place to do your drive thru banking if need be.

Nothing has gone right with us since the changeover. My husband has tried three times to set up bill pay, and every time it says everything is all set, we end up getting a notice from the utility companies that our bill wasn't paid. Just received our tax forms and they make no sense at all. Not one thing has gone right since Sandy Spring Bank was sold to Atlantic Union. Plan on closing all of our accounts as soon as possible. So are a lot of our friends. What a shame. Guess the days of a local bank where you actually knew the people you were dealing with and had a rapport with them are over.

Services have disappeared, and while new staff are trying, they do not have the expertise of the people who used to be in the branches of SSB. Services which every bank should have - for instance, access to online tax statements, or available pictures of checks on statements (either on or offline) are not available. Records which should have been available after a merger are not available to customers - unless they go into a branch and get written records which are not complete. Sandy Spring was known for its very good customer service. That has not transferred to the new entity. Like I said - the new management is trying. But I'm not at all sure how much longer I'm willing to try to make a banking relationship work.

Opening accounts was easy and any time we've needed assistance with our personal or business accounts, they've been able to assist us right away. We've also appreciated that the terms and conditions of many of our accounts seem to be more fair than many of the big banks. Just ok. I was having problems with my former bank (M&T), so I switched to Wells Fargo. So far…read morethey haven't screwed up my account, so already they are doing better than their competition. There are some problems/annoyances, however, as I suspect is the case with probably all banks. When I came in to open my account(s), I wasn't given the option of looking over the various types of products. I was only told which one was "right for me", based on the questions asked by the customer service rep. Ok, fine, sounded good...but then when I got home and looked over the info, it was NOT what was explained to me: charges for this, that, minimum balances/deposits that I was not informed of. Not that big of a deal since I was able to call the 800 number and talk to a rep on the phone who switched me to a better product for my needs. Still, it would have been nice to not have to take this extra step. The other annoying thing is transactions take FOREVER to show up online. For example, my credit card is already showing that I paid them from my Wells Fargo account (electronically), yet my Wells Fargo account doesn't show the transaction, nor is it reflected in the balance. I'm used to stuff like that being almost instantaneous...and in this day and age, there's no reason that it shouldn't be.

I usually stop in Frederick on my way down because I know there are multiple good eateries. I'm more accustomed to the banks back around home and not so sure about other banks outside of my home state. So beforehand I made sure to do a search to where some banks were that would give me an idea to make sure I didn't go too far out of my way. I kind of had a deja vu moment when I came here. A few years prior I was in this plaza on one of my trips. However, I had never been to this end of the plaza. I pull in and make my way to the ATM. Being from Pittsburgh area, this just felt like a nod to home while heading out of town. It was simple and convenient. The place was setup to work with the plaza and allowed for a fairly quick stop before I got back onto the highway to continue on my way.
