The dance floor after it gets going...notice the singer in the background...

This place is a unique, fun experience. If you're reading this, just do it. You won't be disappointed. Is it worth the drive? YES! Fred's lounge is only open on Saturday mornings beginning at 8:00am and ending around 2:00pm....but they pack a LOT of living in those 6 hours! Get there early, before the band starts at 9am in order to get a seat. Don't let the sleepy 8:15 am uncrowded atmosphere fool you. If you're wondering where the dance floor is, you're standing on it. That hallway that goes back to the restrooms is going to be packed with dancers once the music starts. Anywhere there is three feet of space there will be someone dancing. It's standing/dancing room only once the music begins. Yes, you can start drinking at 8 am if you want to, but you can also get orange juice, pineapple juice, coffee, soft drinks, etc. without anyone batting an eye. Fred's doesn't charge admission, so do pick up something from the bar and tip the band to show your support and to keep this place alive. The music is lively, although the band is a bit hard to see once the dancing starts...but the crowd is part of the draw. It's an interesting mix of tourists and locals, harley riders and retirees. Everyone has a smile on their face and is here for a good time. Don't leave without taking at least a few turns on the dance floor...the regulars will encourage you to dance, and it's a great experience. Don't worry if you don't know how, the dance floor is so tightly packed that no one can move around much anyway. There's no judgement here, just fun! There are regular breaks for announcements in English and Cajun French, since the first few hours are broadcast on a local am station (1050am KVPI). Fred's Lounge is an unforgettable experience...don't miss it!

As the other reviewers said, this place is something else. WONDERFUL and worth the trip. I'll sure return again. Had a blast !!! If you want class Fred's is not for you. If you want fun, great music and meet some fine people than Fred's is it. And "YES" open ONLY on Saturday morning !!!! YES it's a hole in the wall full of fun and great music but what else can you ask for?

    two drinks on a table

We arranged our travel from Arkansas to New Orleans so that we could be at Fred's on Saturday morning. It lived up to its reputation - good food, cold drinks, friendly folks, & a fantastic band. Breakfast across the street at The Crazy Cajun & then a couple of hours at Fred's was just the right start to vacation.

This is my go-to spot in Alexandria…read more I am not baller enough to stay at the Hotel Bently but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Actually, that isn't true. I actually stayed at the OG Holiday Inn across the street from the Hotel Bently and found this bar by happenstance. So there I was, at the Holiday Inn for work and the bar was closed. Apparently, the bartender didn't show up for work and although the manager said I could tend the bar for the night, I was not about to start a new job. She recommended the Mirror Bar, located in the basement of the Hotel Bently. After assurances that I wouldn't be murdered walking the block to the bar, I set off. The Mirror Bar reminds me of a classy joint from a bygone era. Yes, there are mirrors. No, it is not some sort of weird place. I mention that because when I told people I went to the mirror bar they looked at me as if I was some sort of perv and I want to set the record straight. Back to the review. This is a nice bar with a nice selection of bourbon. Weeknights are pretty dead but don't let that stop you. In addition to bar seating, there are tables along the wall with comfortable chairs. Comfortable chairs in a dark classy bar? Yes, please. Prices are pretty standard for a hotel bar. Will I be back? of course. If you see me there, say hi and buy me a bourbon.
