Beautiful studio on the second floor!
Alison Z.

What I learned from my first few classes at Free Mvmt Shop is that I can't tell my left foot from my right. : ) But despite that, this was probably THE most fun (and active) dance studio I've ever been to. I feel like a lot of "dance" studios out there are like "ok here is a dance move that we're going to do about 15 times in a row. Let's get our fitness on." RIGHT?????? But Free Mvmt Shop is actually centered around beautiful choreo while also incorporating good flexibility and core conditioning. Most of the people who come here have dance backgrounds, but it's still a super welcoming and encouraging environment to (attempt to, in my case) dance. Come through to this beautiful, warm studio

A lovely and spunky welcome sign!

Enjoying Diva Dance 606. Everyone here is so friendly and just wants to groove. Diva Dance is all…read moreabout community. They have several formats. The traditional class is one hour long with warm-up and cool down. In the traditional format you learn 1 minute of choreography. 1 minute doesn't sound like a lot but that is several different eight counts. At the end of class you do an optional group performance. I always get a really good workout (400 kcal burned at least) every time that I signed up for class. My other favorite class that I like to attend is the non-stop cardio format which is 45min. This reminds me more of Zumba or Werk, were you follow the teacher for the dance moves and there is multiple songs. In the traditional format, you have the same song the whole class. Which is nice because you get to know the type of music and instructor before class. The music choices vary: Latin, pop, hip hop, 90s, 00s, and various others types. This location is relatively new but so far the community is diverse and well rounded. The owner Julia has done a good job of keeping the momentum going. What I like is that they do so much outside of dancing such as Diva Dates and neighborhood outings. I recommend giving this a try if you like dancing and being around some amazing people. The instructors have various techniques and I am thrilled when I leave class learning something new. I believe your first class is free, so come check it out.

With stroller strides I can grab some snacks for my baby, her favorite book, a couple toys and take her with me! It's a game changer! Even when I feel like I don't want to go, as soon as I'm there, I am happy I came!! And it's not only about mamas we also do a lot of socializing. Just find a momma with a kid your kids age and you can always find something cool to do as a "stay and play" after class; there's the Peggy Notebaert nature museum with a awesome butterfly display and indoor playground for cooler months, or Lincoln Park zoo that's right around the corner, plus tons of playgrounds with splash pads nearby--so it's easy and fun to make a day of it!! The workouts make a difference-I have noticed a difference in my body and fitness level as well, the class isn't just window-dressing if you really push yourself. Can't say enough good about stroller strides, try it! Your first class is free so go for it momma!

He was born…read morein August 2015 and so 6 months later I was looking for a way to get back into shape, but didn't know how to fit that part of my lifestyle back while adjusting to a 'first time mom' lifestyle. I started attending the Stroller Strides classes and more or less got hooked. Many moms are at different levels of working out when they get started and this group has been welcoming no matter what stage. I think that when starting a workout program whether you are just getting back into it or are a complete novice the most important part is the encouragement. It makes more of a difference when you are a woman just trying to navigate a new dynamic and trying to get back to yourself or a better version of yourself. This group and the many different exercise programs they provide (prenatal to postnatal) is more than a fitness program. It is a community. Not only does it encourage a healthier self, it also incorporates a village for our children. My son and now my daughter are learning the importance of exercise. They are socializing with other infants and toddlers prior to going to daycare or school through the playdates set up by the Fit4Mom Village. The village is also a great way for new moms to meet new people with their 'insta playdates'. I have found that it can be hard for new mom's to meet new friends and this takes a lot of the heavy work out of that process and also serves as an additional support system. As you can see, you get more than just a judgement free workout. You learn to ease back into working out after having kids, learn to navigate how to get back to a healthy self, meet and make mom friends, and your kids get instant playmates. What more can you ask for? Come check it out. The first class is free!

There's just one large room for classes and they teach spin, abs, and some boot camp classes. I tried out spin and found that it pretty fun with high energy music and a high energy instructor. It wasn't as challenging as others I've done but I got a pretty good sweat in - it's definitely more of a "you put in what you want to get out" feel, encouraging all fitness levels. There isn't really a specific cadence or speed that they tell you to put on. The place is very motivational and self-empowering focused. They care about individual goals. It's clean and the equipment is well maintained. I love that they're on Class Pass and are easy to check in. Pro tip: they also have a deal on Groupon right now for classes. I heard that the fat blast class kicks your butt a little more so maybe I'll try that one the next time I'm back in town.

She was always quick to respond, incredibly helpful, and more than happy to make adjustments along the way. The team even reached out ahead of time to ask what kind of music we'd like, and they played a song created by our company during the ride, which was such a fun personal touch. The instructor brought incredible energy, and they provided cycling shoes for everyone, which made everything super seamless. They truly went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. One of my teammates lost an item afterward, and the staff helped us search for it. Even after we gave up and started walking back, they actually chased us down outside to return it!
