It's nice to have a free standing Free People store in the area, but it's not as big or well stocked like the ones at the mall. I've never bought anything from this store because they usually don't have the size that I need or the item that I want but I do use them for returns that I buy online. My advice is that if you are looking for something in particular that you call them first to see if they have it before driving there. If you are just going there to browse then it's fine. read more

The couple times I have been to this location the staff is always super friendly and helpful. Although the selection is only a fraction of what they offer online it is still fun to be able to try on new styles and they can order other sizes and colors if needed to be shipped free to your house. Very cute store! It's not very big but has nice displays and is set up well. I think there are 3 dressing rooms, an accessory area, and a small clearance section in the back. The girls today were all very sweet and helpful. In the past sometimes they would just be talking behind the counter or in groups but today they were all busy assisting and changing displays. The selection in this store is boring - it seems this particular location caters to the "jeans with a cute top" crowd. Yawn. That's not what I think of when I seek out a Free People store. i've been to the store multiple times for online returns and I don't think I have ever purchased anything from this store. The other reason for the low rating is that the staff at the store is consistently snobby. They give you the obligatory greeting and then after that act like they can't wait for you to leave. They don't smile, they don't ask how your day is, they don't ask if you need any assistance. They seem bothered to have to attend to a customer when they would rather be talking amongst themselves with no one in the store. The last time I was there, I was standing at the register talking to the girl assisting me, and I happened to look over at another girl that was working there who was staring at me the whole time, but never said hello or smiled. It actually felt like contempt. That bothered me enough to write this review. I have easily spent thousands of dollars on Free People clothing over the past several years and I wish that whoever did the hiring would spend a little more time finding staff that are more reflective of the eclectic, fun, and free spirited vibe of the clothes. Cute little location in the Forum. Stopped in here do a little shopping and ended up finding something that I had been eyeing on their website on sale! It wasn't the size I was looking for but I figured I could get it taken in and still save about $50 bucks. It is much smaller than some of the Free People locations I have been to. I am going to go with the "crowd" on this one and give Free People 5 stars. It is a small shop at the Forum in Carlsbad, CA. I came in to look for a birthday gift for my cousin and a friend of mine. They have a huge selection of clothing and matching accessories. The clerk that was helping me out was super sweet and down to earth. From the second I came in to when I left she made it known that she was there to help but not follow me around. The prices are not for the those who are on a budget. There was a sale section which saved my life. I was able to walk away with a top and a couple accessories for less than $30! read more

I have been a fan of Free People back when they were an under-the-radar brand known for their earthy, hippie-esque, free-flowing styles. While their overall style still exudes the same down-to-earth feel a decade later, they've certainly upped the design standards--and especially prices--with sleeker designs and more expensive materials. I was elated to visit my first Free People store in Carlsbad, San Diego. While smaller on the square footage scale, the space screams Free People--from whitewashed wooden wall paneling to sleek recess lighting to amazing white, Moroccan-style lamps. Did I even mention the clothing? That of course rocks too. Other indie-turned-mass label clothing chains should take a lesson from Free People's design team; shopping was that much more enjoyable--and my wallet that much more empty. i love love love free people!!! i usually come in to check out the sale rack...but i frequently end up buying something full price. i absolutely love almost everything here! it is my kind of clothing. the jewelry, the sundresses, and if the intimates. its all just so comfy ..can be casual or fancy! sales people are super friendly and helpful. maybe i should get a summer job here so i can get a discount...or that may backfire and cause me to spend more money. love the shopping bags so much...makes the perfect gym bag or beach bag or something to just carry my water bottle when i go for a walk...they are always happy to give me an extra too. i am blown away that people are not being treated well here...the girls are so nice! whether i come in dressed up or stinky after the gym...i get treated the same. read more

How they can name it "Free People" is beyond me considering a shirt that I was looking at for over $100 (!!!!!!) was "Made in China", most certainly by a woman in a sweat shop somewhere. They exude an image that they do not live up to IMO. If I am going to be spending that much money on a top I think I will try to buy "Made in USA". Surely with that much profit you can afford to pay American wages, especially after seeing the quality of some of the garments. 2 stars because they do have cute things, but the prices here are outrageous considering where they are made. read more

I just walked out of there at 3:30 on a Saturday and the new girl was trying to sell me metal rings that she was claiming were sterling silver (I am allergic to metal), not only that there were 2 girls working and one completely ignored me after I asked for her help... she went on to help another customer that got there after me. Something needs to change... it wasn't just rude and disrespectful, but I am so allergic to metal... they need to be educated on the products. Terrible read more

Came in to spend some money... No greeting from the employee (ok whatever) then waited outside the dressing rooms for a few minutes to be brought in... again no help. Decided to just let myself in (she continued to be on the phone). Tried on my item which was luckily my size. Left the dressing room and walked up to the counter to pay... Again NO acknowledgement just proceeded to talk to the manager over the phone about someone she interviewed earlier that day while ringing me up. No thank you for coming in, no apology for being on the phone, in fact she apologized to her manager for stopping mid conversation to ask if I wanted a receipt (lol) honestly I was BLOWN away. So unprofessional and rude. Had she spent two minutes to acknowledge me I would have asked her what was new and what I should try on.... I ended up leaving (again without acknowledgement) and walking around the corner to Sedera where I was helped the entire time and spent $500. Have you ever walked into a store and felt like you were invisible? This is how is feels walking into the free people of encinitas. No one greets you or even LOOKS at you... Makes you wonder what the point of them working there really is? I have never written a review for any business before and I have some really bad experiences. This experience was SO TERRIBLE that I felt like saying something WHILE i was in the store! Seriously, management needs to fix this. A high-end store should have high-end business. I got such bad vibes while in this store that it's astonishing anyone at all wants to spend money here! I had to ask someone if they worked here in order to figure out the price of a ring... c'mon, this isn't walmart. Do yourself a favor and purchase online. The sales associates here are so awful. Anyone who knows me, knows that I'm a walking billboard for Free People. I am absolutely obsessed with their clothing and accessories. The hippie/loose-flowing style clothing is right up my alley. Top that off with their wide selection of moon and astrology inspired accessories, I'M SOLD! Mind you, their stuff is not cheap! So a few times a year, I gather my wish list and make my way up to the Carlsbad store or go online... At this location (and every location I've been to for that matter) the customer service is on point. Which makes my shopping experience even better. Knowing that I will be spending a nice chunk of change, it's refreshing that the girls are very down-to-earth and easy to talk to. Not the stuck up vibe that many higher-end stores have. Free People always has the cutest presentation, and their little details on decor is always on point. I was looking for a dress I found online and wanted to see if they had it available in store before diving there, on the phone the employees are SO nice and very helpful. I went in to pick up the dress, and there was a bit of a line so i figured i browse around a bit. There was about 4-5 girls working, all seemed as if they were all above saying hello, or wanting to help me. Their customer service did rub me the wrong way, especially when the few times I called in each person I talked to was very kind. I found that odd! Went in the other day to do a return from an online pair of boots. The two girls at cashwrap were so friendly and went out of their way to help me with my return (they had to call the customer service center for a few questions, and customer service was being ridiculous). Horrible horrible customer service!!!! I love free people and am a huge fan and purchase most of my f.p. online or Macy's and this happened to be my first time at the f.p. store at the forum. What a horrible experience I had! I was looking for a pair of moccasins that I saw online but had trouble finding them ( I was walking around for 15 minutes) so i decided to ask for help at the front desk. The store was empty, and there was two girls at the counter, I asked for help and was ignored, I thought they must have not heard me so again I asked for help. I was acknowledged by one of the girls looking at me but again after waiting they didn't utter a peep. Seconds later, another lady walked in who was Anglo ( I am Latina) and they greeted her and asked if they could help. I have never felt so humiliated in my life. Umm I love my Free People & I LOVE the girls who work at this location, so lovely and much nicer than the ladies in SF/Bay Area. I came here today to try on (and potentially purchase) a dress today. Pause and rewind to yesterday. Yesterday: I called because I was looking at a dress online (Foral lace mesh in Red, it is luscious, look it up) but had some questions: -is it appropriate for a wedding -it is pretty -will my size fit me, should I size up/down -etc. I called the first time and talked to Molly, she was so helpful and answered all my questions PLUS gave me some other information and personal opinion. She then informed me that instead of ordering online she could take the information and order it for me (thus saving me the shipping cost). At that point my phone died and refused to work. Fast forward to a couple hours later and I called back and got Claire, who was as helpful and lovely as Molly was. She told me that if I was interested than I could come down and try on the dress in a different color and either 1)purchase that one 2)order the one online 3)not buy them because I realized that they wouldn't work. Unbelievable customer service! Fast forward to today...I have walked in, I have tried on the dress-I loved it, but think that the red will look better- walk out and start chit chatting with the girls working (sorry I can't remember their names, one started with a "B"!). Not only did I get stellar customer service yesterday but today they were incredible too. I believe that stellar help calls for a bit of a splurge. So what did I do....I bought the original dress AND a recommendation that was made to me. Both dresses are lovely and will be staples in my closet for years to come. I will say that 90% I would of bought one dress had the ladies I encountered been horrid. The fact that they were amazing and sweet made them have a 100% chance of me buying both.
