I didn't check on fuel prices or if they even offered fuel. I stopped in for the Vintage fly in and it is a very nice grass runway. It is one of the first grass runways I have seen with runway lighting. Not far from town and I really enjoyed my visit. I will be back, hopefully next time the weather will be nicer and I can stay longer.

I was looking for an aerobatic, flight instructor for my significant other, and not realizing Mike was only in Kokomo, I called several flight schools in Indianapolis. I left several message, and no one returned by call. I called Mike, and he picked up the phone right away. He was very nice and accommodating on such short notice. He let me know he was available and the best time to arrive for the flight lesson based on the weather. When we got to the Kokomo airport and found Mike's hanger, he was very patient and generous with us. We wanted to know everything about owning a Pitts plane, and he shared everything he knew and what his costs were to own, maintain, store and operate a Pitts. He gave us so much advice and information. Then, he walked my significant other through the lesson, got him into the plane, and they took off. Mike was very careful and warned my SO about the stresses of aerobatic flying and not to overdue it because he was going to feel it, and feel it he did. SO doesn't normally have motion sickness, but he did for hours after that. Mike made the lesson so fun though that the motion sickness didn't deter my SO from signing on for more lessons with Mike. According to my SO, Mike is a very different instructor than he's had in the past. Mike has an engineering background and actually understands the mechanics of the plane and how everything works in different conditions. He's very educational, detailed and meticulous. Unlike some jock pilots, he's more of a professor type which my SO was looking for. After the lesson, we hung around some more to watch Mike's son fly. He's a competitive flyer and a pro so we got to watch a free aerobatic show. Looking to many more flying lessons with Mike!

Jr. instructor has only 350 hours, and will not sign you off to solo unless you are absolutely perfect in every aspect of operating the helicopter. If my fixed wing instructor had been so strict, I would never have soloed. I spent $17K (34 hours), and she would not sign me off, so I gave up. I am a fixed wing pilot with 750 safe hours.

When I was shopping for private pilot training, the first thing I looked for is the safety record of the aircraft. Enstroms check the boxes. No crazy safety Endorsement required like when flying mast-bumping Robinsons. The second thing I looked for was accessibility to service. Check. Warren Co airport is intimately associated with Enstrom Helicopter Corp and is a service center. Finally, I interviewed the instructor pilots. TJ and Matt are friendly gents with thousands of hours of experience. They have a firm dedication to safety and a dedication to seeing you become proficient in whatever you want to do. They are straight-shooters and lend sound advice on everything Helicopter. Their schedules are flexible and they really go out of their way to help. There is no one else you want in the right seat other than good pilots with good teaching skills. Don't expect a bunch of hand-holding on the ground knowledge, though. Their pragmatic approach has students using inexpensive on-line programs for that. I just received my private helo rating, and I'm living proof that vaheli performs a service as advertised! No regrets! Their tour clients are a satisfied group too, just ask!
