Let's just start off and say this place is **CASH ONLY**. Mexican Peso or US Dollars only. Saying that, I love the Freedom in Paradise Bar. Or I call it the Bob Marley Bar. There is NO electricity or cell phone reception. They use batteries to play music and have no lights, so once the sun goes down, they close up. With that said, the food and atmosphere is great. Unplug, relax, eat, drink, and sit on the amazing beach out back. They have hammocks and plastic chairs out back. I highly recommend the shrimp quesadilla and the Jamaican punch. I love the vibe their and always make it point to visit it anytime I'm in Cozumel. If you are driving around Cozumel island I highly recommend this place for you to stop off here for lunch or a late afternoon meal. read more

We frequent Cozumel for diving and general relaxing and this is always a must. It's a fun little beach bar with hammocks and beach seating as well as "indoor" bar seating. Everything is hand made wood in the building. the waiters are always so happy and usually whistling or singing while serving the patrons. I always get the whole fried fish and my wife gets something different every time and we are always happy with the food. Especially the house made hot sauce that you can get for your fish, habanero but soooo good! read more

Freedom in Paradise is this small reggae themed bar at the south most point of the island in Cozumel, Mexico. Whenever we are in Cozumel, we normally rent a jeep and leave the port area to explore the island and beaches. I found this place kind of randomly on one such occasion and we have been returning for years. Once you get away from the port, you get away from the mob of tourists and find yourself at this isolated bar. The views here are amazing. The bar itself is just off the side of the Quintana Roo highway and is right on the beach. We try to get a table with one of those woven grass umbrellas. Just a couple of plastic chairs in the sand. The beach near the bar is rocky, so if you want to go in the water you have to walk down the shore a little bit. I would watch out with swimming though as the currents are kind of unpredictable with undertow. I don't swim though. I just relax to the mesmerizing sound of crashing waves and enjoy the nice breeze coming off the ocean. They have a sort of limited menu but you can get some interesting items. I typically try to get the fried fish, which is whichever fish they caught that day, gutted and fried whole. Very fresh, crisp, and tasty. For drinks, I normally just get some coronas or dos equis. The bar area is pretty cool. The walls are adorn in tee shirts from passing travelers. You can take a sharpie and write your name on the wall too if that's your thing. They have Bob Marley music playing in the background. Very laid back. As for the facilities, this is a beach bar so don't expect too much. Enjoy. read more

One of my favorite spots when I visit Cozumel! Quiet and cozy with the best ocean views on the whole island!! The hammocks are basically the reason why I fell in love with this spot 25 years ago! 10 trips to Cozumel and we make a point to go here. Wether sinking our feet in the sand or our rear in a hammock, there is no place on the island better to listen to the waves and relax. Drinks are cold, service is a wave away and they have the islands very best shrimp quesadilla. Grab a marker and leave your name on a beam. This is a must, because you will be back or send your friends to look for your name. If on a cruise, don't do any excursions, walk off the boat and rent a jeep and drive south till you hit the bar. Stay 4-5 hours, maybe check out coconuts, and head back. You can shop for souvenirs at the next stop. If staying on the island, see above, start at Rent a jeep. We didn't order food this time but I can say that my drink was very good and the fact that I can drink it on a hammock with a beautiful view made it a perfect place to relax. This business was not on here (I added it.. Hopefully it stays), but was definitely my favorite place to go while in Cozumel! If you're in the touristy part of Cozumel, just drive south until you reach the southern most tip of the island. I believe you'll see several signs for punta sur entrance. You'll have to make a right and kinda go on the scooter path for a few hundred feet, but you'll emerge in paradise There are two shacks you can go to. Both make up Bob Marleys, but go to the one closest to the beach. I believe I had some shrimp quesadillas, and they were amazing. This is the best place to relax on the island (because they're right on the water), they have great food and drinks, and have a fantastic view of the ocean (which is hard to find in Cozumel) If you are on Cozumel, you must... Let me repeat, you must come here whether by rental vehicle or taxi. Now, one last thing, don't mess around with any other drinks. Get the iguana. Enough said. I did try the drink that comes in a whole coconut and it was good too (it might have been a piña colada... Legal drinking age is 18, so for some reason can't remember this vacation too well...) Go there, spend the afternoon, hopefully you can make it back driving if you have a rental. This place is literally right on the beach with lots of sand. I cruise frequently and when we port in Cozumel the first stop and best stop is this place right here. Great views of the ocean combined with Rasta vibes. Most importantly though the food and service here is absolutely fantastic. The Margaritas are as well. It's a family owned establishment that treat you as if you're part of it. I dont know what it was exactly... but I fell inlove with this place! If you go to this island then this place is a MUST for you, rent a scooter or a beat up 1976 VW beetle and get there! We had the guacamole, conk al mojo de ajo; shrimp quesadillas; sol beer (they dont serve corona....yes!!) nothing complicated and very simple, but OH so delicious!!! Away from all the crowds of tourists is this little gem with million dollar views. I had a margarita and taco, which were good for a fast snack. Its clean and plenty of free parking with guards watching your car or bike which you have to rent from Ernesto's they are fantastic and for $25 got a moped, gas, and insurance. about 2 miles down the road on your return to the ship stop off at Restaurant Playa Bonita Bar , great food try the fried fish, the cerviche, the service was fast the drinks are great, and the prices very reasonable, dont forget to visit the Mayan ruins and stop at the tequila far and store ,just great. Read reviews about how great this place was so we decided to check it out after a few drinks down the road at Coconuts. We were very disappointed. The beach setting and the atmosphere are nice but the drinks were terrible. Everything tasted watered down except for the tequila sunrise which tasted like straight tequila. No Bueno. I got a pina colada in a coconut, (always wanted to drink out of a coconut), but it just wasn't very good. If u want tasty drinks in a nice setting close to the ocean I recommend sticking with Coconuts. read more

Great bar, great view, and great food. If you want to relax and watch the waves roll in then stop by. A lot of the bar tours stop here or it's a $20 cab ride from town. The cabs don't come down regularly so have a plan to get back. Most of the cab drivers will just stick around if you ask them to. read more
