Had an appointment with Chase this morning to get a few small pieces done. This was my first time visiting Freedom Machine. First off, let me just point out just how impressed I was with their building. Most other shops I've visited look ehh and are usually in crowded lots. Also, I love that they have a sign out front with their name on it instead of just "Tattoo". Inside the shop is clean and open. I love that they have tattoo books for you to browse through as well as their art displayed on the wall. Chase was meticulous with detail and took his time doing each one of my pieces. He's also very nice and I felt very welcomed upon being greeted by him and the other artist there. I will definitely be going back for more! read more

So I contacted Freedom Machine through Yelp after seeing some awesome reviews on here, FB and google. They were quick to get back with me to help me schedule an appointment and actually had me stop in and meet one of the artists to talk about what I was looking for. I was fortunate enough to meet Mingo who talked to me about three upcoming tattoos I wanted, the price and scheduling. First off I want to comment on how professional and friendly the staff that contacted me and Mingo were. I felt immediately at ease and knew this was where I wanted to get my tattoo. All of my tattoos I wanted were very "nerdy" in my head so I was nervous going into it but Mingo made me feel completely at ease and confident with what I had chosen. Even after we had scheduled the initial appointment - we conversed a few times by email about placement, what they would look like, etc and Mingo was always quick to respond and incredibly helpful! I got my first tattoo on Saturday (which is the smaller star tattoo from my pictures). The professional of the staff when arrived was top notch. The person that greeted me let me know what was going on with Mingo's schedule and what I could expect and even helped start the process and forms for me. She was incredibly sweet! Due to some scheduling conflicts things ran a little behind but the staff checked in with me and made myself and my friend feel incredibly comfortable and our wait was not long at all. My first tattoo Mingo took the time to ensure I had exactly the right color I wanted for my star. The tattoo was meant to represent the birthmark of multiple characters in one of my favorite shows. I didn't want just a normal red or purple. He took the time to mix colors and ensure it was the PERFECT shade which. He also had reviewed my images to ensure we had perfect placement as well. Even tho it was just a "simple star" the amount of effort and work he put into it was still meaningful to me. I was also impressed with how quickly (and almost nearly painlessly) he finished it. I have had a similar size tattoo done previously when I still lived in NC that took almost double the time he took. I am so pleased with it When I went back Monday for my second tattoo (the three fruits) which was a bit more intricate and colorful. I was so excited when I got there to see how perfectly the stencil looked. He took extra care to ensure the perfect placement - ensuring my input mattered while talking me thru what may or may not look the best. Once again the speed and relative painlessness that Mingo worked impressed me so much. He took so much care to get the exact colors and design and order I wanted the fruits in. It was a meaningful tattoo for me as it was a design that my teen helped pick out based off our blended family and one of nerdy hobbies. I felt that Mingo truly respected that esp when he worked on the shading of one of the fruits. The color on it (and the others) are absolutely incredible) I can't wait to schedule my third (and probably even more after that) with Mingo at Freedom Machine. He is an incredible artist and incredibly talented person. And to top it off the shop itself has incredibly professional and friendly staff and it's a beautiful and incredibly clean location. Getting your first tattoo should be a right of passage that comes when you are ready to receive it. I had always taken a point of pride that I had no tattoos, and that I just couldn't think of anything I would want permanently attached to my body. After years of looking at ink art, and researching artist that live in my area, I settled on Freedom Machine as my first experience. I walked into the shop in mid September, and after talking to David Parker about my ideas for a first Tattoo, and what I wanted it to convey, David took about 20 minutes and drew up something that later would become my first Ink. My first indication that this was a good fit, was his willingness to listen to my ideas and his reassurance of my first Tat fears. The second indication that I choose correctly was the fact that David was booked for the next month. We set a date for October 25th. a month later. When I arrived on the 25th, David was ready and waiting for me, he had his station all set up for our session, he touched up the drawing he made for me, and after taking some measurements, he transferred the drawing to a form that would imprint it on my arm. The nerves built up for a sec, and after the first line, I was ready, and for the next two hours, David was gentle with the needle, and responsive to my pain when I indicated it. Amazing first session and amazing artist. The other guys in the shop that day, Ryan and Mike, were all supportive and it was cool seeing how they all interact naturally around clients as they gave other people tattoos. At the end of the first two hour session, I had a great looking outline, some shading and a sore arm. After giving me some care instructions, we set out a date for touch ups and color, and again we had to schedule a month out, since David is fully booked all the time. Cant wait for the final look. I went back the day after Thanksgiving to have some color add to the Tattoo. David Parker worked for another hour adding colors to the already beautiful outline he did the last time. Still have one more sessions to finish this bad boy and I am already planning my next Ink. I decided to post this before the Tattoo is finished. I will be going back on a few days after Xmas. Ryan is professional, shows up on time, has good clean work and is an all around good guy. He has now tattooed over 10 of my coworkers and many,many of my friends and even family. Let me start by saying: I'm a very short, very round, nearly-40yr old woman who has been a stay-at-home mom for over 18 years and I have Fibromyalgia (I feel way more pain than the average joe). I spent over three years searching for a tattoo shop where I wasn't looked at like an alien, treated like a leper (I wish I were exaggerating), out right ignored, or told they wouldn't work with me because of my illness...it didn't help that I was a total tattoo virgin. I'd been into nearly every tattoo shop north of the river that wasn't actually on 6th St. the day I walked into Freedom Machine. And, truth be told, I wasn't very hopeful. The warmth with which I was greeted completely took me my surprise. I tentatively explained what I was looking for: a whole back piece. Again, the girl I was talking to surprised me with actual interest. She gave me the obligatory books to look through, and I was very pleasantly surprised a third time: the art done in this shop is amazing! I set up a time to meet with Ryan Dodson, after being deeply impressed by his work. Then I went home and did my homework about the shop and about Ryan, everything I learned gave me hope that I'd finally found someone who could do the work I wanted done so badly. I've been working with Ryan for nearly a year now, he's fun, funny, remarkably talented, totally approachable with even the dumbest questions, and, best of all for me, has a very light hand. He's been willing to work with me around my hectic schedule, and amazingly understanding and patient about my pain levels. He's introduced ideas I love and we're incorporating into my full back piece, and he's suggested things I wasn't into without trying to dictate to me and without that horrible ego thing that seems to run rampant in some shops. I now have two tattoos, a very feminine vine-like tattoo on the side of my breast and a gorgeous Mockingbird on the top left quarter of my back (it's a segment of the full back piece). Both of which have fully healed remarkably quickly. I can't recommend Freedom Machine highly enough; the atmosphere is casual and fun, the people are the definition of cool, and the art that comes out of there is beautiful! read more

Trying to find a tattoo parlor in a new state is like trying to find decent Chinese food in a new state; choose wrong and your skin or stomach could be in all sorts of trouble. Having said that, if you need a tattoo and you are located in the state of Texas, Freedom Machine is the place to go! Was referred to Dave Parker by a friend who had work done by him that I liked. I gave him a call and sent an email with some photos of the tattoo I already had on my inner arm and what I wanted to add to it, Dave was real cool about everything and, after picking a date/time that I would come in, he said he would look at what I sent and "do his homework". When I got to the shop after driving from Dallas, it was apparent that Dave had indeed done his homework...and aced the design for the frame to go around the word I already had on my inner right bicep! Living up to the other reviews, his sketch was way cooler than what I had suggested and thought up so we went with that. Getting tattooed in a shop that somewhat resembles a westen saloon from the outside while listening to "Rumble"-by Link Wray was an awesome experience. Dave did a eggcellent job and the tattoo looks great. Working with Dave was great from start to finish and I will definitely be coming back to Freedom Machine and referencing them in the future. My wife and I went there in May of 2018. We went to get our first tattoos together and after much researching and reading reviews, we settle on Freedom Machine. We went for a consolation and we were quoted an approximate amount for our matching tattoos; something simple...Roman numerals of our anniversary date. We got our tattoos (the numbers were not even an inch tall) in less than 45mins for both of us. When we were charged $200 each we were shocked to hear it was more than we were quoted, but we still paid. I was more so shocked when I learned from talking to many other tattoo artists and enthusiasts that we paid $200 for a $30-$50 amount of work! My advice, if you're new to getting a tattoo, don't go here. If you do go, make sure you get a price locked in before you get your work done or you will get ripped off like we did! Other than that, this place is for regulars that they know or people who are experienced in tattoos. I want another tattoo, but knowing what I know now, I'm very apprehensive and I surely will not return to Freedom Machine.
