We do not currently have a dog, but we both love dogs and enjoy petting them and watching them play. The parking lot was full so we parked across the street where some other cars were parked. Its quite a small parking lot. There is a very nice double gate so that dogs cannot escape easily. We got to pet a few dogs, but they were mostly running around and playing which is why they were there! We followed a path around the lake and were impressed with the size of the park. A few dogs were playing in the water as well. We saw some neighbors and stopped to chat a bit. Other people were getting to know each other because their dogs were playing together. What a great way for neighbors and their dogs to connect with each other! We really enjoyed ourselves and will return soon for sure.

Each site is level and gravel. There is not any privacy between sites but they are not stacked on top of each other either. There is a fire pit, a picnic table, a grill and a lantern hook at each site. There are only 3 campsites on Lake Laura Walker but all of the other campsites have a view of it. There is one bathhouse for the campground and I did not go in it so I don't know how clean it is. The rest of the park is well maintained so I imagine the bathhouse would be too. The park offers a visitor center with a gift shop and ice cream and boiled peanuts for sale. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable about the area. The park is about 20 mins from Waycross should you need to shop or grab a bite to eat. There are two playgrounds, a fitness area, many pavilions and picnic areas. There is also an area for Sunday Church service which starts at 9:30 am. They also offer cabins and cottages for rent and there are separate campgrounds for pioneer and group camping. They have a VERY large dog park! One side for small dogs and the other for large dogs. Each side offers a bench and a watering station. This dog park added an extra star to my overall rating! We enjoyed our stay here and were happy to find out we were only about 8 miles from the Okefenokee Swamp Park which is also highly recommended!

That being said, we went for the holiday celebrations, and well, this was packed more than a can of sardines. We were only there the last hour of the festivities, but it felt like an eternity. Lines, lines everywhere, with lots of disorganization as there were minimal lights and a lot of staff that were directing people to park in places further when there was parking up front. Ugh. Definitely a place to come early for a special day because it's hard to get a decent spot otherwise. The lines, lines everywhere continued everywhere honestly. The food trucks, the finding a good spot, the entering and leaving the park. Sigh. At least the fireworks were pretty. Will have to return on a regular day to see if I can actually enjoy this park rather than just think of all the stress it brought us.

New park discovery of a Tallahasee gem for running and hiking …read more This 255-acre park with 3 1 mile mountain bike trail was named in 1977 after a Leon High coach (1944 to 1946) Thomas Irwin Brown .Tom Brown was also a Babe Ruth League coach for 20 years and a Leon County Commisioner for 14 years. His love of sports was the blueprint for establishing these beautiful and well-kept trails and park. I love to find new places to run and hike while traveling and was surprised at how many baseball, softball fields, and tennis / pickle board courts this park offers. You can hear the peck of woodpeckers on trees and many different types of birds such as cardinals and swallow tailed kite as you hike on their asphalt paths or dirt trails. The pond water is filled with blue-green algae…read more If you, your child or your pet got sick after being near this pond, per the FL Dept of Health report it to Florida Poison Control Center 1-800-222-1222. Blue-green algae means it likely is TOXIC algae that sicken your dog within minutes and kill within hours. If the fountain is running, then the toxins are being disbursed into the air and you breathe it in and it can make you very sick - seberity of signs and symptoms depend on the type and amount of cyanobacteria present. You cannot tell 100% if it's toxic by look or smell, only by water testing. Keep pets and children away until you know if it's toxic. She seemed irritated that we were paying with a debit card, and when her card machine was slow, she got frustrated and just let us in for free. We went left behind the booth down a back road which lead to the lake. Very nice area with a small dock. Didn't catch any fish though. Overall, we would still come again.

And the small dog park would make a very nice large dog park in most cities. The large dog park it's actually a lot bigger than it looks from the entrance. It unfolds in the back and opens up into a very nice big area for your dogs to run amongst the trees. Did I mention there are a multitude of old groceries as well as places to sit and benches and picnic tables. There are multiple poop bag dispensers as well as trash cans placed all around the park. Dual gated entry areas for both the large and the small dog park. The only two questionable items are they have a place where the fence makes a v in the back which can sometimes trap dogs that are trying to escape being attacked and the only water is actually outside the delegated entry? Oh and you have to park about a half a block away.
