This shop is INCREDIBLE! Each time I've been in the shop, the staff has been amazing, educated, and will answer any question. They hooked me up with awesome deals and made sure I got the best equipment for my specific set up. I'm a newer skater, and I was always afraid and intimidated by real skate shops. "Located in the heart of Madison and operated by active skaters." Great local skate shop on State Street. My review is primary for their roller derby gear and supplies. Freedom has a decent selection of derby gear, including pads, helmets, wheels, bearings, skates, laces, and tools. I wish they offered a larger variety of gear and accessories in the store, but they're always willing to order things. Super friendly and helpful staff who are knowledgeable and skate themselves (like Mouse!). read more

The new Freedom shop has all the goodies a skateboarder could ever want or need. The house decks are solid and the brands they offer are made by skate companies that are committed to skateboarding for the long haul. I've been going to the shop since it was at its old location (upstairs paired with Knuckleheads) and have always gotten great advice, good products, and excellent service. The Freedom folks are down for life and are committed to pushing skateboarding to the next level. Austin and Dnut RIP!!! If you're into Roller Derby or you're looking to get into the sport, "Mouse" can set you up with quality gear. She has been around since the very beginnings of the Mad Rollin Dolls and is truly a local treasure. Schedules, event flyers, and tickets for derby are available at the counter....if you haven't made a bout, you're blowing it! Support your local shop! read more

My son and I had an excellent experience today at Freedom Skate Shop. Jeffrey was super knowledgeable and helpful setting my son up with his first skateboard and answering questions/offering advice and information to a novice rider and a mom who knows nothing about the sport. Jeffrey was patient with us and multi-tasked several customer service interactions while we were there and was very welcoming and friendly to everyone who came in. They have a really nice selection of decks, wheels, shoes, helmets etc. and anything else you might need/want for skateboarding. I highly recommend supporting this local business. 100% would recommend to people who are looking to get into skating or regular skaters. I came in with no skate knowledge and was looking to build a board, and the staff not only helped me find the parts for my budget but also guided me through the process of building the whole thing. Several skaters better than myself came in and helped themself to grip tape and other parts. It's very much a "family" of people as cheesey as that sounds. Great first experience with skating. Since the new pro skateboard manager Shawn has taken over at Zumiez it's the only place my son and I go, we spend a lot of money on boards, wheels, trucks, bushings, so forth. I make custom boards, bushings and even rails and other hardware, so take that into account here. Shawn has provided not only friendly customer service, making us all feel like family when we walk in each and every time, but true insight on the parts we buy, how they will ride, and tips on skating including the shoes we have bought. This man is a true treasure, and the best manager I've seen in any of the two Zumiez in town since 2008! Some of the managers in the past where very unwelcoming, I've since had my faith restored in this shop and it's now my favorite!

When I returned home I checked my bank account online. The store had charged my credit card $118.50 TWICE.. for ONE pair of shoes. When I called the store to complain the person I spoke to was rude and told me they would not correct their mistake unless I returned to the store with my receipt - in person. This is no way to treat a paying customer. I do not live nearby the store. What a rip-off. I had no choice but to contact my bank and tell them what the store did to me. My bank has given me provisional credit while they investigate the matter. I would not recommend this store to ANYBODY.

This is more of a review of Marmot than of Fontana Sports. I bought my first Marmot down jacket…read morehere, and it lasted almost twenty years before the zipper broke. It kept me so warm and toasty in the brutal upper Midwest winters. I discovered the Marmot brand here in the 1990s. Back in the 1990s, Patagonia was not considered as "technical" and as bougie as Marmot and The North Face. Arcteryx either didn't exist or was an obscure brand almost thirty years ago. Now, Patagonia and Arcteryx are off-the-charts insanely priced. Marmot and The North Face are considered "value" brands. In any case, I still buy Marmot; it's better quality and far better value than Patagonia because: 1. Higher down fill power and 2. Higher down fill weight I recently bought a 700-fill down parka from Marmot with 220 grams of down for far less money than a 600-fill down parka with 150 grams of down from Patagonia. I was cold in the Patagonia parka, and it was horribly expensive. I had to return. I also bought coats from Eddie Bauer and from L.L. Bean. Nowhere nearly as warm as Marmot. The Marmot down parka that I recently bought is called the Montreaux Coat, and I've yet to find a warmer coat at such a great price point. It hits my knee, although it's supposed to hit my calf, so that's a bit misleading on their website. It's closer to parka length than coat length. I like that when the zipper broke after almost twenty years of owning my first Marmot down jacket, I called Marmot's Customer Service, they sent me a shipping label, and they said that they would gladly repair the zipper for me, for free. When they couldn't repair the zipper, they just sent me a new Marmot down jacket. So, I wore that complimentary replacement jacket for another ten years before finally buying the Montreaux coat this year almost thirty years after buying my first Marmot down jacket from Fontana Sports.

Out of a few pool companies I had in mind I decided to rely on Patio Pleasures because they were local and had good reviews. I'm glad I did. To get familiarized with managing a pool we scheduled a pool opening and training session so that we could get some experience. When the appointment rolled around the person they sent completely answered any questions I had. At the same time he did not do any of the product pushing that I expected to occur. Instead the treatment I got was exceedingly fair, with him even lowering the cost of the service for things he didn't have to do since we had managed it beforehand. All in all, an excellent experience. The same could be said for my experience in the store itself. The employees there were more than willing to answer my novice pool owner questions and made reasonable recommendations. I was also pleased to discover that they offered free water tests which let you know what needs to go into the water to balance the levels. I'm not sure if that's universal to stores in the pool industry but it's definitely nice to have here.

The day they came to install there were 2 employees-2! They didn't have the equipment to dig the pool, thank goodness we had a guy doing work for us elsewhere that could help with the dig. I thought they would be billed for the work but we were! & not even offered a discount for this or the water we had to supply. Beware they are not straight shooters once the contract is signed!

I enjoy Freedom because as a longtime skateboarder and as a full time parent shop provides professional products, positive vibes, demolition of gender barriers, community involvement and empowering local youth in a foward direction. The staff is nothing but professional, knowledgeable quite friendly. Freedom is a shop that makes sk8ing fun for all , no matter age or character .Unlike a lot of SK8 shops I feel like freedom treats my 8 year old skateboarder son with the same level of coolness as any sixteen year old. .With much of sk8ing being male dominated ,Freedom's anti-mainstream approach continuing support of female skaters is a breath of fresh air. My skateboarding daughter gets the same level of encouragement as my skateboarding son when dealing with a sales associate at Freedom's a customer I am really impressed with the active role the shop plays in the community .At events such as the Wille st. fair ,boom box the wasteland, and Natl. Sk8 Day.I like the many products such as Freedom team decks that are made in the USA.I see the staff take an active role in the positive mentor-ship of adolescents in the community. Freedom Skate Shop in Madison, WI suffers from the "support your local shop, while I act elite, and be a d*%k mentality. I don't know what their deal is. Austin's attitude is holier than thou, and that hippie guy with the beard is not much better - quit getting stoned before work dude, and open when the hours state you will be open! Have spent numerous occasions waiting for the hippie guy to show up... I am done going to this shop. I used to recommend it, but after sending a few friends here, that ended up complaining to me about their attitude (one of them a mom shopping for her kid), I am done recommending it, and done going there myself. Go to Alumni, at least they are not pompous, and they know how to keep hours. Freedom, you are not gods gift to skateboarding, help your customers without attitude, grow some humility, and show up for work on time. I have been skating for over a decade, and this is the worst shop attitude that I have ever encountered. read more

The skateboard camp they offer in the summer was fantastic. The counselors were kind, supportive, and welcoming. The environment was positive, and it helped build confidence and a real excitement for skateboarding. The camp was also very well organized. Communication was clear and consistent, and everything ran smoothly from start to finish. It's clear that the team puts a lot of thought and care into the experience. Highly recommended.
